Yeah, I think one of the big issues with the Primarch models is that they have been designed to be paired loyalist/traitor or on a diorama base rather than as a model that stands alone in an army setting.

It's a bit of a shame that, even all this time later, they still haven't finished the whole set; Jhagatai Khan and Lion'el Jonson are both absent, and even if I'm not really a fan of either of them, still a pity they can't ALL be compared.

Imagine if we had got the 30k Roboute but he posed like the cover of Know no Fear? Massive gauntlets on, angry as hell punching a Word Bearer. Now that would have made it one of the top 5 primarch models

Best thing about the Alpharius model is that his spearhead looks like the tip of a fountain pen, proving himself mightier than all the other primarchs using swords.

Alpahrius looks like he's downward partying with his spear to me. Especially with the split in the spear. Like it's to lock the enemy's weapon to disarm them. That's very alpahrius

Gorillaman looks like he is at a photo shoot for a calendar and he was told to do a classic "CHARGE!" pose, but he can't look like he is shouting, because then everyone in the studio would faint. His expression fits better with a "come at me pose", if he was putting his left side forward and holding his sword down by his right side, still with the scabbard gripped by his left hand, he would look much more powerful. Like Dorn, who looks like he just calmly walked into a room filled by an entire company of Night Lords, slaughtered 10 of them without getting a single drop of blood on him and then stopping to coldly dare anyone to even try and kill him.

Perturabo really sells the walking tank vibe. The only way I can think of improving it would be if there was an extra, smaller gun on his shoulder pointed in the same direction as the main one to further push the tank robot look.

I really wish Sanguinius had a different pose. I love the character, and we're never going to get a 40k model for him, so we're stuck with that. And since you can't get the scenic base anymore, it just doesn't do it for me.

Constantine valdor looks like a max lvl character in raid gear

The thing I like about Rogal Dorn’s is they’ve depicted him in a scene that works on any battlefield. He’s found (or created) a lull in the fighting in his immediate vicinity and is taking the moment to assess the battlefield, calculating his next move. Like you said, it’s not just a pose, he’s just a badass.

That Sanguinius Laurel wreath....why did you have to point that out!!! I feel physically sick. From my top 3 to the bin.

With Fulgrim, I actually preferred the preview version that FW had shown before it's release. The smile was one that conveyed arrogance and pride. And on the right hand was the Legion Standard, instead of the sword.

I realize that the Lion must not have been released by the time this video was made, but he would definitely be at the top of my list! His model is amazing! I would definitely put Alpharius as coming in 2nd though, because he just looks fantastic as well.

Russ's pose is an attack, he's sprinting into a twisting attack to his right. I think its awsome.

Honestly Curze is borderline first, he is so cool and the entire model just screams "I am going to eviscerate you and laugh while doing it"

I green stuffed a nice handlebar moustache on Dorns model when I bought him, I think it's perfect.

The difference between Guilimun and Dorne is that Guilliman looks like he's trying to be cool, while Dorne looks like he just is cool.

Honestly too these models are a single representation of characters we love and know so well and I feel like it's highly unlikely any sculptor would have any luck making one model of a character we love so much that would even make 1/4 of us happy. My list is a little distracted than yours but like you it's just a bunch of little things that make you second guess the entire model. Love your videos!

Forgeworld has real difficulty making Space Wolves for some reason

I personally love the Sanguinius pose, with the exception of the hair. The whole descending like an angel of vengeance thing feels VERY Blood Angels to me as a Blood Angels player.

Sanguinius' hair looks like it was originally intended to be on a lying down model. As a matter of fact the whole model looks like it would be better lying broken on a staircase... At Horus' feet.

The Leman Russ model looks like he ran into room ready to F things up, as he enters everyone yells 'SURPRISE' and throws confetti at him and he is looking around the room super confused like 'wait what!?' Lmao

Ferrous looks amazing if you imagine that he's just hit a phenomenal home run in the Inter-Legion Baseball game

I was lucky enough to pick up an Alpharius model early during warhammer fest I believe. It was something like a month before it's full release. I gotta say, it's a really nice model to paint. There's so much detail that really doesn't need work but then so much more you can pick out if you wanted to. 10/10. Would be Alpharius again.

Leman Russ' pose makes perfect sense once you freehand a red imprint of a hand to his left cheek.

I really wish the Primarch Series weren't so monoposed. I wish they would of been less diorama and more actual tabletop miniature if that makes sense.

i think i dislike guliman the most. i just see him posing for a painting and not in a war field. and second last is gonna be horus himself. i just don't feel any power or dread or charm that i have heard him be described as. i always thought he should look more like a main character instead of a dude in power armor

The issue with Vulkan is you can’t really tell whether he’s moving backwards or forwards. If the flames were a little smaller or streaming in the opposite direction to his movement it would improve his silhouette.

The sanguinius miniature's pose is identical to a lot of imagery depicting the archangel Michael descending from heaven, sword in hand. Plenty of paintings and sculptures made and I think it's a good fit for Sanguinius

1. Perturabo. His armor is just awesome, wrist mounted cannons and the knight he’s standing on makes it even better. 2. Angron. Everything about the model is amazing. 3. Lorgar. He may be a failure but his armor and his pose are perfect. Exactly how I imagine him. 4 & 5 Dorn and Vulkan. Cool poses. Dorn’s base is a little plain but the model makes up for it, that and he is in fact easy to paint. 6. Corax 7. Horus 8. Konrad 9. Magnus 10. Alpharius/Omegon/body double 16328 11.Mortarion 12. Fulgrim 13. Russ 14. Ferrus Manus 15. Guilliman. He’s just so... “Ultramarine” 16. Sanguinius. Honestly, the model isn’t as great as I initially thought. Needs a helmet and repose.

Alpharius is such a good model its understated and ostentatious, tactical and artful, its such a mix of contradictions just like he is. Think he'll be the primarch I get. Doing an alpha vanguard space marine force so might be biased, but alpharius is just so cool, and the model does him so much justice. also thanks for such a good video.

Misty eyed in Dark Angel. Cross fingered they don't make a complete git out of the Lion or the great Khan for that matter.

I think the issue with the staticness in the dudes that angron is knocking down would be solved if the guy on the left was bent inwards instead of outwards, it'd make it look more like he just took a hard blow and like he was falling

I was happy to see Alpharious on top, my only Primarch in have painted, he looks awesome, the spear is... Fragile but some pins fixes that.

Off Balance is the right word for Ferrus Manus. The way he is positioned it is almost like he will fall from the impact when his weapons connects. Just some slight adjustements would have been fine. Leaning a little bit more forward, the Hammer strike comming from a higher angle and the feet positioned more firmly on the ground. First thing that came to mind. On with the video. :)

I havent even known that there is a model of Alpharius. He really looks the best. I think it is mostly because of the helmet, it just looks more brutal and stoic than if we could see their faces.

I absolutely love Sanguinius, both narratively and aesthetically, but IMHO his model is the worst. Aside from the reasons Kiri mentions, the awkward way that he is holding his sword/spear is absurd. It's backwards for Christ's sake. He has his arm turned in such a way that even a Primarch is going to struggle to muster up much strength with that thrust. His face also just doesn't quite look right. The Red Angel has the most potential to be the absolute most epic of all the Primarchs and FW missed the mark by a fair amount with that sculpt. Probably the best looking wings I've ever seen on a model. Russ- spot on with Kiri's observation. Model looks really good, but the pose is terrible and awkward. Ferrus Manus- Love this model, absolutely love it. His hammer looks gigantic as it should, and his facial expression is one of the best in range. I think his armor is also one of the best looking suits of all the Primarchs. Guilliman looks fantastic, only one minor issue with him is that his gladius looks pretty tiny. One thing that makes the 40K version so amazing his sword. It makes him leap off the tabletetop. Corax looks really good. Where Sanguinius' model fails in the aerial posing, Corax gets it right. His hair is a bit off and I think the painter painted him a bit too tan (Corax is supposed to be really pale), but his head looks good otherwise. Jetpack and wings are fantastic. Rogal Dorn just screams heroic. Great pose, great model, great base. Mortarion is waaaaaay up on my list (like top 3). He looks sinister, powerful and the job on his armor is hands down the best to me. His Manreaper is one the best looking Primarch weapons and the job they did on his armor is second to none. Vulkan- Amazing armor, and one the better looking faces. My only gripe is his hammer looks kinda tiny is hand. That at how much he's choking up on it make it so that he could only hit someone if they were standing right in front of him. Everything else is fantastic. Fulgrim- My only issue with Fulgrim, is I've always envisioned him as being much leaner. The model looks so thick and chunky. The base, sword, armor and small details are all quality. Angron- For me he's pretty perfect. His facial expression is just raw hatred and rage. I love the base and I think they capture movement better than any other model in the range. His chain axes are flawless IMHO. Magnus- Is really, really well done. My only gripe is his arms are too skinny in comparison to his body. His torso looks round as a barrel which gives the appearance of being overweight. The magical effects are amazing and the base is well done. Horus- Easily top 3 for me. There isn't much that I don't like about this model. He's gigantic (as he should be), the talon of horus is incredible, the base fits the model perfectly and the armor is flawless. The only minor issue I have is his facial expression. He looks pretty disinterested despite being the friggin' Warmaster. I would have preferred him either smiling sinisterly or roaring a battle cry. Lorgar- One of my least favorite. He looks like the smaller, older brother of Horus. His cape is a highlight, one of the better looking capes and the armor does look good. Conrad Kurze- Phenomenal! He looks like a creepy 40K vampire. The posing on the model makes him look like he could leap right off the base. There isn't anything I don't like about this model. How in the hell did this dude ever fight for the Emperor? The Emperor must be one of those disillusion, "not my kid" parents. Perturabo- Love this model, he looks like a damn walking tank! The armor, the weapons and the base are all fantastically done. Not one of my favorite Primarchs lore wise, but FW really hit a home run with this model. Alpharius- One of my least favorite Legions from a narrative perspective. Legion is my least favorite Horus Heresy book. That aside this model is AMAZINGLY GOOD! The pose, the spear, the armor all flawless. Jagatai Khan- I thought there was a Khan model, No? Maybe it was a just a Capt. that looked like Khan. Lion El Jonson- So I know that there is a model of the Lion. My favorite legion unfortunately produced one of the worst HH Primarch models. He looks like he's part of an 80's hair metal band. His sword is bigger than he is and his armor is awkward looking. For me its 1 Alpharius 2 Konrad Kurze 3 Horus 4 Angron 5 Perturabo 6 Mortarion 7 Rogal Dorn 8 Vulkan 9 Corax 10 Ferrus Manus 11 Fulgrim 12 Guilliman 13 Magnus 14 Leman Russ 15 Lorgar 16 Sanguinius 17 Lion El Jonson

My problem with Guilliman is that his 40K pose is better. His 30K pose is like, rearline command. His 40K pose is more "follow me men" Now, I don't know how much of that is that one of their bases is broken staturey and a slain enemy while the other is on a freaking marble pedestal, but yeah, the super fancy collector's edition forgeworld primarch shouldn't look worse off than the basic GW primarch in any aspect is the real point here.

I think having a diorama with Alpahrius' model and Dorn's model would look fucking awesome. Alpharius executing a marine at the bottom of the steps with standing at the top, recovering and getting ready.

The gun that vulkan has is place so odd because it was a gift from Ferrus Manus but he never use it so he keeps the gun more like a token of respect for his brother.

In defence of sanginuis' hair, I think he's supposed to have his hair pushed back rather than to the sides which is why if you look at the back of his head the hair is over the top of loral wreath

I have a third-hand Mortarion I had to do a fair bit of repair and conversion work on (it was in *rough* shape) and I'm not a fan of the original face. Replaced it with an Intercessor kit head that had a respirator on and a new green stuff hood and I think I actually prefer it with the replacement (previous owner attempted a half-ass customization that did not work and the original face was beyond saving). I actually kinda like the Sanguinius pose. Very "Archangel Michael fighting the devil" sort of pose, which I assumed was an intentional art reference

Enjoyed this opinion piece. The one opinion I have that I might add just for conversations sake, is, the marines on the bases of the primarch models are seperate and do not need to be represented in the final build. So for instance Angron's model I would most likely do without any marines on his base at all, and then you are just left with a perfect representation of Angron raging over rubble on the battlefield. It would clean him up quite a bit and draw all the attention on his model to him and him alone.

Happy to say I called two of the top three, Alpharius and Perturabo, who also happen to be my favourites. Thought maybe Fulgrim or Vulkan would be the third.

Perturabo gives me iron horde vibes! And also constantin is the coolest lore character, his armor is busy because he is/was like, the most decorated fighter / general in the imperium? He is my boy, Ave imperator! Also, alpharius is amazing, him having a spear is amazing oberyn martell vibes!

Totally agree with alpharius being the best. I think the only things I disagree with are fulgrim and lorgar. I feel like fulgrim's face is perfect for his personality. And to me lorgar's model is so bland. Overall though I'm surprised how much I agree with this list.
