No matter what anybody says, part of me says that Chetan acted naively when giving 'adaptation' rights away for this movie. He should have read the contract more carely, esp the part with 'rolling credits'. If such a contract is duly signed and executed by both parties on legal grounds, I don't think even the Writer's Guild would be able to get Mr. Hirani convicted in any civilized nation's legal system.

I am a big fan of Mr. Bhagat and Mr. Hirani. Both have done no less than excellence. I have read the book twice and its my 13th night continuously of watching 3 idiots. I would say, Hirani has just used a framework of the story and i could say, its his story. I was hurt to see my here Mr. Bhagat going public and there was not the same smile on his face as in the books. Please Bhagat, don't change your image.you are a great writter but mr Hirani is the best script writter. you two r BST

It seems to me, the entire show was done as a markteting strategy which definitely came from the mastermind's Aamir Khan brains and too was also agreed with Chetan Bhagat in advance.

He should have been given credits among screenplay /writing /story ....such corrupted people. .no one can trust them.. including Aamir Khan ...same they did with Harinder Sikka. .author of raazi movie ..modified it giving it a Pakistani good angle. Nd he was not being given credits ...Meghna Gulzar got all of them ..😠😠👆👆👆

Chetan Bhagat is a management graduate. He deliberately created this controversy so that his name gets remembered and we foolish audience start buying his shitty books because we think he was the writer behind the greatest film of all times, 3 idiots. We fell for his marketing gimmick.

Chetan doesn't know the difference between a book and a screenplay. If he thinks 3 idiots was his story, let him write the screenplay for a movie and he will know. Raju Hirani has proven himself again and again through his films. Raju Hirani never asked to be awarded a booker prize for his movie. Why does Chetan want the best screenplay award for a film for which he did nothing other than hearing the script after it was written. Chetan was free to write screenplay himself if he was so confident.

Read book before movie release and obviously have watched movie.. One can identify difference in storyline and plots... Chetan wanted to Crack a bigger deal which he failed to do at first place.. Anyways loved both versions.. Movie was more inspirational and nostalgic

I think all fuss is because "Raju and his team trying to take complete credit at the beginning as if it is entirely his own work" Agreement and legal formalities are at its own place, but Raju should have generously said that we used Chetan's book to write the script for this movie, which wouldnt have belittled his achievements as a writer, but now he has to come out and yell to tell the truth and show agreement to the whole world. No doubt Raju and Chetan both are great writer.

Whatever Hirani said in this video is correct but he is cleverly deviating from the issue at hand. Hirani said the following points in the video: 1.They had bought the rights of the novel.This is true and Bhagat never denied that. 2.He gave him credit in the rolling credits as was promised. The issue is that when the movie's story is around 50% similar to the novel, the book's name and his name should have been at the top of the rolling credits not at the end just like all the movies which are based on a book. 3. He had narrated the entire script to Bhagat. Bhagat never denied that. What he had written in his blog is that " the script was never shown to him ". There is a big difference between narration of the script and the actual script being shown. Apart from this, Hirani and Abhijat Joshi are clearly trying to take the whole credit of the story as Bhagat's name is not mentioned in Story and Screenplay credits shown in the beginning of the film.

Slumdog Millionaire was a modified adaptation of Vikas Swarup' s Q & A. But when the film received an Award,Danny Boyle called each and every cast and the Novelist Vikas Swarup on the stage to receive the Oscar and also acknowledged him in whole heartedly. This is their culture and what these three idiots(Aamir,Raju,Vidhu Vinod) did is India's Naked and Barbaric Face. I agree that Aamir is one of the Versatile Actors but,I also agree that he is the most credit hungry actor.

Book and movie are very different from each other, that is where the problem lies. When an author of a novel sees that the movie made on it does not match his story, he is obviously hurt. There are certain instances from the novel that have been included in the movie, and that's all, and this is what pissed Chetan Bhagat. Actually, the contract between the two parties was itself faulty. It should not have been written there that the movie is based on the novel, but that certain aspects of/in the movie have been taken from the novel, and not the entire novel itself; or that the movie is 'inspired' by the novel, and not 'based on' the novel. Since this did not happen, that's why the controversy arose. As someone who has both read the novel and seen the movie, I was definitely disappointed when I compared both of them. But watching the movie alone, while remembering some scenes from the novel here and there, I was impressed with the movie.

Actually, the thing is that after 3 idiots becoming such a great Blockbuster, Chetan must have felt that what if his name had come in the starting of the movie, so he is speaking senseless things like these......,,,,,,,,,

I love raju hirani , but rights were bought for 10 lakh ruppes and movie made 100 crore plus on basis of that story so raji should show some respect and give bhagat some more more as a token of appreciation.

Chetan just didnt understand what rolling credit means. He should have had it put in the contract that he would like a single credit of his name and title of his book just before the movie title appears on screen. Eg: Bram Stokers Dracule , JRR tolkiens Lord of the Rings. Or the way Spielberg did it with Jurrasic Park by putting Michael Crichton name before title appears onscreen.

@narenreddy7: I honestly read the story from bangalore to chennai, when i travelling in train. I got really excited reading it. It is original story happened in the life chetan and his friends. If i were a hirani, i would have displayed cheat bhagat's name in front of movie as like holly wood movies and given due credit to him as per the global standard. We will not emerge as global power, untill if we start comparing the global method/process. This applies to everyone and everywhere.

If Chetan could write such an amazing book he could have written many more with Raju and become an integral part of Raju’s team and progressed well.

Please appreciate the masterpiece of Chetan that's five point someone. The movie is 80% based on it. So a man masterpiece should appear in rolling credit is it justified?? A man's masterpiece's value be 10 to 15 lacs . It appear Chetan was cheated during the contracts by telling film was just 5 to 10% of the book.

Normally in hollywood movies the author are shown on the movies when it starts. Why the same method is not followed in 3-idiots. Per chetan, it seems the name is added along with other artists which is bad. I think, we all know indian mentality right?.
