A sort of explanation and info sharing about the commonly used Velocity Stack or
" Ram Air " as termed locally and a few data logs we were surprised to find and quest for improving always
The article by GP Blair is quite valuable and its worth checking and reading here

To add a disclaimer : on 4stroke engines (car or bike) when at full throttle the map sensor in the manifold sees "zero" meaning no vacuum no boost , mainly because the intake pipe length and velocity stack helps "stack air" into the manifold plenum enough to what engine needs. A FEW cases i have seen +0.5 to +0.8psi boost pressure and you can imagine that MUST feel good :) and as seen we were in vacuum at the datalogs :( i know some who races in the US that sees even +1-2psi pressure on the map so thats naturally aspirated but going to the traps at 145mph is enough speed to gain that helps and boost!! even for Bikes i saw Yoshimura do a "dual stack that has been rumored to actually boost the signal even better :) hope that adds help to you guys

Very informative data here. We can conclude that you are running a little lab regarding engines and testing. Great work done well.:)

Hello. I really appreciate all your content.I think I have watched and liked almost all your D series videos. Looking at your ram air ideas here, I would suggest you look at what the factory motorcycles do to build pressure inside the air box at speed. you may be surprised to see the inlet has minimal radius and from the inlet tapers to a larger plenum changing velocity to pressure available to the throttle body. I had seen an experiment back in the early 90's where someone had put a boost gauge to the air box of a Kawasaki ZX11. The air box pressure was a little less than 1lb at wide open throttle, yet jumped to 5lbs positive pressure when the throttle was cut. Those ram air systems are pretty effective at speed. Again, I appreciate all your content. Thank you.

@@danielllewellyn5720 true on the 2 stroke many never realized a 500cc 2stroke was still wilder and stronger than a 1000cc 4stroke gp bike I didn’t reach the schwantz/roberts era but read about it a lot… on the tail end of Doohans time I started paying attention to MotoGP 😎

@SRDmotorsportsTV Funny I found your video just after reading said document of GPBlair, though what's most interesting is that you made a rectangular bellmouth even after in the document they stated it flows less than the regular circular radiused bellmouth, and to top it off, you made the bellmouths yourself and didn't even apply the 2.13 ratio mentioned in the document.
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 2 жыл бұрын
thank you for the comment and i agree with all you have said :) especially the rectangular flows less , we just needed more "square area" up front to catch more air, is it the right answer? we dont know but thats the beauty of R&D right ? and yes sir on the 2.13 ratio too its why its a personal test we still taking and the main thing is the "dyno" stack to be tried which might be the one tested first as due to this pandemic? its hard to test cuz no events :( thank you so much for the comment as it is very sensible and with alot of sense cheers amigo! also the smart ones will understand that the article was conducted in a flow bench on "ambient" non moving air surroundings being forward facing especially over 120mph for us , theres a big difference thats def worth considering

Which velocity stack is recommended for performance? Is it the short or the long one?
