There are several unused freight sidings along the the South Coast (MA) Rail Project's route which is being rebuilt for commuter rail service starting in 2023. Some of these unused freight sidings along the SCR route have been revived for use by SCR Constructors who are rebuilding the freight line for commuter service. Some of these sidings had not been used for several years after the freight customers closed. These sidings include "One Tree Lumber" siding in Freetown, MA that had not been used since early 2012 when the business occupying that site shut down. Since 2012 a section of the freight spur was used for MOW and car storage but the lower track into the former lumber yard was never used. In 2020 the track saw use again for moving materials and construction equipment.
The Shell Oil Track in Fall River also started to see MOW use in 2015 and once again in 2021. It's connecting turnout was also replaced.
The Millis Industries siding on the New Bedford Line was last used in early 2013 but once again revived for construction use in 2018 or so.
The Agway Siding near Padelford St. also saw use as a storage track but the last freight customer used it decades ago.
The other Agway Siding at Myricks also saw use as a MOW track after the customer last got service in the 1980's.
In addition to reusing the freight spurs for equipment storage some of the other freight sidings are staying connected to the commuter line despite not being used. Just about all the spurs in this video will have their connecting turnout replaced and stay connected for future use if a customer decides to use rail once again.
Also not focused on in the video the former "Quad Graphics" siding in Taunton, MA is being completely rebuilt after service ended in 2016. A new business occupies the site and we'll see if they decide to use rail once again.
Correction to the Millis Industries Siding: Last used in 2013, not 2012
