I was thinking the same thing. Lots of these shows have that budget, so why was this lady made out to be almost destitute for it? And Randy is normally all about getting the bride what she wants, but he was dead set against it from the get go, and not one dress was a ballgown type. So weird.

This is a much older episode - and there are way more ballgowns out today that are afforadable, but like 10 years ago - ball gowns at $2000 were hard to find, and hit that "PRINCESS BALLGOWN" look that people usually are looking for. They can do it today, but back when this was shot - no shot, or at least very little of one. Ballgowns are always more pricier.

My first red flag would be the bridal sales rep who just stated " I am not sure you know what you want". After the bride says "Ball Gown"! I would be asking for a diffrent consultant right on the spot. Bad enough to have family breathing down your neck, wanting you on your special day to wear their choice. Sheesh! But add to it a very clueless sales woman who wants to not make happen for you to experience your dream dress. 😮

It was 100% gaslighting. What the consultants should have said is we may not have that style in your price point, but instead they thought they’d try to sway her, seeing the predicament she was in with a pushy family, to accept a similar style in order to secure the sale. It seemed they were the wish washy ones, trying to sway the bride and steer away from ball gowns. This episode was definitely hard to watch, I thought better of the Kleinfeld staff than stooping that low.

@dietotaku

because if they sell her a big dress for a reasonable price, it makes the store look "cheap." look how people talk about david's bridal because of their $100 sale dresses. they didn't have the spine to turn away a bride who couldn't break the bank on the dress she wanted so they tortured her for several hours and insulted her to her face repeatedly.

People go for the experience at Clairfield not the price tag, which if you really look at their websites and whoever their designers are you come on it is torture when they know and go all the way up to New York. They know the prices are going to be expensive and turn right right around also to factor in alterations, it’s the blind leading the blind going up to Kleinfeld and no one, you can’t afford majority of the dresses they have the showroom and then expect a miracle and they might not have a lot on the off rack because big houses like that. They don’t keep a lot of dresses that are going to be reduced, trying to sell it, after a couple months, they’ll actually take those dresses and sell it bulk to a another bridal that offers dresses at a discount where the secondhand will actually buy in bulk so they’ll sell like 2025 dresses for a fraction of the actual worth of the dress and then they’ll mail it and then price quarterly so they can actually get rid of it and also try to make a profit so thousand dollar dress will go for like 4000 but they’ll sell it for maybe six or seven so they can try to make something because they also have overhead too

I don't know why brides don't research more before going dress shopping. If you only have $2k to spend, then Kleinfeld is likely not the place you're going to find a big full ballgown in that price range. David's Bridal, a local bridal shop, or even a discount bridal shop are going to be a bride's best bet.

Although I did have an idea bc ive seen it before, looking for something that was on sale or a cancellation dress maybe. But they can’t pick what’s out of budget unless the bride or the family could expand it alittle but. This time they knew from the get go due to the budget they have no dresses that are ball gowns, but how many times do they pull a dress for a bride that's WAY over budget and not even say anything?! ! I really felt for the bride when they put the ball gown skirt over her, she really did light up. Sometimes there are good employees + businesses out there who do know the best psychological strategy for their clients. A good employee truly helps the client understand their options and what is truly best for them backed by years of best practices and experience. In my industry, if I answered every passenger question the way they think they want, the passenger would never catch their flight. For the bridal industry, there is so much money paid to obtain such a level of emotion for a collection of life memories surrounding your wedding, that it is a slippery slope and inefficient for everyone's time to introduce an idea that does not truly help the bride. When you are handling clients, you must have a good read on where they are at as well. I think for this bride, her losing her job meant that the budget was a bigger priority than a full ball gown.
@sireyck
@sireyck 2 ай бұрын
family dynamics can be more complicated than that. families often shoot down the first dress if it's not what they themselves envision for the bride. If they put the bride in her choice first... and she loves it... and it gets shot down by her family then it upsets the bride and she often won't want the dress anymore. it's not a good experience for the bride when she has to stand there trying to defend her preferences, and many brides either won't stand up for their dress or will cave under peer pressure especially if it's 5 to 1. so the consultants putting the bride in the family's pick first lets the family get it out of their system. they see what they want, the bride says no it's not it and then they all move on. they're then more receptive to seeing her in her own choices without shooting it down. it's a strategy to ultimately help the bride by satisfying and diffusing the family so that she is more likely to end up with the dress she really wants.
@WellISaidIt
@WellISaidIt 2 ай бұрын
They always say that the family rejects the first dress, so they never put her in something that she might want first. I thought it was a good strategy to put her in a dress her family want so it is over and done with and the rest of the appointment is abut her. She is a grown woman if she wanted to try on a different first dress nothing is stopping her from saying so.

The _"I'm a wedding photographer"_ sister thinking that gives her a special insight into what is a "best look" for her sister is failing to realize that the brides she's photographing have long since completed the sorting, matching & choosing _The_ Dress part of the process, so she is completely ignorant of what it took for each of her wedding-day subjects to get to their wedding day look. All the nuances, alterations & manfestations of each dress being made to match each bride's vision varies so much from bride to bride that no two processes are the same.

If you want a dress within your budget, don't go to any of these fancy places like Kleinfelds. I got an absolutely gorgeous princess dress from David's Bridal for under $800. Just because something is more expensive doesn't mean it's the one.

It looks like some of you won’t listen. Debbie tried to put her in a nice dress closest to her wishes within the low budget. At the end Debbie turned to be right because she wanted a dress from a luxury boutique way too much for her poor budget. Hope she found her dress somewhere. You’ll be surprised at nice things that can be found in cheaper bridal places.

Maybe they could have asked her to go up a grand. 3. sister wanted to help, but my goodness was annoying and if she wanted to see her in this or that, maybe offer to help with the dress price possibly. If you aren't willing to help, I don't feel you should be that vocal. Listen to the bride first.

I guess I'm in dreamland, but in a case like this, I wish her entourage would have helped with the budget... If the three ladies in her family would have chipped in, maybe a ballgown on the modest end could have been found? They could have even added their own bling later after the dress was bought. I know this can be sticky, and maybe not everyone would have been in a position to contribute, this just seems sad to me. I don't even know the bride, and I find myself wanting to chip in. Their contribution could have been their wedding gift to her.

Randy was right that the ball gown is not for this bride, not because she does not have the figure for it, but it's just that mature brides look more youthful in the dresses that were shown to her. And she looked great in the first one and also the third one. The ball gown would give her a more matronly look and that's why Randy was not keen and also the price is above her budget.

I don’t think so. Her budget in British pounds is roughly 1600. That’s low for a big ball gown, especially if the bride wants beading and embellishments and pickups. Gok might take a less expensive dress and make it into a ball gown but the alterations wouldn’t be free. The audience tends to forget that all those customizations that Gok often does are not free and the seamstresses have to be paid for their work.

I got married for a second time at age and I wore a ball gown. It was fitted through the top and just below the waist and then it flared onto a ball gown and it even had pick ups? It was 2010. It was halter, it was white, and it was a beautiful dress. The first dress I wore was a 1993. It was a Demetrios dress, it had the puffy sleeves, plunging neckline, and it was one of the first mermaid gowns made. Mermaid gowns were just becoming a thing and I got it!! this bride can wear any dress she wants to wear, although she just seems awkward to me. She just is a very awkward woman woman.

Hubby and I paid for our wedding. I shopped for my gown by myself. It seems so peculiar to me to shop with a troop on such a personal mission. But then I was mid-30 when I married and most of these brides are 20 something with someone else footing the bill. I am 70 now and the marriage is long since done and dusted. I can't even remember what year. However, I do still regard the reception with great fondness. It was a terrific party. I've never been to a wedding before or since where the guests had that much fun. The DJ kept on playing free of charge and even the kitchen staff came into the dining room to watch. I would urge every woman to have at least one big wedding if at all possible. There is no other way to get it out of your system.

Kleinfelds is a high end store with high end prices. If she has a 2k budget for a ballgown then that may not be the best store for her. They weren’t putting her in a ballgown because they aren’t going to put her in a dress she can’t afford. She should go to David Bridal or another store with reasonable prices. It’s not Kleinfeld’s fault she has a strict budget. I think they tried their best to support her, and find some dresses in her budget. They also encouraged her to be more open minded. In the end it just comes down to the price tag.

brides with a smaller budget should consider a thrift shops, consignment shops or more budget, local shop. For example in my area we have a great shop, all new dresses, max amount is $500. My daughter bought an incredible dress there, had about $800 in alterations done and still was under budget. Instead of going for the top of the line shop, shop around for a beautiful dress in alternative places.
