Sunderlands support is absolutely unbelievable. Really cant get over how a club who has been through what they have over the years can still generate that many supporters.

Sunderland fan here. Looks like the Championship is generating some great attendances across the board…..my view is it is a brilliant competitive league. Not sure if the data is available but TV viewing figures of covered matches would be really interesting!

The problem with North west clubs outside of the premier league is purely number of clubs , added to that it is the hotbed of football in the UK with 4 massive clubs within a relative small distance , these clubs drain the surrounding areas of support, the kids growing up now only want to watch the premier league and not their local club, this is what happened to the likes of Oldham, Rochdale, Bolton, Bury went out of business even , next on the radar will be Blackburn, Preston and Blackpool , clubs like ipswich, Norwich and even Sunderland attract more as there isnt much in terms of competition geographically, yes I know newcastle is next door but theres not much else

Dude, I just found this channel. And I love it. This was a very interesting video. Im a Liverpool fan. But i have some teams I follow around the lower leagues, Wrexham, Leicester, (and almost any team in the northwest Preston, Burnley, Bolton, wigan, Blackburn, Blackpool) mostly because I just wanna see the area become more successful. Home Park has been sold out every game. Our max capacity is less than you stated due to some building reg error in the upper grandstand. If you don’t have a season ticket or a membership, it’s pretty tough getting a ticket!

Sunderland support is next level - for the play off final for the Championship last year at Wembley, tickets were like gold dust - there were 60,000 sold and that was after two batches of ticketing allocations; and would have sold many more - but it wouldn't really have been fair on Wycombe having 12,000

Years ago went to watch the Foxes away at Blackburn it was when Dalglish had taken on the managership. Pre GPS and unable to see signage for the ground. We stopped and asked a local how to get to the ground. Which one he said, Man Utd or Liverpool? Couple or so years later Rovers were champions.

I would add that Leicester probably benefit more than most from high away fan ticket sales, given their geographical position at almost the centre of England. Very few of the Championship clubs are more than 100 miles away.

Should be noted for Plymouth that the upper section of the Mayflower stand is at reduced capacity at the moment, so that % would be much higher if it was full.

Wrong about Sheff Weds does not hold that anymore holds 34-35k max now. Been so many seats removed and restrictions in place now.

Thank you Ben for this video, I remember asking for this recently. I'm not happy with how empty the Graham Taylor Lower Stand has been since QPR & Plymouth (H) Hopefully you do it again towards the end of the season around February March or April time.

I do like Ewood Park... but I feel we could do with a smaller stadium or close off the upper tiers completely and use the lower tiers instead to make it look a bit more appealing...

A lot depends on how many away fans there are, some Clubs fans dont bother to travel.

We’ve come a long way from being lucky to get 15,000 at Portman Road. It’s going to be a championship fortress and teams are gonna find it hellish (Particularly Norwich)!

No grounds can fill up - there needs to be a gap between the home and away fans.

I think we’d be hitting more closer to 45k if the away fans were back down in the bowl, which I think is happening next season (Birmingham fan throwing the flare probably done us a favour!) there’s a few thousand restricted seats in the upper tier, we’re gradually increasing towards the current 46k max each game.

Proof in the pudding that Cardiffs stadium is FAR to big for them. And secondly they only fill out when Swansea visit.

Bristol City must make their numbers up, Ashton Gate holds 27k and there was no way on earth close to 18k Bristol City fans when we went there last Tuesday. And with our ground, we have restricted capacity in the Mayflower stand thanks to the whoppers in the council, so effectively our capacity is 16800, we sell (with away) 16200 on average, every home game has been sold out for home fans

We (Leicester) need a bigger stadium been sold out every year 50-60k would be perfect

Surprised how good some of these attendances are. Problem @Millwall is that they allocate 4,000 to Away fans and if only 1,000 turn up that,[roportionately, seriously, affects the percentage.

Last Saturday Leeds United decided to put excess tickets on general sale. They previously only sold tickets to members which was ridiculous.

As a Bristol City fan i feel our attendances are pretty shameful. When you think how big Bristol is compared to Sunderland its shocking, fair play to Sunderland fans.

Sheffield wednesday never have sold out every week in their history. In fact they have only averaged over 30.000 in 3 seasons in the last 68 years 30120 in 1960 /30200 in 1967 /31461 in 1968. Remember their ground had a capacity of over 55000 up to 1989. So yes they have decent support never mind the prices they are not massive like Sunderland /leeds in fact I think they are about the 8th best average attendance in the championship this season .

Not sureThe Riverside holds 33k now used to be 34k but they put the tv in and gantry about 5 years ago which reduced it.

20.000 on season ticket waiting list at leeds. Im a member only managed to get 1 ticket so far. This season. Why can't they open the corner up. Put a bloody fence and net between fans. Crazy. Away fans very rarely sell out.

Boro average 26k of their 33k capacity. Now most away fans bring 500k-1000k and then we have a HUGEEEEE segregation between each fan base.

Sorry Ben, completely flawed analysis. My ground holds 100 people and its filled every week so that's 100% but their ground holds 40,000 and is filled to 39,500 that's just 98.7%. And we rank higher. Stats aint your strong point. Has to be weighted by capacity.
