Guitar: 1998 Dominique Field SP/CSAR (www.guitarsalon.com/product-1...)
Here's Raphaël Feuillâtre performing the fifth movement from Jean-Philippe Rameau's "Pièces de Clavecin: Suite in E Minor" called "Le Rappel Des Oiseaux" on a lovely 1998 Dominique Field classical guitar made with spruce top and CSA rosewood back and sides. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at Apogee Electronics (ApogeeDigital.com) for the use of their Ensemble interface in these recordings.

Wow. This is unbelievably good. I would have never thought a guitarist could play this piece so seamlessly. Is it me, or has classical guitar playing as a whole advanced a lot in last 20 years or so? When I was younger it seemed like you generally had to expect a certain level of imperfection with guitar performances, due to the limitations of the instrument. Even with the masters. But now I see a lot of players really approaching a certain level of perfection. And as someone who has dabbled in classical guitar and knows just how hard it is, that really blows my mind. Anyway, congrats to Raphaël Feuillâtre. This was an unbelievable performance.

Yes the masters of the late XXth century managed to train a new generation of classical guitarists that are arguably even better technically than they were and that are, at least, way more numerous than them. Raphaël is one of them, he was one of the latest students of Dyens before his passing away.

Even at my small city's conservatory we notice each generation being much better than the previous for their age, it's amazing to see and makes you feel old at the same time

I believe the guitar playing has evolved and raised significantly over the last few decades. I think that guitarists like Raphaël Feuillâtre or Marcin Patrzalek (see his performance on "Nicolo Paganini, Caprice No. 24", when he was 16) simply did not exist. In my humble opinion, this fact (in addition to the nowadays tuition capabilities) is connected to "Morphic Resonance", postulated by Rupert Sheldrake.

There was a lot of edits and splices in this recording. The difference is recording mixing technology. I've have a disclaimer that to get an excellent recording, it takes 2 hours of recording to get 1 minutes of music and another 4 hours of editing. It's just the way it is. At least most admission recordings state they can't be edited. Recording and editing students used to take so much time

Just a though... When I listen to male guitarists I hear more pronounced sound, individual notes, variabilies between them. I am not a musician, I am not even remotely trying to compare male vs female guitarists, they are ALL great! My question is this: Is it possible that wrist muscle strength is the reason that I am hearing the difference or am I totally wrong?

Amazing dexterity and accurate fingering. As for the music, I don't really like it because to me it sounds like an advanced fingering exercise rather than a musically beautiful piece. Nevertheless to play like this requires great skill.
@ClassicalPan

It's beautiful to me, but maybe it's just the tempo that's throwing people off. It's a bit frantic and he is racing to keep up and many of his slurs suffer a bit. I'd like to hear it a little slower so I can appreciate each note that's being played.
