In this exclusive Mickey Views News special report, Brayden brings you inside the negotiations underway in Florida on Brightline and Sunrail's Sunshine Rail Corridor through the city of Orlando. This rail will connect Miami, West Palm Beach, the Orlando International Airport, the Orange County Convention Center and Universal, Walt Disney World, Tampa, and more. Disney has stated they are no longer involved with the project, and a station is no longer planned for Walt Disney World property. Here's the thing: Disney DID NOT cancel this station, BRIGHTLINE did. Universal had something to do with it! This is Mickey Views News, your source for Disney News!

It's sad. Disney executives are so narrowly focused on the shareholders they have lost sight of the vision of what made Disney magical. Now it's about cutting costs, increasing prices, and charging for things that used to be free where they can get away with it. As long as the parks continue being full enough they will continue on this path...I fear that when the scales tip too far it will be too late and leadership will become more aggressive leading to more cost cutting that will sink the business. I think now would be a good time for a 5th gate at WDW to help spread out the crowds and allow more visitors per day... and expanding current parks to increase capacity. But I don't see that happening now.

They sell us this narrative and make a point to include that in their brand still today so I genuinely feel like this company has a duty to it’s fans and it’s brand honestly to invest in projects to address climate, traffic, and especially public transportation on and off property considering “their position(s)” as the “forward thinking company” for literally its entire life.

So Instead we were able to get season passes for our whole family of 5 for just under $1200 for Universal Studio. Universal Studio has stepped up their game from the last time that I went back in 2007. Their customer service is on par with what Disney used to be and you are able to get so so much more for what you pay for. If Disney doesn't wake up they are going to be in a world of hurt. This is a temper tantrum plain and simple. Disney is unjustifiably angry that a public transit system would have more stops in Orlando than the airport and their property. Hopefully the I-4 allignment to Tampa will allow for an infill station someday but they are acting unbelievably petty for now. Once again this is a huge win for Universal as international tourists will be able to take Brightline and/or SunRail directly to the doorstep of Epic Universe right from the airport and their Miami Beach vacations. They have a better experience for cheaper prices too. IIRC Universal hotel guests I'm very excited for their growth and hopefully in a decade or so, the hands of the free market will force Disney to fix their mistakes.

Everything is SO difficult with Disney that I’m tired before I get there. Virtual queues and no waiting in line sound like it could be nice, but what Disney has implemented instead is a limited, cumbersome, miserable logistics management program that I find I pay to make me frustrated. The fun of staying on property has been destroyed with hotels that look like they could be anywhere BUT Disney. Prices go up, quality of experience goes down. They’re destroying Epcot. Did they ever even know what their customers loved about it? Those monstrosities in the lake are hideous and not worth the soulless show. Did they understand what Illuminations was about? Not this leadership team. The first time I rode the Harry Potter ride at Universal and thought, “Wow, this is the most innovative ride I’ve ever been on - it puts Disney to shame,” it dawned on me that Disney lost its edge. They still haven’t gotten it back. Now this rail story just is another mind boggling, colossal example of lack of vision. On my last trip, Universal was front and center with their Mardi Gras parades and simple to navigate ticketing system, and Disney became the less important part of my trip for the first time ever. Disney needs leadership that thinks differently about the parks, and perhaps, maybe, understands why people who have supported it all these years love it.

It seems Disney’s interest in the project dried up when the route was changed to include the tourist corridor, thereby benefiting other companies, and not just Disney like the old route pretty much did. Disney essentially going it is us or them, while Universal was like, “how can we help?”

I've spoiled myself on what Super Nintendo World is like in Japan. The theming is superb. Nintendo fans will have that same experience as HP fans had when Diagon Alley first opened. I'm hoping we get that level in all the other lands, including the hub world and rumored classic monsters. Those could be sleeper hits.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that Universal is embracing the Brightline project and even donating their land for the station. The construction company that is doing the Brightline project is also the same company that’s working on the Epic Universe property. Disney has been working overtime at discouraging people from patronizing their parks. I’ve been noticing more and more die hard Disney fans being disrespected by the company and many long time cast members deciding they’ve had enough and quit working there. It’s a real shame. But this Brightline project is just the thing they need in Central Florida. More public transportation is needed now more than ever, especially if there are stops at the most popular places.

So Disney wanted to be the only stop for Bright Line from Orlando International Airport to Tampa and then, the Sun Rail Sunshine corridor with Universal/OCCC makes a case to the point the US Congress mandates funding and BrightLine goes "YES!" Go figure! But if you are familiar with BrightLine in Miami, their stations offers a free shuttle within 5 miles from the terminal. Disney can be covered by the same service once the line is running, so... Let's see how it goes!

Brayden, I so agree with a lot of what you presented with the Brightline project. I'm so very, very disappointed in Disney for backing out. I always looked forward to arriving in Orlando and getting on the Disney buses to finish out my journey to our magical adventure. The buses disappeared, but the promise of the Brightline train had me so excited for a new transportation venue to our magical adventure. What can I hope for next? Perhaps the return of the Disney buses? I feel Disney considers California their primary and considers Orlando as a money making place to support the California parks. I need Mickey to whip another idea as I'm not getting any younger and I want my Disney Dreams to continue for many, many more years. Why does politics always screw things up.

Here’s another important angle: the seniors and retirees and Canadian snow birds who live in South Florida are a very very large audience for WDW theme parks because they are NOT interested in crazy thrill rides and roller coasters. They love It’s A Small World at Magic Kingdom and Impressions de France at World Showcase - even Listen to the Land and Spaceship Earth. These seniors would much rather hop on a train at Miami or Boca Raton to get to WDW than ride a bus or drive a rental car. And they are around all winter long while kids are in school. These are the Disney fans that could fill Brightline trains to WDW. It’s lunacy to ignore the retirees of South Florida who love spending a day or two at WDW.

You already see vloggers spending a lot more time at Universal and less time at Disney. I think this is another poor decision on the part of Disney and you will find fewer people willing to spend the huge bucks to go to the parks. I have already lost interest in Disney movies and I'm losing all interest in the parks (I've been going since the year WDW opened and it kills me to think of never going again but honestly they are getting rid of everything that interests me and I feel like they don't care about me, only my money) and I cancelled 2 trips already and am thinking about cancelling a third trip and never going back. I no longer feel like Disney represents me, and this is coming from a lifelong Disney fanatic. I grew up with the original Mickey Mouse Club and movies.

I don't think that is the main reason vloggers going to Universal or other parks. They just need to switch things up a bit sometimes so viewers won't get tired of watching the same thing. Most of them are not Disney but theme park vloggers so of course they would go. I mean you always see them on every party, opening day and stuff so it's not like they can't afford.

I am more interested in Universal than Disney now. The past couple visits to Disney have not been what it used to be and I am getting so much less for my money, and worse, much less for much more money. I could handle the price hikes if they didn't keep taking things away so I am ready to start spending more time at Universal. I still like being at Disney, especially EPCOT and Animal Kingdom, but I think I will spend my 10 days in Orlando much differently now.
