A&Z #1027 - professional eater Randy Santel versus Hollow Spirits' Belly Buster 50/50 Double Cheeseburger Challenge hosted by Hollow Spirits Distillery in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My beautiful girlfriend ‪@KatinaEatsKilos‬ gave me for Christmas a trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico to spend a few days with my friend Scott and his girlfriend Mattie. We also each attempted 2 food challenges to celebrate the end of a great 2021 and the start of a hopefully incredible 2022. For food challenge event #2 to kick off 2022, we traveled to downtown Albuquerque, NW to attempt and help kick off the new Belly Buster 50/50 Double Cheeseburger Challenge w/ lots of bacon hosted by our friends Tristin, Frank, Donna with Hollow Spirits Distillery. I had 1 hour to feast on two giant 2lb 50/50 beef burger patties made with 50% short rib & brisket, and then 50% beef chorizo which is homemade by executive chef Tristin and his team. They were stacked on a giant sourdough bun and layered with Cheddar cheese slices, topped with bacon, 2 over-easy fried eggs, grilled green chilies, and some homemade Chipotle mayo sauce. The double cheeseburger was served with a side of fries topped with parmesan cheese and bacon bits. I was trying to become the 2nd challenge champion to earn my $98 meal free plus a sweet t-shirt and spot on their Wall of Fame. Thanks to Frank, Donna, Tristin, and their team for the delicious food, drinks, and hospitality!! Thanks also to the people who came that Saturday afternoon in early January to watch and meet us!! I appreciate everyone in Albuquerque, NM and all around New Mexico who watches videos and supports our hard efforts!!

Hollow Spirits' Belly Buster 50/50 Double Cheeseburger Challenge in Albuquerque, NM ($98):
- Hollow Spirits Distillery in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico is a restaurant as well!!
- The most popular menu items are their tacos, Elote Mexican street corn, and 50/50 burgers.
- For this challenge, there are two 2lb 50/50 beef burger patties stacked and layered with lots of Cheddar cheese. There is plenty of bacon served on top with New Mexican green chilies too.
- The burger patties are made with 50% beef short rib and brisket, and then 50% beef chorizo.
- There are two over-easy fried eggs on top with Chipotle mayo on the top and bottom bun.
- They use a giant freshly baked sourdough bun and the challenge includes a portion of fries topped with shredded parmesan cheese and bacon bits. There is a 1 hour time limit to finish everything. The Old-Fashioned cocktail and alcohol drank in this video was optional and just to promote Hollow Spirits.
- Winners earn the $98 cheeseburger meal free plus a sweet t-shirt and spot on the Wall of Fame!!

These people are amazing. TWO, 2 pound pattys. I once was challenged to a ONE pound burger by a buddy of mine. I ate it, but man it sat on my gut for like 12 hours. And I didn’t eat for like 15 hours before I ate the burger or after. These guys are amazing.

If a normal thicker restaurant burger costs $10-12 and is made with 0.5lbs/8oz of meat, then the meat alone justifies an $80-96 price tag from a cost of goods parity standpoint (4 lbs would be 8 servings worth). Add to that the old fashioned (which is probably like $10-15 by itself) and you're basically there. Not saying I'd pay the price (I mostly cook my own food -- it's cheaper /shrug/), but I don't think it's outside what I'd expect, especially if they're making their own chorizo.

Straight up beast mode on that "all together" burger at the end! 👊 How was the bun other than thick? Good flavor, looks locally made from a bakery. I love sour dough and NM always has some of the best..

Hey Randy been watching you for a long time and I juss wanna say you help me a lot with eating.....and by that I mean even tho im 6'3 210 pounds Im very skinny....and I dont know how to help it lol.... Hi Randy 😃 Question please? Buns...I LOVE my messy burgers with grilled onions, red, yellow, orange, bell peppers and a bit of garlic. I grill my buns in the same pan as the meat and I use mayo rather than butter for browning. So my question is, for these bigggg burgers you nosh on, are the buns grilled? If so, grilled a little or crrrisp? Just curious since I can't tell on video. Stay well, win all, and a 👋 to Katina 😃
