Before you could hear this audio transition between like 10 mph to 11 mph and now it's completely smooth and continuous with no audio variations in the chuff. Definitely impressive, great work by the devs!

the chuffs change really different when struggling up hill and the reverser settings there is wear and tear on your wagons and passenger cars and special repair tracks and teams of repair men it changes colour as where and tear happens

I think they meant the sound will be different between two dissimilar doubleheaded engines because they’ll have different RPM with varying driver sizes, whereas the sounds were just synced to the speed after 11mph before.

Not very familiar with US locomotive sounds - but I think you're correct, it needs the clank of the coupling rods, maybe also the tic-tac of the valve gear.

This is probably one of the best updates I’ve seen for this yet! I would love to see them add wheelslip which I was trying out my smaller engine not sure if it was just me or if they added it but I put it wide open and it slipped! Knocked the regulator down to about 60% and it caught traction and the chuffs slowed back down! When I did this I almost cried in joy 😅

Another thing to note about the map. You can set switches from the map now so you don't need to teleport somewhere to throw a switch if you don't want to.

The sounds are fantastic! I cant wait to get in the game and try everything else out too!

The new sounds are miles better than they used to be, but they still feel muffled especially on the bigger engines. When those things are working that exhaust should almost be deafening.

Wow that’s an amazing improvement even the throttle bar on the bottom left side was upgraded hopefully basic controls are still the same I look forward to hearing the chuffs that are now perfectly synchronized with the locomotive that makes it a lot more realistic

A LOT of minor details to consider in this update!! Coal- and repair-parts-resupply now takes an additional day to refill and return to your interchange. Max loans are affected by equipment degradation, so as you use your wagons and engines, max loan goes down over time.

I started the game up early on yesterday and heard the new chuffs and thought it might have been a mod I installed, but it wasn’t like that the day before and I hadn’t added any new mods since then. Checked the steam page, and there wasn’t a new update log posted. Guess I was just accidentally super early.

With the new repair and wear features, please yall do a regular save. I saved a few minutes before derailing my pax train because I missed a signal.

In looking at the notes about wear, I think they may have that set a bit too aggressively... If I remember right I think they said you should repair it after every 1000 miles of normal operation. I'm thinking that should be closer to 10,000 miles. This road is what, 65 or so miles one way? So if you go end to end, you have to overhaul your engine every 10 days? I believe full scale was about every month they'd come in for 'an oil change' and then every 3-6 months they'd be in for major repair. Granted this is a game, but I can see repair getting out of hand and overbearing real quick to the point you need to double your motive power so you have second string to put in while your primary set is in the shop... and with the money being made by freight and passenger service, it isn't enough to make that math add up.

Now if they can fix the diesel sounds……

Just need to add wheelslip, sanding, hot boxes, and firebox management.

I hope they add if they haven’t already but passenger observation car.. which the tail lamp worked.. and also some doors are glitched closed.

i found the sound changes based on driver size more than anything else, the Berkshire has a much slower chuff at the same speed then my 0-8-0.

I am a little surprised that there is no AI update in this. The first video of the AI they were working on was shown last Christmas and it looked pretty good. I guess they are having trouble fleshing it out and it's still not performing the way they want.

I hope some day we get more natural-looking environment. It's all just sameish grass and trees right now. For example I think the forests should have more mid-sized foliage around them so they don't look like parks.

Its overall OK. I still feel like physically filling in the game should be a bigger focus, given the replayability really isn't there. You unlock everything and, what? There's no scenery of note, the industries are bare or nonexistent, no towns, the entire thing just feels really really empty. I honestly figured 3rd party guys would get to the sounds first, lowkey surprised they hadn't. The ability to throw switches from the map are arguably the most useful of this update.
