@@thebalerman I live in north Missouri and am wanting to plant 10 acres into hay, square bale it and sell as horse hay. Thinking 2 acres alfalfa, 5 acres orchard grass, 3 acres alfalfa/orchard mix. Just looking for ideas to market and sell the products.

@@rickmcguire4284 Ok I could probably do a short video on what I do and what hay I have and what hay sells the best and has the best margins for input compared to value.

It’s from The Fine Twine Company. I have a video undid on it before the season, it’s oversized rolls, 7200’ per individual roll. So 1.5 times the size of a standard 9600’ set.

We sell by the bale, just no good way to weigh out. It depends on the hay but between $6-$7/bale.

I assume what you’re calling a sleigh is what I would consider an accumulator? I’m weighing my options and testing out my methods. This is the first year for attempting mechanized bale handling. So far things have gone fairly well. Considering everything that’s been going on and not being super prepared. I’m picking up with a NH 1032 Stackliner. Then for loading trailers out of the field or out of the barn I built a squeeze and bought this squeeze that I just got set up good enough to use.

@@thebalerman Well, a common version here in Ireland was just a three sided frame with a rear gate and about ten long strips of steel for the "floor". Every 8 or 10 bales you pulled a rope and opened the rear gate. It didn't arrange them in any particular order, unlike more high tech accumulators.

I’m planning to use it in conjunction with the squeeze. Still have to see exactly the best way to use each of them, which is better in the field and which is better at the barn. It will handle layers off the stacker.

I got my oversized rolls of twine from the Fine Twine Company. I bought it all last year so not sure what the price is now. But I love the larger rolls of twine!

This year I got about 40 bales/acre. This stand is getting some age which is why I’m planting orchard grass into it this fall. Typically I’ll get about 70 bales/acre first cut on straight alfalfa if it’s a good stand.

@@thebalerman thanks my straight alfalfa was getting thin so I drilled orchard into it as well. Just 5lbs/ac but our April was cool and dry so I still just got 40 on 1st cut orchard was only about a foot tall shouldn't I expect more next year after orchard is established? How many times do you fertilize?

Yeah I think an established orchard grass will yield better. I usually try to fertilize on green up in the spring and then after first cutting. Depends on the situation I’ll either mix in my p and okay on the second one or I’ll spread p and okay in the fall.
