Ralph was the greatest. For me, the most ethereal, master of gospel and mountain Bluegrass. You'll always be with us Ralph.

Thank you so very much for sharing these videos. I saw Ralph Stanley the first time in Petit Jean Mountain Arkansas in 1972, the same summer and my first Bluegrass Festival. I am vividly remembering some of my first Bluegrass moments thanks to you. Please post more if you have them but most of all thanks again for sharing these precious videos.

John Barnhart you’re very welcome. I’m glad so many people are enjoying them. They were just too good not to share.

I was there also, I was 10 years old. my dad played the fiddle in a group as a matter of fact he played in a group with the man who organized that show on petit Jean. I remembering him talking about how. much he loved these guys playing and singing. I can see why, this is unbelievable.

And all these years I thought Jack Cooke WAS the ex-Mayor of Norton. I'm crushed! LOL Boy, could that man sing and oh what an entertainer he was! Long Black Veil is his song, I think of him every time I hear it. Also, I bet Ralph loved having the youthful enthusiasm of Ricky and Keith in his band. They sounded so good together. Sorely missed.

Regarding the instruments, very interesting... Looks like Ricky is playing a 2-point oval hole Gibson (late 50's?), and Keith's guitar has block inlays (custom Martin? D45?). Anyone have any info on this guitar?
@dafsaer2 жыл бұрын
It's a D-41. No inlay around the neck, and no neck inlay on the first fret.

Is that the guitar that Lester Flatt gave Young KW?
