A bit of advice from someone 2 years in, find a new addiction.. unlike other drugs alcohol is too prominent and normalized in our society to avoid so find something less harmful to get addicted to. For some people it’s weed for others it’s nicotine, caffeine, exercise. Find a new addiction.

I've seen Rogan have guests on who worked for years on a book, and rogan didnt read a single page. And not only that, he immediately demands answers that come at the end of the book. I agree that you can tell Theo has put a good effort into trying to see what page Rainn is on right now in his career. Another comparison that comes to mind is tom segura having Quentin Tarantino on to speak about his new book. He didnt read a single page and barely even broached the subject of the book. He only had questions about his films. It would be like Theo having Rainn on and only talking about the office.
@mikejames7684
@mikejames7684 Жыл бұрын
@@codirennke1109 I like Theo, he's entertaining, but I just can't get behind the idea that he's some profound interviewer. These episodes are 99% comedy in my opinion. For example, the John Mulaney episode was okay, but Theo didn't seem to know anything about him besides the fact that he was a former addict. At times it felt forced and awkward in my opinion. Also, claiming to have read something doesn't mean he actually did. In fact, I think the only specific question he even asked about the book was literally on page 1. Rainn called him out on it.

@@mikejames7684 he's not a profound interviewer. The only argument I'm making is that he seemed to have genuinely put an effort into prepping for this interview. I love theo. I love segura. And I like rogan lol. I'm not saying that theo doesnt have some worse interviews or that segura doesnt have some amazing interviews. The only thing controversial I might be saying is that rogan is over rated as an interviewer. And a comedian. 😬 but that's off topic.

I love Rainn. The philosophy of boredom is one that I love talking about. Being a baby millennial, growing up without a phone, terrible dial-up, land-line phone, and pagers. I spent more time outside, drawing, reading, and running down the street to bang on my friends door. When I didn't, I usually just sat in my room playing with toys, or just being bored in general. But with the introduction of the internet readily at our finger tips....I have so much at my leisure to stave off boredom so when I am bored, it brings anxiety when it never did. Its sad. I've done so much to just...be bored. Sit there and just be. I wonder if my adhd kind of makes it harder to just sit and be bored with my mind, but I don't think so, maybe a little, but with social media and the dependency of it makes it hard to put the phone down. The Social Dilemma is my favorite documentary and interesting, highly recommend. What's even more sad, is it took me October 2023 to finally pick up a book again, when I haven't read in like 15+ years. I did it for fun. I feel for the younger generation not having a single moment of boredom, of silence, to just process the day and weigh their thoughts healthily. I empathize with both those who never had internet and then got it at the turn of the century, and then the ones younger who are 'ipad kids' and have brain rot. Being stuck in the middle gives me both perspectives and its interesting. Also the song Bored by Deftones is my favorite, so I use that as a device to get me hyped on just being bored. lol

There is no mystery of why "This Past Weekend," is so loved. Theo spills the tea about what an asshat Jesse Ventura was as a guest followed by expressing his love for all things Michael Landon, then casually throws out memories about "sending those hams to Africia." Even his sponsor pitches are unique and funny. I think I've seen every episode. 😅

Around 1:00:00 when they start talking about God.. I do believe that understanding God as being a part of everything is a good stepping stone to finding love and joy connected to nature… knowing you’re a part of that… I read about Zen Buddhism when I was 19 and struggling with God and now I’m a very strong believer as a Christian… it’s interesting how He reaches you in a way that you need… I won’t call Him ‘the great mystery’ like Rainn says, but I will call him ‘I AM’ 🔥🙏

Holy shit the feeling like you needed to be connected with earth to make your wishes come true is hitting me so hard, how we treated objects nice cause we thought they had feelings, we didn’t pick plants cause then we’d be punished in our own life, wishing on freaken dandelions and if your wish came true telling everyone about how a flower did it for you! Childhood is soooo fleeting 😭

So true. I am 68 years old a little while longer 😆 🤣 😂 😹 I feel so much younger than my friends and my family members. Mentally I feel 20 years younger than my husband. My elder sister has dementia and my younger sister has betrayed me one too many times. During the worst of the Pandemic I lost 4 beloved elderly pets. Then too many friends passed over such that I stopped counting. I am a trained Marriage Family Therapist with a terminal degree. I would love to sit and chat with Theo, like many of us struggling to be better humans. I am really new to Theo but I am quickly becoming a big fan. Love this synergy between these 2 lovely humans. 1:28:34 did u catch theo saying he's a cradle ripoff after raine kinda throw his limb analogy under the table which I thought was actually really deep through this whole podcast felt like I was in a room with 2 close brothers and as u know if u had sorry for assuming but u will no brothers wrestle and I don't mean fight which they do but like in the movie Exodus gods and kings when Moses, Cristian Bell is told by Ramsey's,Joel Edgerton that Israel light means one who fights with god and Moses corrects him and says one who wrestle with god there's a difference end quote but it was that moment 1:28:34 was a lil uncomfortable but to see how rains resopnded with sometimes end qute shows if he did get the meaning of theos analogy he understood how much it meant to T and thats what's called overthinking please tell me I'm wrong..... Ps ik my spelling fucked and no punctuation but I'm from that Cormic McCarthy cloth of course he can spell and I have auto correct just to rebal

You can tell Theo really learns a lot from his AA meetings and his internal work on self happiness. When he talks to Rainn about Rainn’a failure in his movie film and how Rainn always wanted more and what he had was never enough. The advice Theo gives him sounds like it came straight from an AA meeting about finding happiness and accepting yourself.

@@chriswest7639 absolutely! Its worth trying it out sometime if you come across a problem you're having difficulty with. The other aspect though, is the fact that society doesnt really hold much in the way of moral values. For me, this meant that when i got clean and became a decent person i was seriously let down because i was under the impression that most people were as well adjusted as people who've worked a serious recovery. The truth is, thats not at all the case. Most people i encounter seem to have backwards morals and no desire to improve themselves. Its like a race to the bottom, and personally i strongly dislike it
