I think Wheein’s vocal talent is mostly appreciated by people with training and expertise in the area, because technique-wise she’s the best. There’s no need to sugarcoat it. But it’s normal for regular ears and fans to notice vocals like Solar’s and Hwasa’s, because Solar has volume and Hwasa has all whole lot of fucking rich color in her voice. Hwasa’s vocals are my personal fave in Mamamoo, but I have to give credit where and when due. Wheein’s vocals are the best in the group.

Mamamoo already ace when it comes to singing. I also thinks he is not implying that her raspy vocals and vocal cracks(on purpose) are wrong, but the TENSION in her vocals can damage her vocal cords. Overpushing the high note can really damage her vocals.

I think it's totally fair to have vocal analyses of a group like Mamamoo. They're not just kpop singers--they're musicians and professional vocalists who are all highly trained. It's totally aesthetic preference who you prefer because they're all beautiful singers but it's really interested to hear breakdowns of their talent bc there's so much there. Personally, I'm so impressed by Wheein. I think she is as close to perfect as someone can get and I love her style and versatility. But Hwasa and Solar are incredible as well. And even though it's not as technically proficient, Moon could still out-do a lot of lead vocalists in other groups and I love her lower register R&B sound. So at the end of the day, I'm a huge fan of all four.

All of Mamamoo are the perfect vocalists, they’re just different, which is what makes their combination so perfect. Yeah, a lot of people don’t notice Wheein’s vocal skill because she’s singing next to a power house like Solar and an attractive stylizer like Hwasa. I admit I was one of them that didn’t notice, which is why it’s not just her vocal skill alone that made me bias her, but her personality and humor as well.

Wheein’s falsetto/whistle note in Woo Hoo wasnt included. Sad. love all the girls and they all sang awesome （╹◡╹）♡

17:50 When you listened to the part saying "Hwasa's Issues" it may seems like nothing is wrong with her way of singing, but you can slightly hear some type of vibrato in her voice towards the end of her belts (especially in the immortal songs medley). Those kind of vibration in the voice while belting means there is tension in the vocal chord which is unhealthy for the vocal chord itself even though it is a stylistic choice of hers. Its not saying her singing is bad/wrong in those songs, but i believe he is just pointing out parts that could be harmful to hwasa's voice

I actually don’t agree with him on the higher range. Wheein and Hwasa ties more than Wheein and Solar. Wheein has done very high notes in ”With My Tears”, ”Flower”, ”WooHoo”, ”My Star” etc

There’s no reason WheeIn isn’t the best one in the industry when it comes to vocal. The control, the technique, the emotion, the range, the healthy way she treats her vocal chord, the arrangement she makes to use the right technique (belt, falsetto, head, chest, etc.), and also the way she harmonizes with others without overshadow them. Her versatility and those details in her the vocal is the reason I kept going back to the performance vids.

As a old moomoo.mamamoo is like a burger.. WHEE IN is the ham,she is the most important, she is the backbone,her voice suit in every member..HWASA is the toppings, her voice added flavor to the song, that why her voice is unique.solar is the top bread,her voice wided the song and moon is in the bottom because she has the low voice that suit...the perfect burger..hehehe

Personally when I started listening to Mamamoo I loved hwasa’s tone so much (still do), she really just sounded so unique to me. Then when I started diving in more I noticed wheein more, her tone is so gorgeous and the fact that she can hit high notes surprised me since it was usually solar that I noticed doing that at first. Wheein really got me when I listened to starry night, that song really made me see that she can hit notes and I loved the part where her and hwasa were back to back singing and the part where she harmonised with moonbyul in the bridge before moon started rapping. I loved hearing those parts a lot. I love solars voice I felt bad when I realised I only really saw her as a high note girl because she doesn’t just hit high notes she actually does have such a nice voice in her normal tone. I just never noticed. Moonbyuls tone is actually my favourite I love deeper tones. Although I like her rapping more than singing I love that both her voices are different like she raps deeper than her singing voice.

She sings lows a lot. She accesses the low range that she is capable of which keeps her lower registered performances consistent. Consistency is key. Stylistically, I would understand the Hwasa>Moonbyul>Solar>Wheein ranking. But again, the video was about technicality and vocal ability, not vocal style. 15:26 Singing can most definitely be assessed and has a "good" method of doing it. It is not 5h!tty to understand and call out technique or the lack thereof. Telling a singer their inability to apply technique is not an insult. Something to remember, technique ≠ good singing. To some extent, technique is appreciated but technique is never the final category in categorizing a "good singer". If the ranking was titled "best singer in Mamamoo" or "best artist in Mamamoo", it would arguably be Hwasa. I attended voice lessons and having a standard voice that sounds "perfect" is hard to do but making it stylish like hwasa does is actually harder. Doing those intentional growls, distortion and raspiness is very hard unless you have great control!

For me there is no best in Mamamoo...but I think that Wheein is easily one of the best 3rd generation vocalists. Like, she's up there with Wendy(Red Velvet). 🥰 Moonbyul is a better singer than she's given credit for but it's harder for people to recognize because her overall range is smaller than the other members of Mamamoo. This is where judging their voices based on having listened to them often becomes important. Every member of Mamamoo has changed a lot vocally since 2014 and the vocal clips people often make judgments about their vocals are generally from early on in their careers. At this point I would only consider clips from 2019-present to be a fair way to assess their voices. One reason old clips are often used for analysis is that there is a massive divide in the Mamamoo fandom that almost no one really acknowledges but it exists and it affects reactions, analysis, etc of Mamamoo. Basically, there is an "old Mamamoo" camp, which is 2014-2018, and a "new Mamamoo" camp, which is 2019-present. Prior to the end of 2019 the fandom was already beginning to naturally divide but the release of Reality in Black and Hip really drove a deep wedge between each half of the fandom. The pandemic kept people at home in 2020 and many discovered K-Pop during that time. So Hip was the entry to Mamamoo for a lot of people. That is important because when you start with the most recent comeback you tend to go backwards to the next newest and so on. I've found that the older Moo Moos tend to recommend older performances because those clips defined their experience with Mamamoo and newer equally iconic and important clips get ignored. Like, the 4 Seasons concerts are super important as a display of Mamamoo's current vocal capabilities as well as their Hip era & Aya era appearances on Sketchbook and their comeback show, Monologue(it was their prize for winning Queendom). In the interest of fairness I should point out that the newest performance in the video was from a Solarsido video that's about two months old...but there is a huge gap between that and the next newest performance, which was the Hip era Sketchbook performance and over a year before. But that's only two newer performance in a sea of old Immortal Songs and variety appearances. I'm kind of in the middle of the Moo Moo camps, as I became a fan at the beginning of the 4 Seasons era but didn't truly stan until 2020. I love both old and new songs and performances but I feel like folks put the old stuff on a pedestal and only grudgingly acknowledge the rise of new classics. Like, your first Mamamoo video was of the Killing Voice Medley and it's become the go to intro to Mamamoo video whereas a few months ago the Immortal Songs medley would have been recommended instead.

This is a technical ranking based on measurable aspects of their singing, it’s not opinion based. I think people get confused- saying someone is technically the best in a certain thing is just saying they’re the most proficient. Wheein might technically have the best and healthiest lows, but Hwasa might sound better to you because of her stylistic approach. Ranking lists get a lot of heat because people think theyre telling then that their opinion is wrong. If your bias is not ranked technically the best, that doesn’t mean anything. Stylistically you just prefer that persons voice. But people need to understand that the art of singing CAN be measured and skill can be determined, it just shouldn’t have any impact on your preference. It’s just informative, if anything, and has value in the profession. Also, I see people get upset when flaws in their bias’ singing is pointed out. No one is perfect (even Wheein 😂) and pointing out the flaws in a purely academic way is in no way saying they’re a bad singer. In fact, you can see that some of the girls have worked out the problems he’s pointed out over time. For ex., Hwasa def had wayyy more control issues in the beginning (Solar did as well)- she used to make more mistakes live (very minor, but if you pay attention you can hear), but she’s become much smarter as the years go by. If her voice isn’t all there in that performance, she won’t force or push because that’s when they rear their head. That’s truly the mark of great singers who don’t just rest on their laurels and natural talent, but keep striving to improve.

Those times you heard their voices in your right ear is because there are videos like that on the 1theK channel where you hear the artist's voice in your right ear and the instrumental in your left ear. I dont remember what they're called, but this way you can choose to hear the artist's voice without the instrumental and the other way around!

Wheein actually has the wider range among them then bwasa I am a fan since the beginning of their career and I can tell u wherein is the best she can do aloooooot with her voice she has a lot of colour and can slay every genre and her delivery is insane but again for new fans or someone who doesn't know much ABT mamamoo hwasa can be the one to cut the attention which is understandable her voice is unique

I love that with this group you can re-listen to a song you haven't heard in a little while and completely rediscover their vocal talent. I think my differences of opinion come from his choices of sample choices. He surely listened to more than he showed, but a lot of it was their older performances at this point. It's fascinating to watch them in immortal songs -> concert series -> queendom/dingo kv. I don't think you can count Solar messing around in the green room as a knock on her performance ability and while Hwasa was known earlier on for doing more upper range riffs, Wheein I feel based on her various work could probably over take her with her technique if she wanted to...it's just not usually her stylistic choice. But always a fun discussion to have especially when the end result is we love them all.

As a moo since 2015, I agree each members have their own strength & I know people have their own opinions. For me, I agree that Wheein has a great technique like she sounds so good from the beginning but just underated. Wheein produce honey voice & soothe my ears a lot when she start singing because it’s very clean & soft. As for Hwasa she has a good lower voice I personally prefer her voice because it suit my taste I just felt that she is very playful when singing so it really make me attracted to her voice even more(my bias). As for Solar she’s good at belting sometimes kinda overpush but who cares she said that she singing out loud bcs she felt people might not hear her sing & she had a very clear voice I don’t know how to describe her but I like her when she sing a song like disney song she kinda fit that kind of genre. Moonbyul the best singer instead of her position as a rapper. She already proved her singing & moos like it when she sing out of nowhere or doing harmonies with the members I love her deep voice and low tone. They are perfect because each one of them complete each other. If you took out one member they won’t sound like Mamamoo that why we need all of them cus they are Mamamoo who produce quality. Mamamoo only had 4 members but sounds like they’re 7 people 🤣

I have to say that I am very surprised not to see more people considering Solar as the best vocalist. They all have wonderful voices and they are a fantastic group. But Solar reaches ranks the others will never reach. Her power is incredible and many teachers and musicians have praised her unique and incredible voice. I see that it is very, very underrated. My ranking is: 1-. Solar 2-. Wheein 3-. Hwasa 4-. Moonbyul.

I appreciate the positive vibes in this & I also can respect and agree with your list at the end :) I do think rather than saying Hwasa's vocal stylizations are bad, he was more alluding that in some performances (espec earlier years & in times where she's been kept super busy with activities) she does sing with tension and forgos some healthier technique in favor of getting that preferred smokey tone she's known for which long-term could impact the longevity of her vocal health. Wheein is my bias overall and I do believe she is the best in technique & healthy singing. Bc of this, I think it makes sense that she is the backbone holding down main melodies while Hwasa can inflect her stylizations, Solar can do her powerful vocalizations & Moonbyul can do the lower harmonies and raps over. Solar is such a complex singer in that she just goes for it with her everything no matter the style and can surprise us. Case in point her new OST 'Adrenaline' showed a new side to her + new approaches to tackling her higher range. Byul truly has a solid foundation and you can def hear the improvement in her technique/voice/confidence in recent times since she started vocal training so I'm a little disappointed he didn't include clips showcasing that -- but I get it he's new to the group and likely unaware. Between all 4 women though, it def comes down to your own mood & aesthetic preferences for genres and tones bc they all are wonderful.

I appreciate how you broke down the video! I understand where they are coming from, looking at Mamamoo’s singing more from a technical standpoint and from that perspective I pretty much agree with them but I prefer your way of looking at it. I also don’t see Hwasa’s raspiness and voice cracks as a negative because it gives her songs a unique flavor, even if it is not “technically perfect” and that is something I really like about them, that they are true to themselves and their literal and metaphorical voice. I am very biased towards Wheein because her voice was one of the main things that got me into Mamamoo at the beginning but I like everyone’s style and how they play off of each other. I personally don’t think I would like Mamamoo as much as I do if they were “better technical singers” but lost some of their personal touches and flair. Anyway, I really appreciate their video and your reaction and I’ll be waiting for more Mamamoo :)

Everybody has preferences, of course, and I can see why the guy in the vid had wheein as # 1 in almost all his categories, considering he was basing his lists on technique. I can also see where you're coming from with your own categories and where the girls are placed on them. I think the only thing for me that differs from your lists is in stylization. I'd put Hwasa at 1st, and Moonbyul at 2nd, then WheeSun at 3rd (tied). I _know_ Byul isnt the group's strongest singer, and she's not even my bias, Wheein is, but hearing her sing makes me the happiest! Like when she did that one cover last year where she's belted all these high notes. When I first heard it, I was so happy that I almost cried😅.

Fact: Anyone who were fortunate to ever purchase a ticket and attended Mamamoo's concert was truly blessed. I envy each and every one of you for your blessings. I dreamed and wished before they broke up that I would see a Mamamoo concert live. Unfortunately, they did not come to the UK for their one and only concert tour. I'm left empty.

Solar’s voice cracks from time to time, but it’s a bit unfair to represent that moment has over pushing when she is purposefully making fun of herself for cracking while practicing.

I truly avoided watching that comparison/ranking clip. I don’t want it to influence how people see the girls. Never been a fan of comparing them because some moomoos, when they see their bias is at the top, they REALLY make sure you know that. Like for example, Wheein, some moos can be so obnoxious about Wheein about telling everyone she’s the best. To me, Mamamoo is Mamamoo because each member brings something different to the table. No one outshines the other.

It is all is determined about whose voice you like the best.

I personally don't believe in these videos, simply because it will always have some sort of biased opinion or miss information or some lacking examples. Like in this video, the uneven amount of introduction for each member, or not showing their full set of skills. And in the end of the day of course, it comes down to a personal choice and favorable sound and etc. Never the less love ur Mamamoo videos dude keep making them :)

Please watch more MMM videos, you were like me in the beginning where I did not hear much of Wheein’s solos (OST Queen) and ability before noticing her in the group. Most reactors I’ve watched do not notice her right away, only some with vocal coach background did tbh. This video is just the tip of the iceberg (of what all the members can do really). She does not stand out because her personality and voice is not in your face like the other 3. Nevertheless, MMM is the strongest female vocal k-pop group because of each of the members talents. I have to say I do agree with his vocal evaluation, this is based on his professional background/opinion regardless of his bias. Maybe except the higher range part coz none of wheein’s whistle notes and upper register clips were included. Overall, this is a backed up appreciation video for her really which she deserves and needs. I noticed you got a bit defensive when he is pointing out Hwasa’s flaws (yes they exist and i’ve witnessed them too on the thousands of MMM videos I’ve watched, not just her but all, they are human after all) and we already knew she’s your bias/crush/fave😆. Looking forward to your reaction to Wheein’s new solo and album so you can see her full potential as a soloist and her style of music! Moomoos regardless of their bias are uber excited!!!🙂

Every member of Mamamoo is great vocalist at all. It is interesting to watch your opinion! I think they all can be a best vocalist. who is the best? It can be diffrent depending on each person's taste and standard. The following is my personal appreciation of their vocals(the order is irrelevant to the ranking) Moonbyul: she is a main rapper of the group but she is also an outstanding vocalist. She can freely move between rap and vocal to suit the song. Her rap and her deep voice vocal makes the song more colorful. Her voice remind me of deep ocean. It can be said that the characteristics of kpop idol musics are that both rap and song are in one song and that rappers and vocals are devided. Not only does she have a good voice, but she is also a talented vocalist. I think she is the member who best represents the unique group called Mamamoo. Her vocal remind me of espresso. When it comes to genres, I think she is the most versatile vocal. Mamamoo is well known for their various genre. Some people even say that "Mamamoo is the genre"and I think Solar plays an important role in keeping their music from being trapped in a particular genre. In my opinion, she doens't have a one specific genre that fits perfectly(maybe ballad?) , but she is the vocalist that fits well with all genres. And her warm soft voice plays a role of glue that combine other member's unique colors in one song. They are all the best artist on each one's own way. They have their own strengths and they complement each other. I personally appreciate Wheein and Solar vocal the most, but I can appreciate other opinion becuz they are all great as well! I think the strength of Mamamoo is not about 1 or 2 best vocalists, But the fact that there are no members who are not outstanding.

4:35 i’ve only taken high school chorus classes so i cant say i am that knowledgeable on vocal technique but hwasa is most definitely not a tenor or baritone. Lol. Also, you cant really use a person’s speaking voice to predict their singing range.

For me personally I always love Wheein and then Solar in terms of vocals. And in over all 3rd gen K-pop I always do consider Wendy of Red Velvet, Wheein and Solar, Yuju of Gfriend and Eunji of Apink as the best female vocalist present in K-pop.

I don't think he's saying that Hyejin's stylistic choices when singing aren't good or aren't good enough, he's saying that they aren't necessarily the healthiest, because she's straining her vocal chords unnecessarily. Despite of what one likes or dislikes, there ARE healthy ways to sing and unhealthy ways to sing and that's why proper vocal technique is so important. So, I think you misunderstood him there and I definitely agree with what he's saying; both Hyejin and Yong do tend to over-push it at times, which is not the healthiest. However, I believe they are much better now, more controlled singers, which is great because this is their instrument and if they want to be around in this industry for a long time, as much as we want them to be too, then they have to take care of it.

I appreciate the points of the guy who made this analysis video about Mamamoo but I disagreed with 2 points he brought to the table. 1. I believe that Solar has the best belting. Wheein has excellent vocal control and many attributes going for it, but as she developed her vocal signature (that sweet, airy falsetto) it's clear that she doesn't have as much belting control nor as much weight as Solar (even though she's a very heavy belting and sometimes a little shouty, she has very easy access as well as a large range where she can apply her chest voice completely) 2. If we analyze it very precisely, Hwasa has a lot of vocal agility and precision. Wheein chooses to put more riffs and longer runs within Mamamoo while Hwasa comes with the most mature and stylish tone for the group. However, analyzing the solo songs of each one, Hwasa has a very wide range of very complex and fast riffs done in a clean way, in addition to showing a great ability to switch from chest register to headvoice easily and at any time, adding textures. about the music, while Wheein tends to show a little more about her comfort zone and performs some less daring riffs and runs without so many vocal textures (I'm not saying that she isn't one of the best artists the world has ever had. How do you get a ranking for mamamoo?
