Thank You Mr. Blair. Your video was very helpful. I was able to update my map following your directions. Here are some things I noticed while doing the update. I had version 6 on my 2017 Ram 1500 Limited. First, I hooked up a charger to my battery as suggested, and kept the key fob in vehicle. I turned the ignition to the run position(without motor running). But on mine, it would shut down after about thirty minutes, and I would have to repress the start button. Didn't seem to interfere with the download. I had three units to install, so it took me about three and a half hours to do the process. But I couldn't have done any of it without watching your video. Thanks.

I watched this video after purchasing the update. Many of the items you mentioned as being new were already on mine and I was seriously concerned that someone had already updated it before I got the truck. Its a 2013 model and I just got it a month or so ago. I was greatly relieved when it finally gave me a date of 2011 as the database on the system so it hadn't been updated since new.

Nice video, I did get the new Map installed and one area I would have not thought was to leave the key fob in the vehicle so that was a great point you made. The update took almost 2 hours and the version I updated to was HMNA2016Q4. I have to mention that on my previous truck (F150) they send you an SD card, you plug it in, and about 20 minutes later the update is done. It's a mystery to me why with RAM you have to get the Request Code from the vehicle and then return to the computer to enter a bunch of numbers to get an 'activation code' and then enter that and wait over an hour. I do admit the Uconnect offers more features than my old truck, but I think RAM should just have you plug in the map-USB and that's it. Earlier in the week I did update the software version and that took about 45 minutes or so and was required before the maps could be installed. Anyway, the process does work successfully with most messages that come up on the screen just as the documentation shows; but there were some differences and that's not good when it takes this long to do the update. We should all bug RAM about cleaning up this process and documentation. Thank you for your video.

I just did the same thing a week ago I paid $168 from uconnect i opted for the faster shipping . It still doesn't have alot of streets or highway on it i'm kinda pissed . that being said i appreciate your videos Marion!

are you talking about a unit similar to the one I purchased at Harbor Freight that you use to jump star car with dead battery and also has an air compressor for tires? i have heard people call it trickle charger, is this the same thing? Mine can be plugged into electric to charge it takes 24 hours or more.???

Hi Marion - Excellent Video, and thanks!!! One question (Step-by-step-for-dummies :-)) - When you first put the USB in the truck to get the requestor code; with the engine already running - once you have written down the requestor code to go back to the computer with, do you pull out the USB and shut the truck down, or do you have to keep it on while you are trying to activate it on the internet?? I would assume so; and then re-insert the USB and restart the truck once ready for the download/update??

Thanks for the video. Did you notice any changes to the map features or look? I raised a point to someone I know at FCA about the content of the map. My wife has a E Class Mercedes and that nav system shows campgrounds but my truck that I use to haul my 5th wheel does not🤔. If that was updated I would consider the expense.

Great video, now how did you get the request code? Mine don’t show a code on that screen. I checked for software updates but said it’s all up to date? But mine is a 15. Something. And I see yours is 17. I can’t update my navigation. Nothing pops up on the screen when I plug in the usb. 2014 ram 1500.

Marion, I’ve just loaded the 17.43.01 uconnect update to my 8.4an... 2013 ram 2500 6.7.. the backup cam has what seems to be high contrast... if I reset the radio to factory settings, what exactly does that change?.. just your personal settings ... I’m presuming it keeps the newest update on truck?? Any advice would be appreciated

You would think as much as these cost they would have FREE lifetime map updates. My Garmin has that and it works great!

Would you be so kind as to tell me which USB port you used for the update? I’m helping my neighbor update theirs and it doesn’t finish the update. It tells us the “code” is wrong. We are using the port on the radio itself. Thank you in advance!

$65,000 or higher trucks and Mopar wants to charge $100 for map updates. Absolutely ridiculous. Map updates should be OTA and free.

Isn't it amazing that they charge so much for the maps while when you buy a Garmin GPS you get free unlimited downloads. Anything to rob ya hahahaha. This summer I've received and "over-the-air" update. It said to leave the truck running and should take about an hour. It did a uConnect update that took 20 mins. Everyone is so scared to let these things idle. I say its ridicules. They included a AC plug in it for what? Obviously to use power equipment, etc.... If they don't want you to idle it then how are you to use it? Are we suppose to run down the road using a table saw or drill, etc..? Let 'em idle :)
