🛤 Lines: NS Sandusky District and CSX Columbus Line Subdivision

On May 24th, 2024, I began a ten-day railfanning stint across the Midwestern United States. For the first six days, I was assisting family in the Columbus, Ohio and as such was largely confined to that area. I began by examining the NS Sandusky District where it parallels the extremely lightly-used CSX Columbus Line Subdivision. It wasn't long before one of the nearby block signals dropped to red, indicating a train was lined through. After a short wait, down came my first train in Ohio, a northbound NS mixed freight with a single AC44C6M leading. I do enjoy the P5 horns these units occasionally possess.
This crossing, like many along the Sandusky District in the northern suburbs of Columbus, is quite an interesting one. It is interconnected with the CSX-owned Columbus Line Subdivision. While gated signals protect the entrance to the no-man's land between the two railroads, gateless signals are positioned between the two tracks. The lights on the inactive track remain dark while a train passes on the other.
The NS side of this crossing has a pair of Safetran signals, one gates, one gateless. It possesses a healthy Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell as well. The CSX side is substantially more modern with 2000s-era signals and LED lights. One General Signals electronic bell is present but is completely drowned out by the mechanical bell (if it is even operational).
