From across the pond, I post this to let everyone know that while most of America forgot Big Country after their eponymous hit, some of us followed them through the years. Steeltown is one of my top 10 albums ever. Thank you, Big Country, and God rest your soul, Stuart.

It's a shame they didn't get the attention they deserved in the States. What a tremendous band! I never knew how great they were before I found them on KZfaq. I know in Europe and great Britain they were recognized for just how great they were!

I have been there that night in the Grugahalle in Essen/Germany. This was the last of the famous "Rockpalast" TV festivals, in these days broadcasted Europe wide. Stuart and the band blew me away. I knew them before, but hearing and seeing them perform live was so... bigger than life. R.I.P Stuart

Man,how i love this song,!every bit of it. They were all at their best, Stuart's voice, the guits (think Bruce really likes this one), great Mark's drums and lovely bass. I can't help it,but this song alway's stay deep in my heart; beautiful!

If I hold my hand to you Though you never asked me to You will know it’s time for the rains to come And you must help me through If you feel the fear on me That I know the eye can’t see It comes with the sadness that the autumn brings So we know what has to be In the rain dance, I cool it all down It is the year to come, oh when this one’s run We are not dust we are not stone Just as the wild seed is sown No one knows how we bring it home We only take as we have grown When you put your arms on me Are they meant to set me free Or hold me like his master’s voice And put the spell on me I only have these hands I only have the land I fear you like the frost that the spring can bring Or the fire of a cattle brand In the rain dance, I cool it all down It is the year to come, oh when this one’s run In the rain dance, I cool it all down It is the year to come, oh when this one’s run We are not dust we are not stone Just as the wild seed is sown No one knows how we bring it home We only take as we have grown If I hold my hands to you Though you never asked me to You will know it’s time for the rains to come And you must help me through When we take all this to town And I buy the wedding gown We will find the newborn year As the winter crashes down In the rain dance, I cool it all down It is the year to come, oh when this one’s run In the rain dance, I cool it all down It is the year to come, oh when this one’s run

I learned to play the elec guitar because of Stuart in 1983...thanks...what a drum intro. This went out live on BBC radio at the time, I remember the girlfriend well! The mixing of the music is all drums and guitars which to this day is how they should be. Mark on drums is on the tour to this day.....Just Brilliant. I miss Stuart though, never had the recognition he deserved. Check out the John Peel BBC early sessions of 1000 stars and tracks of the Crossing. Really important music. Cheers...

After listening to the song "Big Country" a year or so ago, I knew this band was great and better than their one-hit-wonder status. Songs like this more than confirm my assumption: incredible musicianship, brilliant songwriting, and extremely catchy. I also got into the Proclaimers the same way after hearing "I'm Gonna Be". I love discovering great music! :D
