Please, please, please never apologize for a display of genuine emotion. We seem to get so little of that in our world these days, and we need more of it. I appreciate it. I love this recipe, and I thank you for sharing it with folks who have never had it before. I promise you’re gonna love it. Thank you!

Tom. Thank you for being open about this. I spent a year in a children’s home as a child and thank God for all the people who were able to take care of me when my parents weren’t able, teachers included. Thanks to them I was afforded a somewhat normal life during a very uncertain time in my life. That was almost 60 years ago and I remember all their kindness.

Here is my other story... Some 24 years ago, when I was a elementary library clerk, we had a treat day. One of the students was diabetic, and she brought diabetic friendly bar cookies. I am now diabetic. I still make the bars. Her name was Meghan Barr, so to this day I make Meghan Barr bars. Thank you for being back this memory.

At times like this I really wish there were a "Love" button and a "Hugs" button to press instead of just a thumbs up. You showed that you are a genuine, kind man with a large heart. I pray that someday you will be able to give Juanita a great big hug. I am sure that God brought you into her life to make a positive influence on her and show her love. I bet she still remembers her favorite teacher, you. God Bless.

This is the BEST coleslaw I have ever eaten ! ! ! Barely any left for tomorrow ! ! What a touching story to go with it. There are 6 kids in my family and as we grew up and moved on, Mom and Dad took in foster kids. Over the years they cared for over 250 kids in foster care. We have always wondered where this one or that one ended up and how they are doing. Juanita and Joey, PLEASE contact this sweet family if you see this ! ! Thanks for sharing !

I am watching this through tears. Thank you for showing us how much you care. I hope all children have teachers like I know you and Melissa were. My grandfather was a jeweler. When I was a child he took me to an orphanage in San Diego, to pick up some Sister’s Rosaries he was going to repair. I spent several hours there playing with the other children. While there we played with a big doll house that had working little lights. Later I learned my grandfather bought them that playhouse. He couldn’t adopt them, but he visited often and let them know they were loved.

I LOVE this Recipe! I got it at a Potluck at my Daughters school, in 2000. You know, as a student, you will always have a Teacher that makes a difference in your life and you will never forget them. But as a Teacher, there will always be that Student that makes a difference in your life and you will never forget them. I found out that working with Children can really impact your life and sometimes break your heart. I worked in one of the Elementary Schools in our district, and I worked in the Cafeteria. There were days that I went home and sobbed. The compassion you have in your heart for these children warms my ♥️ God Bless

Thanks for this video! Funny story........I attended a covered dish supper at our high school in Colorado one evening (mid-90's), and this Ramen coleslaw wound up on my plate. I took a bite, and the taste hit me like a brick, lol, which I then raved about and asked everyone at my table if they knew who brought it. Nobody knew, but as we lingered and visited, people were starting to retrieve their serving dishes to take back home before leaving. Well, I unashamedly watched closely for the person who took that prized coleslaw bowl, and when she picked it up, I approached and told her how much I loved it and would she mind sharing the recipe. She was so flattered and said, of course she would! I have made that recipe soooo many times since then, I can't even count, ha. P.S. On hot summer nights when cooking sounds awful, sometimes I add shreds of cooked chicken to the recipe, and it becomes a nutrious and delicious light supper!

I'm crying just seeing the love you share with Juanita & Joey! I love your channel & watched this one because this is a recipe that my hubby's coworker made, and he loved it, but I never knew the name of it. Thank you! I'll say a prayer or three for Juanita & Joey. Much love ❤

In the late 80's I learned a recipe while teaching also, that was similar. We used the Japanese brand Ichiban Soup (Ramen) and our dressing was similar. White sugar, honey, sesame oil, regular oil (I used grapeseed), rice wine vinegar, & soy sauce. I toasted my almonds and I also added toasted sesame seeds. The cabbage we used was chinese cabbage, finely sliced celery, the green onions and finely sliced carrots ( like shredded sticks). When I had it, I put in finely grated fresh ginger. Enjoying your recipes and your presentations.

Just from the ingredients in this recipe its easy to see that those kids were loved. That being said I love coleslaw and will be trying the recipe. From there I might be trying a variant as well. Thanks so much for sharing!

Even when I am using ramen for soup, I break up the ramen noodles before cooking. I have found that it is much easier to break them up before you open the package. I use the heel of my hand to crush them on my countertop. Sometimes the package will open depending on how much air is in there, so I start out slow, but it works so well and I find the noodles are easier to eat if they are not so long. I would crush them in the package for this recipe too as I don’t have as much hand strength as you do and it would be more difficult for me to break them up the way you did. I had this cole slaw years ago and had completely forgotten about it. As I remember, I thought it was delicious and I am anxious to try it again. I had forgotten you put the soup mix in the dressing so am glad to have my memory refreshed! Thanks! (fyi, I got teary thinking about Juanita too!)

This is a great recipe! One of my favorites too. 😮I find it easier to break up the ramen before I open the pack. I whack it with my rolling pin. A meat tenderizer would also work. I doubt rental houses have either of those. Maybe lean on them with a potato masher. I have had this with sliced button mushrooms. It was delicious! I never met a version I did not like! I toast the ramen, the almonds ( I use sliced because they are easier to chew), the sunflower seeds, ( plus sesame seeds) in a dry skillet until just golden. If taking this to a potluck, I add these crunchies right at serving time.

While I intend to try the recipe, I mostly appreciated the loving banter between you two over the spilled sugar. Never apologize for demonstrating love - whether it's between a long-married couple or teachers for former students. (The Greeks had a whole different word for a teacher's love of students. I think it was storgé.)

May you ALWAYS have this heart of yours. My hsb & I enjoy your videos! I still tear up trying to talk about sweet things in the past. 🥰. Tom, Melissa will never live that down will she? I have heard of Ramen Noddle Cole Slaw but have never tried it. David (hubby) is not so sure he would like it, so I might cut it in half the first time I make it. I think it sounds delicious! It’s obvious the two you are very compassionate about your former students. Our older daughter is a teacher and is the same. Our younger daughter is now a Legal Liaison between the DA’s Office and CPS, was formerly a Caseworker, and she is also so compassionate about “her kids”! My husband came from a VERY poor family but broke the pattern of poverty in his family by earning degrees in Math and Computer Science, worked 44+ years in Software Design and Management before retiring. His family of origin was intact, but these children in homes like you speak of mean so much to us! And our first grandchild is a beautiful formerly abandoned baby in China. I can’t tell you how much we love her and her brother who is our daughter and SIL’s bio child! Forgive me for such a long comment! But your compassion definitely spills over and rings a bell loud and clear with our family! Too bad we aren’t neighbors! Ha! I should add, David and I both give God the glory - his is a much longer story and it is definitely because of the Lord - and some very compassionate teachers he had along with some people who knew him and paid for him to go to Baptist summer camp when her was 13. Forgive the length of this! I got carried away! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Our God reigns!!! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

❤❤ You an Melissa are AMAZING. I was born in Mexico (Guadalajara) and one of the things my mother (rest in peace) always, always said to us. TEACHERS ARE YOUR SECOND PARENTS. Parents give us life BUT Teachers give us KNOWLEDGE. That is why you need to respect and love your teachers because they are an extended family. We can't grow without both of them. So, my friend, you have both done an AMAZING job raising our children My daughter is also a teacher. She had the choice to teach any grade and she chose Kindergarten. I asked her why and she said, at this age they are like sponges. They want to learn so much that she felt privileged to be able to start the beginning of their young life with them. They are full of joy and everything you teach them they are happy. I am sure you both are excellent teachers. The second parent of every single child you had in your classes. As being their parent of course you miss them and think of them also. So my friend, you have many children that you miss. All the children also miss you❤❤❤❤❤🙏

My husband and I love watching your videos. We make this salad and love it. We add a few drops of Tabasco sauce and a little black pepper in the dressing to add a bit more flavor. We enjoy your recipes because they’re “normal” foods 😂 You don’t season everything with a ton of onion and garlic powder. Your foods remind me of the things my mom and auntie made as I was growing up here in Iowa. Btw I understand what you mean about wondering what have happened to kids that have crossed our paths in the past. I just have to pray that the Lord is taking care of them and they remember how much we meant to them.
