Actually Glaie did pretty well in the Hoenn league. Never lost a battle, either tied or won. And it managed to beat a Charizard and Metang. And Torkoal was able to hold its own with Brandon's Registeel nearly winning.

@@deathxanamon7211 Yeah, swap Iron defense with protect and I can see it. It and Glaie deserved to get a solid win during the battle frontier arc, the rest of Ash's Hoenn team got at least one. What makes it worse is that Glaie never got to be used in the Sinnoh league and Torkoal got pretty much one shot by Darkrai.

I think it was due to the writers wanting to showcase Ash as a versatile trainer going up against the Frontier brains by using his current Pokémon and past Pokémon together. Like his battle with Spencer included Heracross, Swellow and Sceptile and his battle against Annabel included Tauros, Pikachu and Corphish.

I think this guy just has a personal vendetta against Torkoal. Torkoal was always put in against tougher opponents and just has a bad ratio. We’re looking at quality of opponent not overall loss.

He actually did pretty well in the Hoenn League from I remember. Took out Charizard, tied with Tyson’s Sceptile and I’m pretty sure it took 1 of Morrison’s Pokémon too. He just caught it as a Snorunt so late in the series but it didn’t get much development.

@@SS4Luxray Yea I remember thinking it was kinda out of left field when he caught snorunt. At the time Ashs teams werent really that interesting type wise and it felt like Glalie was one of the first to spice up the formula

@@dericplummer9272 I actually felt that way too, especially since it was his first Ice type. It’s moveset kinda sucked tho: Ice Beam, Double Team, Headbutt and I believe Frost Breath. Ash should’ve had it learn: Ice Beam, Rapid Spin, Crunch and Water Pulse. And it would’ve been better had he caught Snorunt before his battle with Tate and Liza.

@@dericplummer9272 and that just proves the writers didn’t know how to balance Ash’s team in Hoenn. Given him 3 Pokémon all weak to rock was silly. Instead of Snorunt, he should’ve got a Trapinch that only evolved into Vibrava or if not Trapinch, then he should’ve gotten Whismur and had evolve all the way up to Exploud since Ash didn’t really have a tank in Hoenn.

Actually no, Swellow was his ace up until Sceptile appeared. Treecko and Grovyle both didn't really do that much, but when Sceptile appeared, it was the ace

@@albinozoidberg3382 Yes, but thanks to Treecko and Grovyle, Ash was able to win against Brawly and Norman. Grovyle is also one of Ash's Pokemon that helped him make it to the Top 8 at the Ever Grande Conference.

@@imunchgrass3252 this may be true, but Swellow did more to help Ash. Ash was able to beat Winona and Tate and Liza with the help of Swellow. Swellow also defeated Juan's Whiscash while Grovyle didn't take down any of Juan's Pokemon, even though he had a type advantage. Swellow also performed better at the Grande Conference compared to Grovyle, defeating Katie's Venomoth and Scizor, tying with Morrison's Gligar and defeating Tyson's Hariyama and Donphan. Grovyle only defeated Katie's Walrein, Morrison's Steelix and helped Glalie take out a Quilava
