I hope Casio will make a watch with functionalities of tide graph, moon phases, and world time all in a single watch.

There is something beautiful about the LCD technology, high refresh rates, power efficient, extremely legible. The WS1700 has everything you need without any of the drawbacks of the newer technology.

I just order a WS-1700, it´s a beautiful watch for casio lovers from the 90´s.

Meanwhile after setting all the timers and functions on the $500 watch , you have used up 1 year of battery life ! lol ! The $35 Casio is better. Very fair honest review. Ty brah.

Back in 1979, I was 11 years old. I bought my very first digital watch. I was so excited. It was a "Centaur" (this brand was one of many upcoming brands in those years), and now guess what!! IT HAD a stopwatch with 1/100s of a second!! 45 years later, the biggest watch company of the world for digital watches is releasing a topline model for $500 with a stopwatch, counting only FULL SECONDS! How pathetic.... (IF now some Casio fans want to argue with the cheap excuse, it`s because of the MIP Display, forget it! because: The Garmin Instinct watches ALSO have a monochrome MIP Display WITHOUT all the problems like Casio MIP watches! Instinct 2X has a decent stopwatch, decent timer and no delay on button presses! Just facts, no guessing here! And the battery life is better as well.) For a $500 watch, it is not enough, just to look good...there should be some reasons more to buy it. Could we at least agree on that? Jim, you did again a very good detailed and honest video. I picked up the WS1700 in gray two weeks ago. Can’t praise it enough. I’ve read some concerns regarding visibility, but I haven’t had any difficulty at all. It’s the best cheap “GShock” out there!! 😂

That WS looks badass... I think that in order to be a good casio it has to be affordable... i would not spend more than 500 usd for a Casio... and i love g shocks...

I was drooling over the big and beautiful AE-3000 with Gold toned bezel (discontinued model and rare), couldn’t resist the temptation of owning it, so I ordered it to be shipped to India from eBay US, only to realize that Customs duty is 42% of the price I paid ($50) 😞 Now I’m drooling over 1700 too, but I’ll wait for its launch in India instead of taking the 42% route !!

Nice comparison, the new rangeman is a nice watch, I like the display, I have one watch with the same display, the GBD - 200. But after seeing your videos I purchased the GW-9500 mudman and it's a better succesor for my old gw9400 rangeman. Actually I don't know why they called it a mudman. But if I have to choose one to wear in harsh conditions the mudman is the winner. But a like the new mudmasters and I am about to get one.

Which one of this and the Gw-9400 do you like more? I prefer the cleaner display and MIP technology any day of the week, but the case on the Gw-9400 is much more to my liking.

They should introduce another upgraded version of the WS-1700, by putting one of the older dual sensor modules in it, and modifying the display to include the sensor history like the SGW-300H and SGW-400H which are available for 50-60 USD. That would surely be a killer move. !!!!!!

Ithink Longitude & hemisphere is all you need for the tide & moon graph. I guess the different tide levels also have Sub levels to represent intensity. MIP displays can't do less than a second because that's the fastest they can refresh.

Beyond tough solar, mud resist, multi 6 and the standard G SHOCK features none of the extras are necessary unless you’re coast guard or special forces. I wont pay more than $300 for a G SHOCK. $35 is awesome, not yet released in my area but I’ll look out for it.🤘👍

The tide watchers I have you have to set the longitude and latitude to the sea side town you to make a note of it also works out the moon phase, but on my g shock GW7900 you have to look up the location and the time of the height tide and set the time on that part of the watch in the U.K. the tide comes in and out fast we only live a 50 miles away from Blackpool the watch are fairly accurate they are asking a £116 on a eBay for the ws 1700h I have the ws 1800h which is almost the same module

Ur joking and its harmles, but scalping here in aus for casio watches, toilet paper and everything else is an insane problem. I have people bidding on my ebay auctions and selling my item on their own ebay adds with identical photos before the auction my auction is even over. No such thing as a good deal here any more. These cheap casios just aren't worth it.

I wouldn't go so hard on the Rangeman....I don't agree completely with that community.....the only similar thing between that Rangeman and the WS-1700 is the both watches are able to show us what's the time and that's it....that's basically like a difference between my 19 years old car and a car that's made yesterday....both of them are cars, but a technology from a new car is miles ahead. In my opinion that Rangeman have a good Rangeman presence, a watch is good no matter what, on the end of a day that's a G shock, that's enough....it took a lot of knowledge to pack everything inside, and to keep it safe and functonal, there's no doubt. I would throw away that HR and fitness function in the bin, add some other features and that's it.....connectivity has to stay, it's ok but the watch should be able to operate absolutely independent of the phone no matter what, including every possible setting which should be performed without the phone. I would throw ayay that band too, and I would replace it with a carbon fiber one, which is the king of durability, and it's pretty comfortable and extremely easy to clean. That keeper is good, just tigten it up a bit with the pliers (use some towel or something, don't scratch it) Ws1700 is just doing what it should do, it shows the time, that's it, which is good, it should be doing that. Hardpass? I'll take it, the watch is nearly perfect for me. I can sell my gbdh1000 and amazfit t-rex/ Maybe even my fugly garmin instinct. THat ws-1700 is 200 AUD over here. Too much hype and markup on cheap casios
