Well known veteran railway photographer Phil Waterfield built Malham as a permanent layout for his own enjoyment and Corwenna for exhibition purposes. A description of each is included in this video but briefly, Malham is an imaginary Pennine branch as might have been built by the Midland Railway. Corwenna could hardly be based on a more distant line…in Cornwall. This model was inspired by the Wenfordbridge Branch which served the china clay industry in the region.
Full details of the Malham layout may be found in the September 2017 issue of BRM (British Railway Modelling) whilst the Corwenna layout featured in the August 2017 issue of BRM.

A really enjoyable profile of two excellent layouts, thanks Alan. A very refreshing change to see a variety of operations and workings at the same time as the fascinating static details, instead of just a series of processions around a loop. The explanatory text adds a great deal of interest and the background music rounds it off. Kind regards, Bob.

Quite delightful! There's definitely a real 'S&C' feel to the scene with the 8F at 1:15. Nice use of the backdrop to give a feelof rather ominous skies brooding.

This is what I call excellent modelling possibly the best layout I've ever seen .Only pendon betters this. This layout should be the benchmark for other's to aspire to .The detail on this layout is amazing. Well done to all involved and thank you for your video

For the next video, can you leave the trains out and do a tour of all the scenery. The layouts look fantastic, but it's not possible to see all the scenery detail when the focus is just on the trains. The scenery is, after all, what modellers spend most of their build time on!

Of the two, I prefer Malham, but only slightly! It is a very pleasant change to see shunting operations rather than tail-chasing. I like the representation of Malham cove in the backscene, but I have a little query - Where's the Pennine bus, out from Skipton? Oh, of course! The train service is so good, there's no need for the bus. Silly me!

Today I watched this video again and compared it to the other one version of Malham at YT, too. What a difference! I clearly prefer the version above. A great merit to Parsound's excellent camera work generating this special 'Pendon Museum mood'. He emphasizes skillfully details without losing the overall view. Last but not least sound only consists of unobtrusive music, e.g. Satie's Gymnopédie 1, which underlines the mediative mood.

Just minor observation, Malham appeared in the Sept 2017 mag not Oct. The beauty of Malham is it's basic simplicity, any modeller can achieve this with just a little effort and skill without breaking the bank. Not a classical music buff so can someone id the various pieces?
@Parsound

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I have made the amendments. The background music is: Morning Mood - Grieg E Minor Prelude - Chopin Gymnopedie - Satie C Major Prelude - Bach Allemande - Wahneta Meixsell Sicilian Breeze Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven All are available from the KZfaq Audio Library.

Music may be 'good', BUT totally inappropriate for a model rail layout -fortunately switchable. Poor video handling - high angle longshot's, aerial views - when were railways ever seen from the air? - Definitely a Video Op vacancy for 'model ground level input'. Poor 'colour film'! Frankly on this 'pretty' awful sample, little hope - nothing wrong with the layouts

Wow, did you ever miss the point! This is a symphonic video designed as "slow TV" and mesmering viewing. The colour is atmospheric, as is the music and the camera shots are designed to create a rich, visual experience. It is a peaceful, relaxing piece of visual and aural delight. Of course we all know that, in reality, there would be lots of noise and dirt - but that is not what the author of the video is trying to achieve here. Rather, it is a nostalgic dream world - and wonderful to watch.
