This sword belongs to Ancient Greek or spartan Armoury. These types of swords were built to hold them in one hand and the classic blade was generally about 50-60 cm long, although the Spartans supposedly started to use blades as short as 30 cm around the era of the Greco-Persian Wars.
Me and my elder brother we helped each other to make this video and i am deeply thanks to our every single subscriber who is supporting us to do something new and creative. I made this just for fun i am not promoting any kind weapons so guys just sit back relax and enjoy the video.
I love the Brass and you guyz can see casted brass looks really enchanting in the handle.
Some of viewers just hate me to much because of using brass but its my skill so i want to work on the things i am good to do so guys watch the videos just for fun.
I showed the whole procedure for restoring this chopper in this video.
o. The liquid i used to remove RUST was VINEGAR.
o. I used sandpapers of different GRITS for the shine of the steel.
o. Brass casting was done for the HANDLE to look more enchanting.
o. Dark coloured wood was used to make the handle.
o. For Hardening the blade i used my own handmade METAL MELTING FURNACE.
o. I used clear paint to shine the wooden handle and Brass was shined by special brass polish.

@Kingtatos
@Kingtatos 4 жыл бұрын
The reason they are complaining is because there's a very big difference between restoring and customizing, we came to see a historical object getting restored and brought back as close as possible to its former glory, what we got was someone damaging and ruining a historical object (if it even is one) for their own desired look. And you don't need to be able to do this to complain about the blatant clickbait that the title is. Hope that clears it up for ya. Have a nice day.

If it really was an Ancient Greek sword 1. It wouldn’t be that size and shape 2. Would be made of bronze 3. Would be worth millions and be in a museum

@kdoesgaming5039 4 жыл бұрын
GlobalWarmingXD I would agree with you that it would be probably in a museum but it wouldn’t be necessarily made of bronze, the start of the Iron Age in Greece started in 1200bc which is considered to be in the era of “ancient” Greece. Also it can be that size and shape, it is a weapon called a kopais, favoured by Athenian generals and very rarely spartan polemarchs who would carry spears instead.

Just based on my experience working with old, damaged tools I'd say this sword is around 40-50 years old easily under 100 If it just had a neglectful owner it could be under 20. If I had to guess I'd say it was made as a replica from either the 300 movie or graphic novel since most Greek swords where double edged.

What I love most about these videos, is that these are real swords. Not replicas, not models, not mantle pieces. These are full fledged old school ancient works of art being restored to their full capacity (only most likely better, guaranteed the iron and steel was never brought to a shine that bright five or six hundred years ago) and showcased for all to see. Makes me respect blacksmiths even more to think they would have had to fashion these with nothing a hammer and a ladle.

@@azadanandashareef1766 yes but you can't just yank out a piece of a blades spine like that and expect the integrity of it to remain. That tiny little chunk did nothing for the actual weight of the blade, negating the fact that blades like this didn't have fullers or any kind of weight reduction to begin with. They were either forged light or heavy. Watch any ABS Bladesmith make a sword like this and you'll see how its properly done, not just taking a drill and fucking up what (could have been) a beautiful blade like this. There's so much wrong with this video and his process that it hurts to watch. The heat treat was horrendously uneven TWICE, if that blade were to undergo and kind of testing other than a fruit or a bottle, it'll snap in half and that's a guarentee.
@DD_Dietriech
@DD_Dietriech 3 жыл бұрын
@@azadanandashareef1766 a fuller or "blood groove" is a structural support most closely related to a Steel I-beam. From back when blades where thicker and wide (cough cough "That's what she said." Cough cough). The sword needed some sort of support as the weight iron plus the leverage multipliers of length and gerth would cause the soft metal blades to bend or easily break. To take out some of the weight while reenforcing the blade the fuller was born. Now I personally am now curious to find out if the I-beam or fuller came first. Idk which would be more awesome a Swordsmith taking a technique from a building support or architects taking a structural support technique from a Blade and applying it to a building support.

To all the people complaining about him damaging it if this really is a historical object: Yes, it’s historical. But do you know how many of these swords were made to arm an entire army? A lot. This is just one, and he’s making it usable and pretty, instead of just letting it stay an old piece of rust for people to look at. We’ve learned all we can learn from it, more of them exist in museums, this one can be changed.

Fun Fact: That kind of greek sword is a *kopis* , a greek interpretation of the khopesh. Their attempt at remaking the khopesh didn't go exactly well, but it could still do fine and deal massive damage in combat.
@user-om4kz5uy1b
@user-om4kz5uy1b 2 жыл бұрын
man, let me enlighten you a bit. "kopis" means cutter, cause that's exactly what this tool was made for. In antiquity it was used by butchers to slice meat and it was Alexander who made it the main weapon of his cavalry (along with the short spear) for it was ideal for close combat - no space for long piercing weapons in such type of battle . As far as i know, it was the greeks who colonized parts of iberia some 2.500 years ago, not the other way around. So, you understand that your "khopesh" derives from our "kopis".

The whole point of a restoration is to restore the piece to its original form. Why on earth would you punch a hole in it? Besides ruining the intended, original form, it completely ruins the structural stability of the sword - that hole was made right along the spine of the sword, a place where most of the force from a blow is going to be directed, and left so little material that it became functionally useless. Without that hole, it could have been a working, functional weapon, fake or no, but the hole in the spine single-handedly turned it into a pretty wall-hanger...

When he calls a sword something like “Greek sword” he means what type of sword it is. It probably isn’t the real deal if he is cutting it, or even has it in his hands

That sword is called a kopis used by spartan soldiers in the 5th century as a secondary weapon to the pilums they generally used (pilum is a spear)

And it seems to be an actual sword from that time looking at the state of the out and inside of the handle and the rusted blade

@@brandonwalenter1147 I highly doubt this is a real kopis By.looking at other 5th century swords, all being mangled and eaten by the rust over the course of the years, i don't think such a perfect model of the kopis would fall into his possession... but then again i have never heard of the kopis until this video but it looks a lot like a khukiri or a falcata. Another point is after looking at photos of the kopis it seems to have a different hilt than the one in the video. The hilt looking once again like one of a falcata. But again i've known nothing of this sword until now.

@@blakefoox6091 kopis type swords were used from Mycenaean times and appeared with the seapeople. They were later favoured by cavalry and mercenaries. A lot of Greek mercenaries came from Arkadia. This is NORTH of Sparta. Spartans did not favour any type of sword. They generally had shorter ones.

The sword looks cool, but to call this an "impossible restoration" is a bit ruffling of your own feathers.

I understand why people are butthurt about him "damaging" the sword but like it looks cooler than if it was just a 100% restoration But thats my opinion and i know everyone has different ones so

Plot twist, he built the sword himself, rusted it himself, and restored it himself. This sword has only been surface corroded, it's no more than a few weeks old at this point.

I find it funny that he first made a dull kopis or had some one else make it because if this was real it would be in a museum and you would never get your hands on one unless you had a few million to spend on a hundreds of years old sword.
