They really can when you get arrested. They can even check your phone if it doesn't have a password. They need a warrant for the password, but if it doesn't have a password it's fair game.

@@Athasin That REALLY depends on the state. Some states cops need a warrant no matter what. There is no case laws in NP that says they can or can't do it, so it would have to go court to see if it's allowed.
