The total distance between Rameshwaram and Kanyakumari is 325 Km and it takes as much as six and a half hours to reach the destination by car. As per several forum answers, the shortest route from Rameshwarm to Kanyakumari is through - Ramanathapuram, Kizhakari, Sikkal, Tuticorin, Tiruchendur and Koodankula, which is also very picturesque as people get to drive along coastal roads.
Rameshwaram to Kanyakumari by Bus
You can board a bus from Rameshwaram to Kanyakumari, which takes around 7 hours to reach the destination. The Kanyakumari bus stand is located a kilometer away from the city centre. This option is ideal for economical or backpacking travelers who want to travel light.
Rameshwaram to Kanyakumari by Train
A direct train ride from Rameshwaram ( Ramanathpuram) to Kanykumari will also take around seven hours, like the bus ride. The Kanyakumari rail station is about 3 km away from the city centre. One can take an auto-rickshaw or a cab to travel to the city centre.
Rameshwaram to Kanyakumari by Car
You can choose to rent a cab or a tourism car to go to Kanyakumari from Rameshwaram, this drive as mentioned above will take around six and a half hours if the road conditions and everything else remains normal. Approximate cab rates vary from INR 8 to INR 30 per km and also depend highly on the type of the car you choose. The car drive is a comfortable, convenient and picturesque option especially for large groups of travelers.
