I love old videos from the BR days/early privatisation days. Thank you for uploading this.

I used to drive DMU's back in the 80s and had quite a few SPAD's happen to me. Ended up getting my jotters. Still I can get away with drinking during the day now!

i assume these were scrapped once TPWS came

No they actually haven't but hardly any are installed nowadays. SPAD indicators do have the advantage of warning trains that are making conflicting movement to the SPAD train as shown in the co-acting SPAD indicators section, something which TPWS cannot do

@@AutoUnder A lot of this was filmed at Shipley Station where the SPAD indicator is still in use today 2021. I noticed when Flying Scotsman came there recently and passed the signal showing a proceed aspect and unlit SPAD indicator before coming to a stand to collect passengers in the rear few coaches the SPAD indicator operated. I am not sure why that happens.

@@cedarcam Probably because of the number of coaches that the Flying Scotsman pulls is more than a standard passenger train. Interesting to know that SPAD indicator is still in use but I imagine that signal is TPWS protected as well

@@AutoUnder I think that must be it yes I will try and find out for sure. Also it has TPWS as the signal protects a junction and the grids in the platform can be seen on a video I have. it also has a TSS fitted just after the AWS after the stop signal kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbuHdqSip6u1ink.html
