I agreed with Rae so hard when she said that growing up as a dancer hindered her confidence in her looks. I'm a professional dancer and it feels like there is no way to grow up in that environment, surrounded by dance studio mirrors and not have low body confidence. I love dancing and will never give it up, but I strongly believe that being a dancer and having body dysmorphia go hand in hand.

Okay, I think that we can all agree that the ratings in this video are largely bogus and the reasoning behind them even asinine. After thinking things over, a general formula that I've decided upon is that each virtue-signalling rating is actually (n-5)2 of the rating that most people would actually give these people. For example, an unrealistically high rating of 7.5 is actually (7.5-5)2 = 5, an average score. This would explain why almost everyone seems to be a 7.5, an oddly specific number at first glance. Perhaps subconsciously, each rater applies the same level of bullsh*t to save face and feelings in the same proportion, which eventually evens things out until you start to look at the persons who were rated 10s. Obviously, using my formula these people would still be dimes but we all know that this is not the case in reality. The first man at 2:00 was given vastly overinflated scores of 7.5. Using my rubric, he would actually be a five which seems more realistic. He was also given a 10 but I'm throwing this out for complete inaccuracy. I would put him closer to a 4 because of his age but that's neither here nor there. 2. The young, short Hispanic man 2:18 was rated 7, which gives him a realistic score of 4 and I agree. 3. Lesbian at 3:20 was given 10, which cannot be translated in the usual way but she is very pretty from the front (they only show her in profile here, a tremendous disservice). I would say that she's a 6.6. 4. 4:08 Short man in hat was given 6.5 and 7, putting him at a 3.5 average rating which we can assume is owing to his being so short combined with his teeth. Here I realised that they are a lot more honest with the men than the women. 5. 4:43 Woman in tan jacket rates herself as a six, and is given a rating of 7.5 which is equivalent to 5, an average, accurate rating. The talent scout man is full of sh*t. 6. The green goth at 5:50 is ostensibly unattractive and is aware of this, as are the over-placating judges who give her an 8. 8 would be 6, which is still too high as I would place her at 3. 7. 6:35 White woman who likes to self-identify as being a gender queer goblin is unbearable. She was given a 7, which is actually a fair rating of just below average at 4. 8. Lady in leather 7:36 was given scores of 7.5 and 8, or 5 and 6 in reality. She's not bad looking (some might say despite the weight) so 5 is accurate. Americans tend to view attractiveness as though it's a grading system where a score like 7.5 means 75% or a C. They think that they are giving an average score; neither failing nor exceptional. We know however that attractiveness, like other natural traits, is normally distributed with a mean of about 5 and a standard deviation of (let's say) 1 digit. This means that approximately 68% of people fall between 1 standard deviation (4-6 in attractiveness) and 95.5% of people fall between 2 standard deviations (3-7, if I understand this properly) so a score of 7.5 is actually extremely high and kinda laughable. The people doing the rating are the best looking people in the video, especially the Asian lady who is very attractive but short so I'll give her a score of 7. A lot of shorter men might rate her higher because shortness would be an attractive trait for a woman in their eyes but as a 5'7 woman who is interested in fashion, taller and skinnier are always preferable. This is a personal bias of mine so you can view my ratings through this lens and take the appropriately sized grain of salt.

At the end where the “rater” had to put themself in the line I would’ve told everybody to make a circle and then put myself between the “worst-looking” and the “best-looking”.

I used to be fat and "ugly" (don't like the word, let's say unattractive in the eyes of society) all throughout my teens up to early 20's. And I'm actually grateful for that, as it built my character and allowed me to focus on my inner qualities, values and ambition. I truly believed that my looks weren't connected to my self worth (and they aren't) and I was happy. I'm in my late 20's now and conventionally attractive, lost a bunch of weight, etc. And in a weird way I hate it. I find myself looking for validation for my looks, I'm afraid of aging, etc. Eventhough I still know my body composition and bone structure shouldn't have anything to do with my self worth, once you get this "pretty privilege" you're afraid of losing it. But you will lose it one day, or maybe you never had it. And that should be OK. Being a 10 doesn't say anything about who you are as a person. A bunch of muscles, fat and bones don't define your worth. Grading people on looks is effin weird to me. I hate the fact that we live in such a performative woke society but we're more looks obsessed than possibly ever before.
