Tauros was an absolute TANK. Very underrated and underappreciated for his endurance and stubbornness to quit. Watch his performance in the Orange League.

I feel like your opinion of Bayleef would have been even more heightened of the writers for the show had actually followed through with the original plan of making Pokemon Heroes a part of the anime and Ash capturing Latias and Latias eventually becomes a sort of rival with Bayleef because the 2 were supposed to constantly fight over Ash.

Bulbasaur is my favorite Ash Pokemon. And seriously, in "Island of the giant Pokemon" which is actually one of the best Pokemon episodes ever for me, it shows how each one of the starters ash has feels. Pikachu knows that ash didn't abandon them while Charmander knows Ash is a trainer it can trust. Squirtle also shows how he is still a prankster when he says "maybe they got eaten by a scary Pokemon" just joking around. But Bulbasaur says "They abandoned us" which is actually very heartbreaking. In episode 10 of season 1, Bulbasaur and all his friends were abandoned by their trainers and he grew up like that. Ash was a trainee he thought he could trust, but when that happened he felt it was always gonna be like that. That he would always be abandoned. And now on an island, with no protection, to die. Ash's Snivy was a total badass tho I remember one episode of the anime where Oshawott, Pikachu and Axew were about to get smashed by a wild Simisear's Fire Punch when a Vine wrapped it's arm and the camera pans upwards to show Snivy, standing on a tree branch, enshrouded in shadows, smirking at Simisear and doing the 'Uh uh uh!' finger wag. Pignite's placement should've easily been Torkoal IMO. Waste of a fire type for Ash's Hoenn team, cried more than a newborn baby, and hardly ever won matches. The final nail of the coffin was the stupidity of using him against Tobias instead of Charizard or Muk. He's just a waste of space that should never have been associated with Ash to begin with.

Let's see.... Ranking Ash's Pokemon is a pretty tall order, but here goes. xD I'll only really give explanations to the chunks of the list rather than individual Pokemon in order to keep it relatively short. From least favorite to most: Unfezant, Beedrill, Raticate, Tauros, Kingler, Primeape - Unfezant I just don't like. I also just have this disconnect with Pokemon Ash didn't use all that much or had for very long. Torkoal, Glalie, Boldore, Poipole, Aipom, Palpitoad - This is the group I just...never really cared about, whether I didn't care for the Pokemon species itself or the personalities or a mix of the two. The rest from here are all Pokemon I like. Whether it's their personality, the Pokemon species or a combination of both. As well as their interaction with Ash. This next chunk, though, is about a bunch of Pokemon with personalities that I thought were rather one-note or gimmicky or something along those lines. Maybe I found them a bit annoying/distracting at times or that they didn't receive the development I thought they deserved. Or, in the case of Quilava, I just think he became a bit generic over time. Fletchinder, Gible, Leavanny, Torterra, Donphan, Scraggy, Gliscor, Noctowl, Lapras, Corphish, Swellow, Staraptor, Heracross, Noivern, Quilava, Pikachu, Totodile This final chunk are the Pokemon I absolutely loved. These are the Pokemon that got all kinds of character development or had so much personality that I just really liked. I also have a deep love for Ash's "powerhouse" Pokemon. Y'know, the big, physically strong fighters that often made up the backbone of a lot of his teams. I always loved it whenever those big guys showed up for a fight that was the obvious cornerstone and main spotlight of a major battle. Whenever they fought, the battle was great about 90% of the time. Pignite, Goodra, Snorlax, Bayleef, Pidgeot, Krookodile, Snivy, Oshawott, Infernape, Squirtle, Butterfree, Bulbasaur, Hawlucha, Sceptile, Greninja, Buizel, Charizard

Because of ash’s snivy, she has became my favourite Pokémon ever

seriously mystic krookadile was my favorite part of unova. Each episode I was waiting for that sandile to show up again. I was always on the edge of my seat when they were battleing and I actually yelled “YESSSSSS” when ash caught him. I could not have asked for a better moment for krokerok to evolve especially during the Pokémon league. It was truly my favorite unova Pokémon and in my top three for favorite Pokémon of all time. He deserved a higher place and also you need to consider the build up to his actual moment of being caught. I think that krookadile and ash had a really good impact on not just me but everyone on how Pokémon can develop relationships with there trainers. Just like frokie. But hey that’s just a theory A GAAAAAAAME THEORY

Ash’s Poipole told Ash that it wanted to stay behind with its own kind, it was Poipoles idea and choice and Ash was a good trainer to respect its wish.

I can’t rank ALL of Ash’s pokemon so I will rank one of them by Region Kanto: Bulbasaur, Charizard may be more powerful but I just really like Bulbasaur for some reason. Johto: Heracross, you need more screentime pal. Hoenn: Sceptile, this plant pet was a big “fuck you” towards Tobias’ Darkrai, and I love it. Sinnoh: Infernape, Ash’s best pokemon imo. Unova: Krookodile, a frikkin powerhouse. Kalos: Greninja, no shit he is awesome. Alola: Lycanroc, YOU. ARE THE REASON I LIKE SUN & MOON MORE THAN BLACK & WHITE. Galar: Gengar, I haven’t seen the latest Pokemon anime but I heard he caught a Gengar and Gengar is my favorite pokemon besides Bulbasaur.

Is it just me, or does the Pokemon Anime have a problem with Ash and water types? Squritle: Used, but never evolved, and was sent to training. Kingler: Used once, evolved, then rarely used again. Lapras: Used, but released. Totodile: Used, but never evolved. Corphish: Used, but never evolved. Buizel: Used, but never evolved. Oshawott: Used, but never evolved. Palpitoed: Rarely used, and never evolved Greninja: Caught early, evolved fully, achieved a new form, then gets released. And to top it off, he doesn't have a single water type pokemon in his Alola team.

I’m glad you miss pidgeot too. I always felt like pidgeotto was really underrated. It always did what ash wanted, though ash never really showed it any affection until snow way out (EVERYONE cried), and in general just seemed like a good Pokemon. It knew what it was supposed to do, it didn’t even resist being caught... can you imagine that day, in that pidgeotto‘s life? Hmm, walking around, looking at stuff, eating some worms though they don’t exist, oh hey I’m in a ball, gosh i sure hope i don’t have a family to feed or they‘re screwed, should probably do whatever this asshat tells me to since I’ve got nothing better to do, I’ve been injured, this dipshit sent me out to battle again anyway, can’t remember if I ever got to a Pokemon center, guess I should give him a hug, now it’s time to go. Seriously, ash was a jerk to him. I’m surprised he didn’t take the chance to leave sooner. A lot of that boils down to the creators not wanting him to have a fully evolved Pokemon besides charizard. I get that it’s easier to make his team look cool and cute with something like pidgeotto rather than pidgeot, but it pisses me off that all the time he was there, he was considered useless or lackluster. People say he was a waste of space without acknowledging the fact that he was only supposed to participate in a battle long enough to weaken the opponent before basically prat falling and letting Pikachu move in for the kill. Honestly, they even did that to charizard. Freaking charizard lost to the dragonite on the orange islands, just so Pikachu could claim that victory. As if Pikachu needed more spotlight, now it seems none of ash‘s Pokemon can win a battle in their own right without Pikachu taking over, unless the whole episode was about their character development or they’re about to evolve. It’s not pidgeotto‘s fault that the creators want Pikachu to shine and everyone else has to be pushed aside to make that happen
