I have about 16 videos total on the “Mickey Bobby” Channel. Rebuilding a 3.0L V6 from a 2003 Ranger. I am starting this build because my daughter wanted to post videos on KZfaq and I wanted to refresh a truck that was sitting with 229,000 miles on it. This video is my first. This video is also part of a larger series to rebuild the engine and the truck itself.

This channel name has changed to Mickey Bobby. If you search Mickey Bobby, all the videos of this rebuild go all the way until first startup and test drive. I swap out pistons, work in heads, replace all gaskets and refine the cylinders, and Crankshaft. Let me know how you like the videos.

I'm doing the same thing with my ranger, only adding some hipo mods and only taking it down to the short block. Keep the videos coming. :)

Did that with my 2002 but swapped to roller cam, rockers,and lifters. Egr delete also. It made a big difference.

That is the third cylinder from the front along the crankshaft but it is called cylinder #2 with the liquid. When I disassembled my Vulcan a few weeks ago, I accidentally #3 also but caught the mistake in time. Hopefully, your daughter got the opportunity to turn a wrench too. I let my wife do some of the work.

It does help to take the nut off the harmonic balancer prior to using the puller :)

Looking out for part 2. I got a 2000 3.0 that needs new head gasket but this makes me wanna rip the whole thing apart and rebuild

My first job with Ford, in 1999, was installing the timing chain and cam sprockets on those engines at the Lima Engine Plant in Lima Ohio. When did the code tag say this one was built?

When I replace a 3.0 I always tell junk yard I want one from a ford taurus they tend to sell them cheaper than one out of another ranger.

Engine is back in and running pretty well. It’s chugging slightly. I’m gonna be changing out the cam synchronizer. All the videos leading up to that are on my other channel (“Mickey Bobby”) just type that in the KZfaq search and you’ll see the logo. There’s about 16 videos total.

What was the condition of the harmonic balancer? In need of a new one?

I am replacing a 2005 3.0 Vulcan engine with 157K that has a spun rod bearing with a 2004 3.0 Vulcan that has 215K. If you keep the oil changed in these engines, replace the cam synchronizer ever 75K miles and don't over rev these engines they will last forever. Another thing to always remember is that a 2002 - 2008 block is different than a 2001 and older 3.0 block because of the X casting and the knock sensor on the side.

Ok that’s good to know, thanks for that. I was just thinking about changing out the cam sensor too
