Do you know anything about champaign D'argents? I've heard they are a very cold hardy breed.

I've heard good things about them in cold weather climates. I've not seen them myself, nor do I know anyone who has them.

@@homesteadknowhow I've got a breeder in my area, I might buy a pair and give them a try.

so we have summers of 90-100 degrees but winter can be negative 20 so... what is the best breed?

What about hot weather? I heard they can get heatstroke over 85F?
@homesteadknowhow Жыл бұрын
It's quite rare unless temperatures are near 100 or they are in direct sunlight without a shaded shelter.
@creatureoflegend2635 Жыл бұрын
@@homesteadknowhow that’s good to know. A friend of mine’s rabbit died from heat stroke at 85f. But he has a different breed. So the silverfox ones are extra hardy against heat as well?

Love the silver fox! Their fur is soooo pretty & soft! I've been wanting to get into them once we start the New Zeelands. For both meat and their pelts too. Getting into the pelts after we do our first batch. We plan to breed those soon. And of course, once our long hutch build is done. Hoping within the next week or two. Right now, we have them in the pole barn in individual cages. Let me know if you're in the market to sell a breeder or two (would need separate lines so I can breed them tho). I'd like to have this breed along side the new zeelands we're doing and havent seen much of the silver foxes available around here. Thanks for doing this video! Ive been nervous about the bun buns with the cold here, so I feel better seeing someone else in our area with the buns doing ok :) Curious, what kind of feed do you have them on? It's nearly impossible to find the 18% protein pellets for the nursing moms and kits (per suggested where Ive been reading). Not sure where to find it :(

I've got a litter for sale right now.
@homesteadknowhow3 жыл бұрын
I use a 16 percent protein feed. Producer's Pride from TSC. 16 percent is good for bunnies and mommas as long as it's free fec. They'll eat just a tad more of it and get all there protein needs met.

@@homesteadknowhow Would love to take them but unfortunately, still working to get our hutch built for the nz's. They're in an OK set up right now, but no room for more as of yet, and Im a wanting something a bit more purposefully put together. Ill have to show ya the pole barn next time you come out :) The new hutch should be done in a week or two, hopefully. Once I get that up and going tho, Ill have more space to take new ones on. Probably only going to start with a buck and two does for the Silver foxes (again, need unrelated lines). Right now we have 5 new zeelands, and I need to split their lines (same liter does, and a buck from few liters back, but still related). So, I need to find a nz buck and a nz doe to split those off. So we'll end up with 7 breeders for nz. I think 3 silver foxes are going to fill us up lol....But Ill let you know! If I can get them goin here soon on breeding, may be able to work something out within a month or two. Ill let ya know :)

You really can’t provide a larger safer place for them maybe with a wind shelter… probably the cruelest setup I’ve seen
