I'm fishing a small mountain stream in Pennsylvania during early spring. I catch some bigger Rainbow trout along with some smaller native brook trout. The Wild Leeks, AKA "Ramps" are up this time of year and are easy to find, so I gather some from a nearby hillside where they are growing near the stream. They have a strong onion/garlic flavor that pairs well with trout. I also tossed in some small morel mushrooms that I found as well for a great spring time meal in the Appalachian Mountains

Perfect meal. There is nothing like fresh trout cooked for supper. Only difference is that I use lemon pepper inside the cavity. Still put garlic salt and pepper on the skin side while cooking in butter. Heavenly! Thanks for the video.

Thanks for sharing. One time I hiked to Fuller Lake in Colorado to free dive and explore the mountain. After swimming in the lake for awhile, then catching some brown trout, a storm rolled over the mountain tops with lightning and thunder. So, I quickly threw my fish in a wet bag, grabbed my hiking pack and headed down the mountain as fast as possible to avoid getting hit by lightning. I remember walking for over an hour in my wetsuit and neoprene booties all the way back to camp at sub alpine level. My group decided to leave the mountain right then because it was forecasted to continue raining the rest of the week. So, long story long I never got to cook my trout. By the time we got back into Silverton I forgot about the fish and they spoiled. I was just visiting Colorado and we dont have trout in Texas so I never got around to learning the best way to cook them to avoid the bones. I'll try to remember your simple tips!

That is a meal fit for a king!! You have just described alot of my childhood. Growing up my dad and I would trout fish and dig ramps in the Southern Appalachians of WNC and would enjoy the same meal with the exception of being coated in flour, salt and pepper. We would use our fly rods but use a normal hook and niblet corn for bait!! We also would fish upstream so the trout couldn't see us, by throwing our line upstream and letting it drift down to them. Trout are very wary and have excellent vision. Thx for the memories!!

I’m down here in NC and my mouth is just watering looking at all that PA goodness. I can smell it cooking from here. This video reminds me of a fishing trip I took in PA once. Someone fell in the woods hiking behind me and it sounded like cans getting crushed - it was bizarre - but anyway, I caught rainbow trout that trip. Good times in the PA wilds.

What a chill video... Only thing I'm gonna say is that you probably better render and upload videos in 1440p even if you're filming in 1080p, because KZfaq will give a 1440p video more bitrate, so it won't be so crushed when we look at rivers and other moving objects, that's it :)

Sorry if you've already covered this in the past but do you have a preferred method of humanely dispatching the fish before you start preparing it for cooking? That's always been my biggest bugaboo about fishing with the intent to keep and eat what I've caught - I was SLIGHTLY traumatized as a kid when the one and only time I caught a fish, the greedy bugger inhaled the entire hook and punctured its stomach so my poor mother had to run all the way back to our campsite with the fish to figure out how to euthanize it (she had to make do with a regular claw hammer and the process was NOT speedy since we were all panicking, so I guess we were both a little traumatized that day XD). I had a rule that I wouldn't go anywhere near a fishing pole again until I knew enough about what to do AFTER hooking the fish to avoid something like that happening again but it doesn't seem to be something that gets addressed too often - probably because you can't exactly show yourself offing a fish on KZfaq, to be fair.
