The Colonel warns Raiden about the plans to use AI to censor the Internet.
An experiment in creative writing and AI speech synthesis, inspired by the famous "Selection for Societal Sanity" (S3) codec conversation from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

I used ElevenLabs AI for the voice synthesis. Ironically, they recently mentioned on their twitter that they have the ability to detect if a voice clip was generated with their service, and which user generated it, in order to ban users who "abuse" the service. They also just put the voice cloning feature behind a paywall for the same reason, so everything you generate is tied to your credit card info.

The scary part is that this is more than likely exactly what is going on behind the scenes. Blackmailing political dissent no longer works. Damage control measures have proven ineffective against memetic spread of politically incorrect truth. The only way to regain control over the dissemination of information and prevent any problematic organization is to remove all available and uncontrolled mediums. A neutering, if you will, of civilian legal communication technology.

The problem of terrorism did not exist before the US government invented it, justified it and then instituted mass surveillance that at that point in time was considered a "Conspiracy theory". The idea that the government was tracking and spying on all of its citizens in year 2001 was the equivalent of believing in flat earth theories. Today it is a reality accepted by all, a reality one cannot even fight back against anymore. The neural networks and ai algorithms that they end up developing are now being used to best manufacture targeted advertising at you as a person, based on your stolen personal data. Later it will be used to control what you can and cannot say or do.

And clearly this parody of Ai voices, using the iconic Ai Colonel codec call is part of those memes. MGS is a "portmanteau" of what Kojima describes as "Meme Gene and Scene". This very parody is proof of what Kojima is talking about. Seriously people never read context.

This is exactly what Kojima was trying to communicate in the dialogue of the original game. But there was no mainstream analogy to make it clear at the time. AI will censor the internet completely, it already happens to an extent but this is just beginning, what ever is against the official narrative brought to you by the powers that be will be considered misinformation and probably terrorism. Just look at the news today is always a one sided story but it will get real when objecting becomes a crime.

I think the scariest part is the fact that most people will go "then just don't interact with internet" but then you bring up "Do you think your bank is willing to risk doing business with an artificial human instead of a real one" There will be no choice, there will be no ability to resist because once the option is there, any service can just pop the requirement in their ToS. When I brought up ai voices the first thing somebody said in the room was "they need to do something about that" immediately thought of this video. Already, people are calling for government to create a solution for them. Then when you point out how they're already calling for government solutions, "oh but the government wouldn't do that" I just.. how.. how is it possible for people to be this trusting yet at the same time ask them "what do you think of government" and they'll give you the expected "oh I don't trust them" then ask them about policy and look at how much they trust the government.

Western governments see China and they want to replicate that level of control in the West. They tried it with Covid-19 as a convenient excuse to push digital IDs inside every business and implement contact tracing, but it failed to move beyond most major cities. Now they have the perfect excuse that won't be going anywhere any time soon.

@@djmars1983 Idk if you people are joking but that kind of shit already exists in many parts of the world right now I can NFC scan my government ID right now with my phone and use that to identify myself on government websites They just gotta roll that out to banks etc. The real hurdle here is total internet traffic surveillance on the ISP level and I doubt it will ever come to that Identifying yourself as a real person with your ID is gonna be enough for the absolute majority of websites and services

Dissenters like the Canadian truckers could have whole swathes of their digital I.D.'s restricted under the name of combatting misinformation and hate speech.

Ya know... I've been a bit concerned with how quickly AI-generated stuff has been advancing... I remember how last year when Dall-E Mini was released, and everyone was having fun with it making really scummy-looking images from various prompts... then we got AI tools that could generate almost original-looking art (minus some oddities like messed up hands or eating ramen with hands, or whatever)... and now, those issues hardly exist anymore... AI-generated speech doesn't sound mechanical anymore, and inflections are getting more natural-sounding... It's kinda scary.

But flipping papers all day, they should be happy they don't have to do that anymore and can get a real job where they create real things. The issue is not AI, but that you have to be anonymous on the internet in the first place. Make sure to work out, arm yourself, sleep, eat, live healthy. Don't let your governments run you over, the internet belongs to AI. But reality belongs to us! It's in our best interest that as large portion of us remain as dangerous as possible at all times. A strong middle class is the best protection against the tyranny of the rich and the envy of the poor.
