Pt. Taranath performed this raga quite often and sometimes approached it with the Puriya aspect accentuated while with others he kept a stronger emphasis on Kalyan. This was the raga that was played the first time he heard Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (who would become his guru a year later) in one of his extraordinary duet performances with Pt Ravi Shankar in Bangalore. He would say that at some point Khansahib took off "like a space shot", and the moment was so intense that Pt Ravi Shankarji set his sitar down for a moment to listen.
