Hello sir nice work, but you forgot one important thing underneath the car which is a heat reflector shield that goes on top of the center muffler. Make sure you install it otherwise heat will melt the sound proofing rubber flooring inside the car.

The jack in the spare wheel tool holder needs to be upright otherwise it will leak oil. The holder has an arrow on it indicating "this way up". A rubber ring secures the holder in the wheel well, wrapped around the screw handle and a brace across the holder - if you get my drift.

Check Atlantic British website you'll find it big rectangular plate and it can be mounted to the OEM muffler, or the body itself you'll see the mounting studs.

That came out excellent, very nice work! What store did you pick up the veneer from? I have a few pieces in my garage I'd like to refinish and that veneer you found looks like a great match to the original stuff. Also, if you ever get tired of driving it, call me first, please!

Thanks for nice comment. I got veneer from Woodcraft on West Broad near Gaskins. I’m sure they’re just a re-seller and the sticker says ‘Sauers & Company’ out of Lexington NC. www.sveneers.com Oh, and by the way, I love this RRC but I’m overflowing with vehicles so I’ll probably sell it within the next 6-12 months. If you’re serious, we can talk.

Ha! Sorry about that. I recall just using Titebond Cold Press for Veneer. It just looked and behaved like Elmers Glue. I applied a skin coat (spread around with my finders) and clamped it for several hours - whatever the instructions said. Good luck!

You should try and get some European spec front turn signal/side light amber and clear lenses for this car. The US cars just dont look quite right with the all amber housings...

Hi Richard. I totally agree. It’s on the punch list. I do like the look of the dual color lenses much better. The ‘all amber’ is just dull. Happy motoring.

Great video. Are there any interior parts that are unobtainium? I would like to pick up a Classic RR but dont want to be knee deep only to find out part X,Y, and Z are NLA
@Paul355c
@Paul355c Жыл бұрын
Hello. Unfortunately there are few parts that are available. This could and is changing slowly as the aftermarket tools-up as the popularity increases on the Classics. As you know, for popular cars like a 1965 Mustang, you can find every single part in the marketplace. Even Defenders have a decent supply of parts out there. The Classic, however, has only recently become super popular so we’re all waiting for the aftermarket to catch up. The interior parts are the most unobtainium of all, unfortunately. Good luck and I hope you have a nice holiday season.

Greetings- I appreciate the videos you share. They are full of quality and content. I’m working to restore the wood pieces on my RRC - and found this insightful. Did you use a chemical product to strip the existing gloss coating from each piece before covering them in the walnut veneer? If so please share those details.

Hello. I just ‘chipped-off’ as much as possible with a chisel and then used a sander to remove anything that remained. I hope that helps.

Hello. I wish I could provide some advice. I also had some puffiness but since I had two vehicles to make one, I just picked the best two from the four. They were probably a 7.5/10 in terms of condition. Good luck with your project.

Hello--I am in the process of restoring an 1989 Range Rover Classic. I need to remove the center console from the transmission tunnel but cannot figure out how to do this? Any advice?
@Paul355c
@Paul355c Жыл бұрын
Hello. It’s truly a tedious process. I seem to remember that it comes out as one large unit. Remove the felt-lined glovebox and I think there are two hex screws under there. Keep track of wires, relays and grounds. Remove the wood veneer pieces and there are two screws in the mid-area. If you have an automatic transmission, the wood vaneer piece pops off and there is a nut down in there (deep well socket) to allow you to remove the shifter. Then I think there are two screws up toward the front beside your knees. Good luck!

Did you paint the dashboard? If so what color?
@Paul355c
@Paul355c 9 ай бұрын
Hello. I didn’t paint the dash but I hear of others doing that. As with most paint, prep is key. It will have plenty of texture already so you shouldn’t need to abrade it much if at all but make sure it’s clean if any oils or vinyl treatments by people in the past. Good luck.

Hello. For my situation, I decided to purchase a donor vehicle that had a better interior than my build vehicle. For every particular part, I looked at the donor and decided if it might have a better part or not. With this process, I was able to ‘cobble together’ the best possible result. The aftermarket companies are starting to make more and more of the RRC parts even though they aren’t as far along as parts for Defender. Places you could check include Atlantic British and Rovers North. Others exist too. Good luck with your project.

I agree that the one I have is toast. I haven’t gone looking for one and since the whole philosophy of this build is ‘save what you got instead of buying new’ I will probably take it out and just sit in front of the TV some night and do a craft project with a three-hair brush and some white paint. Another thought is using a label maker to recreate the arrows and just apply them. Thanks for comment.

@@Paul355c yes but you can't buy this part new and it appears to be stuffed on every car. It took me 3 years to find a new one. It's bizarre that so many parts for these cars are unobtainable even now with the skyrocketing popularity and prices. I enjoyed your series a lot. Congrats on the result

@@RoveFans thank you. I checked and I don’t have that part laying around. I did notice, however, that the muffler has a heat shield welded to the top of it which creates a 3/4” air gap. It’s obviously something that the exhaust builder did when installing the muffler because you can see the manual tack welds. I still want the heat shield you describe. I’ll probably make it myself as I have sheet aluminum and rolls of heat barrier. It will be a fun weekend project. Thanks for pointing this out for me!
