First ever video on the Union Pacific Brownsville Subdivision. It will be the first of many from this trip. After catching the siren test in Gonzales, I continued my drive down to the coast, eventually stopping in the Refugio, Texas area to test my luck on the Brownsville Subdivision. Lucky I was. I was treated to a stopped eastbound train in the siding in Woodsboro, with a clear signal for a westbound. I pulled in here to wait it out, and after about half an hour, down came a westbound Kansas City Southern grain train with a Canadian Pacific ES44AC on the head end and a Canadian Pacific AC4400CW on the rear.
This crossing is quite a nice one and was one of my highest priorities to film in the Refugio area. It is a 1990s Union Pacific install which retains both original Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bells! Unfortunately, the salty air by the Gulf of Mexico has not done any favors for them, and both have severely lost their original tone, gaining the "cowbell" tone instead. Despite the tone change, both bells sound relatively healthy otherwise and will hopefully stick around. Other than the bells, all the other equipment here is Western Cullen Hayes too.
