Today I drive a 2021 RAM 1500 Rebel off road in deep snow and see how capable this RAM Rebel is in 4wd lock. I even put tire chains on this truck to see if it power through some tough deep snow! we see if this tough ram 1500 rebel is as good or better off road then the monstrous ram 2500 power wagon!
What I Use:
Engine Oil - amzn.to/3jGbTKX
Engine Oil Filter - amzn.to/3uNgIIM
Engine Air Filter - amzn.to/3JMmMVV
Cabin Air Filter - amzn.to/3JMZAHh
Rust protection - amzn.to/38NwWJ7
My Camera Gear:
Go Pro Hero 10 - amzn.to/3ObZdJJ
Go Pro Hero 8 - amzn.to/36grzkM
Go Pro Accessories - amzn.to/3JLhlXo
Sony A6400 - amzn.to/3vkqzob
Hope everyone is have a good weekend! My good friend threw down a good challenge saying that his 2021 RAM Rebel could out perform my Power Wagon on a very challenging snow covered hill off road. he said that because the ram rebel is only around 5,000 pounds and a full 2,000 pounds lighter then my beefy power wagon it would have a better chance of getting up the snowy hill. he also has added some power to his 5.7 hemi so this rebel is making more power then my 6.4 hemi in my power wagon which could help in terms of speed.
I thought this could be interesting because the weight of my power wagon does sink me really deep in the snow and mud and so maybe the lighter truck would prove to be better in this situation.
the Rebel has a great 4wd system. it has the BW 44-45 transfer case. Meaning it is a true locking transfer case which is a nice feature to have off road. It is also a much stronger transfer case then the other option (Bw44-44) that comes in the Ram 1500 trucks. additionally the rebel has the ability to lock up the rear axle making this truck very capable off road. this rebel has an extra inch of suspension height adding to ground clearance and some nice grippy wrangler duratrac tires which are great in the snow. lastly, this rebel has 3.92 gears making giving this truck plenty of torque to the wheels especially when in 4wd low!
so we set out to the testing ground to see which ram truck would do better off road in the deep snow!

Another great vid and of all your buddy’s trucks I still prefer the power wagon. Have you played with different tire pressures to see if it has any effect in the snow?? Also I don’t find any “off road type’’ tire that’s good in the snow.

I haven't yet no. but since my shop is nice and close to that location it would be a great little video! I'll have to see how low you can take those tires down to. and ya it's tough most off road tires don't take snow into consideration. the duratracs do to some extend which is why I like them

4 low (Rebel will do close to 40 mph in low range, so plenty of wheel speed) and if only using 2 chains always chain up the front first (the added weight of the engine helps dig and get traction, rear is too light) traction control off, lock the rear. I'd like to see you try it again in the Rebel or Power Wagon with chains on the front. Guarantee you'll get a lot farther.

Hi Getty! I have a 2019 Dodge 1500 classic with the 44-45 transfer case. No auto, only lock and low. Are these trucks safe to launch in 4x4 lock? I’ve been wanting to do some street racing but have always been afraid to take it outta 2 wheel drive.. I seen your video on the 4x4 lock going in circles and you claim no binding or anything. What do you think? Mostly just racing in a straight line 😂 thanks, love your videos! Cheers
@TheGettyAdventures
@TheGettyAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
with the 44-45 I would be cautious. I had the 44-44 in my truck which is why it didn't bind. but the 44-45 will bind because it is truly locking both axles to each other. she'll work great in a straight line but i wouldn't be turning on dry pavement with your truck in 4wd lock

Sometimes the snow is just too deep. A lot of people put on bigger tires and that can help some but could negative effects on the geometry and transmission. The Power Wagons are probably better suited for rock crawling, although I have say that last week I had 1000 lbs of livestock feed in mine and it did make a difference driving up the mile long snow covered road up to my barn. The problem is that if I drive around like that all the time, my wife can’t ride with me. Mmm…

@TheGettyAdventures

I know! a couple of guys were saying it has to do with tire PSI being too high. but I mean the nice thing with having a 2500 is getting 2 solid from axles. CV axles tend to snap like tooth picks so these PW can take some abuse before letting go. but I hear ya man not a good feeling!

4 low, first gear and let it crawl up the hill don’t try to force your way way up. My step dads heavy half F150 (late 70’) manual with 11” wide tires would push snow with the grill climbing a good grade. I know there is ice your dealing with but damn, you’ll sink every time trying it that way

Thought a power wagon has locking front and rear axles where rebel just has locking rear?.....
@TheGettyAdventures
@TheGettyAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Ya that is true. But the front only locks in 4low. And the 4 low ratio is huge on the PW so the wheels turn so slow. With snow you usually want more wheel speed. So I kept it in 4wd high and just locked the rear diff

Well I mean my power wagon with front and rear lockers couldn't do it. So I don't think computers has anything to do with it. the jeep could have better luck because it would be lighter and not dig down into the bottomless snow. maybe some wider tires too and really distrubute the weight and keep the jeep ontop of the snow. who knows!
