Tbh Hojo was always crazy. I don't think there was ever a moment where he was legit sane. Nor a moment where he truely valued life of any kind other than his own. And even then he put his mind in Weiss's body by uploading his mind into the Shinra Network ao yea. Man has been coco for cocoa puffs since the very first moment he was introduced and long before that as well.

They did Roche dirty. They built him up to "something" and then made him a robe. They could've had Broden be the person we see turned into a robe, but nope, you get an experimentation scene, then a single stage boss fight. Cool. The final boss of this game has more stages than all of the Roche fights in the series.

They've done such a good job with the characters. If they want you to love them, you love them. If they want you to hate them, you hate them. That requires not just good writing, but careful considerations about how you want to portray the characters and the interactions between them. Also Barret is AT LEAST as "whooooooooooo"!
