The reason why I’ve always been a Rammstein fan. Their songs are like stories it’s not two or three lines, over and over again. Rammstein is very poetic.

Till is a poet. Much like Jim Morrison. People who write are the the best at music because they can actually give you something to comprehend. That’s why rammstein is so addictive even if you don’t know German. You can tell it means something. I recently started learning German so I can understand the music.

Since from what I've seen so far in the comments most are still confused about the song and what it is about. So here it is. The song is about a child (specifically a boy) that wasn't naturally born in a womb but in an experiment. Therefore not having true biological parents. In the song first he explains how he was created and how different from biologically born children he was. (I say was because this is sang, shown and narrated by an adult man) From the loud choirs of "MOTHER" (at the beginning of the song) also while he continues to describe all other things he couldn't and wasn't allowed to do and have, he describes his hatred towards the childhood and birth he had and his hatred towards his "mother". He later on continues to describe his revenge, planning to kill his "mother" and himself afterwards and then dumping her into the river. While he (possibly) killing his "mother" he fails to kill himself and the choirs of "MOTHER" that at first represented his hatred towards "her", it's now viewed as a helpless cry to his "mother". "Mother...Mother. Mother? MOTHER!" as if coming to the realization of what he has done, and despite hating "mother" he now cries for her like a helpless lost child. When the song is coming to the end we can hear as he begs or perhaps even prays to God or to "mother" to "Give him strength". Fun fact! Till Lindemann and Richard Kruspe both said that this song was reference to their unhappy childhood relationships with their own mothers.

yo mama I really connect with till on certain aspects of this song with my dad.. he’s always been emotionally passive, or passive aggressive with all of my siblings, or belittles any of us.. just generally belligerent (all of us are adults now, I’m 24, older sibling is 25, younger brother is 19).. and now he’s turned to alcohol, 4-6 glasses of whiskey a day and he is not fun to be around drunk.. he’s always baiting one of us or purposely triggering my brother (even calling him a pussy when he refuses to engage and he leaves..) I don’t think he really realizes that he is pushing his children, or my mom away with how he’s been.. sorry for over sharing but both of my parents just had a huge fight and he’s going on a huge tirade at his desk as I’m typing this and I really just needed to spill it out... I’m just mentally tired..

German native here! my interpretation is the following: the protagonist is an abandoned child who grew up without maternal love. the father is never even mentioned and basically vanished once the kid was born. in the refrain the protagonist removes a birthmark (Muttermal = mother's mark) with a knife because he hates his mother so much. it's all about pain, grief and the trauma experienced. other interpretations are possible though and published by the band.

In my mind, this song tells a more dark romantic tale, parallel to the child cloning story that the song was written to be. To me, this song represents the loss of the strange mix of maternal and sexual love you get from a partner. My former lover, in a strange way, loved me the way a mother would love her child. I watched her deteriorate before me, and there was nothing I could do to stop it, as hard as I tried. It was as if I walked in on an affair. So when this forbidden, taboo love was gone, it felt as if I had lost a piece of myself. The entire song, in my eyes, is a song that you feel ashamed and guilty for loving it in a dark way, like the song itself is watching you and shaming you for being such a strange individual. It is a complex emotion brought forth by a genius piece of music, seemingly eerily amplified in this rendition. Beautiful work.

Re-listening to this song a bunch... I think helped me develop one of my characters. I wrote this character who was a clone of the protagonist. How he came to be isn't pretty. The basic thing is that he was raised to over power the protagonist in every way, so listening to a song about someone like that really helped me fine tune the anger and frustration the clone feels towards his creators and the person he was cloned from.

Seems more like Elvira's theory. If his mom died he'd still not be "fathered without sperm" or not given a name. "The mother who didn't give birth to me" probably refers to the scientists who created the character being sung as.

I love this album. I bought it the day it was released. I remember reading a review online somewhere a few weeks after it was out and it was criticized for sounding like "music you can listen to while you invade Poland." Lol, it cracked me up! All these years later l think of that review everytime l listen to anything off the album and laugh haha

Hey guys, this song is NOT about abortion! It’s about the artificial conception of human beings in test tubes. Stop saying otherwise.

That's the impression I got from it, not abortion. Thanks, wasn't sure. I've heard different things.

Wow you guys are fucking dense. Holy shit. Like, holy shit. “Stop saying otherwise” want some fruit loops with your fucking massive ego, there, dick cheese? Interpretation. Is that a new word to your vocabulary?

It's about a guy who is a test tube baby who kills his "mother" and then proceeds to kill himself, but fails to do so, instead leaves himself scarred and disfigured. This forces him to come to terms with the fact that even though he hated his mother, he needed her at that point more than ever.

Why is it that 90% of Rammstein's music on KZfaq is removed, or only covers, instrumentals or lower pitch? Wtf????

They want people to purchase music through authorized retailers that pay royalties to them.

...well, you can listen to the originals without any restrictions, so what's the problem? Ask this question to all those, who try to clickbait using R.'s stuff. My guess is: avoid filters which block unauthorized stuff, OR use of lousy software

..oh ,i forgot - but that is MY SPECULATION - in Germany some registered NGO's are allowed to lawsuit you (in the name of customers rights, anti discrimination and.so.on and.so.on even if not effected themselfes!!) if you foult on PC. Two options: strict regulation in time AND on the matter, or avoid feedback at all so regulation not necessary. Pic one...
