Long time Quo fan here. I was in the crowd that the pic on the sleeve of 12 Gold Bars was taken. I will always say that between Dog Of Two Head and Quo Live - that run of albums between 1972 and 1977 - they were one of the best, most consistent bands on the Planet.

WELL, DOG OF TWO HEAD WAS FROM 1971, NOT 1972. YOU LEFT OUT MA KELLY'S GREASY SPOON IN 1970, THANK YOU JOHN SCHROEDER. THEN QUO HAD THE AUDACITY TO PRODUCE 2 OF THE BEST DISCO ALBUMS IN 1977 AND 1978. QUO WERE JUST TRYING TO ' STAY ALIVE ' AMONGST THE ' ANARCHY IN THE UK ' THEY WERE FEELING ' PRETTY VACANT ' AND WERE ASKING THEIR QUO FANS ' HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE? ' WHICH MEANS THAT AT THE HEIGHT OF PUNK & DISCO IN 1977/78 A COCAINE RIDDLED ROSSI DECIDED TO GO BEHIND OTHER MEMBERS' BACKS AND HIRE PIP WILLIAMS, WHICH PLANTED THE SEEDS OF THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE QUO WE LOVED. YES, I KNOW THEY PRODUCED 3 MORE AWESOME ALBUMS IN '79 '80 AND '81 ONLY TO THEN PRODUCE 2 OF THE STRANGEST ALBUMS IN '82 AND '83. I DON'T THINK THAT ANY ARTIST HAS RELEASED 16 CONSECUTIVE ALBUMS, WELL, ONLY THE QUO DID. FROM 1968 TO 1983, IS 16 YEARS INCLUSIVELY, YOU CAN COUNT THEM ON YOUR FINGERS. The ANTI-QUO WITH HIS WHITE SOX RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS ROCK CREDENTIALS. RIP ALAN & RICK AND THANX FOR THE HARD ROCKIN' ' QUO ' ALBUM IN 1974. WE NEEDED MORE OF THAT AND NONE OF THE REPULSIVE 'MARGUERITA TIME ' YUCK!!

Jackie Lyntons intro to the greatest live album ever, even though Francis hates it because it warts and all, no overdubs. That's right Stephen, Rossi has said that he doesn't like The 'LIVE' album. Rossi likes a lot of the crap things about QUO, mainly the Post- Lancaster / Coghlan QUO. Rossi is a hard one to work out. First of all, why does he wear white socks??? Men's socks are supposed to blend in and compliment the colours of the clothes. His body language and face touching in interviews, brings his sincerity into question. I've named him THE ANTI-QUO, because he is against a lot of great things about his own Band.

Seeing the Frantic Four live reflects what was said here. I never thought I'd be able to see them in this line-up. Saw them twice on those tours and it was phenomenal. For many a band that bridged the gap between rock and metal and a influence on me in that way in those formative years of finding my way in music. Legendary band.

Love all their albums from "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" (1970) to "Never Too Late" (1981). "Under The Influence" (1999) and "Heavy Traffic" (2002) were a great return to form. When I saw you were doing this I was pleased that the two fellows that were co-captains are massive fans from the UK where the Quo were massive. My 4 years older sister used to annoy the hell out of me by playing all the albums up 'til 1979 as that was the year she moved out. I didn't own any Status Quo records but have now ordered the first 3 (more when I've digested them) thanks to Pete, Simon and Steven who did a wonderful job ranking them. Saved this show to watch in leisure on a blustery (for north Florida) Friday. Typical American here, don't know enough about all the albums of this band to rank any albums but after this show, now know some good entry points. The pleasure of these shows is not only the knowledge of this trio, but the fun, wit, and general humorous tone of their interaction with and reaction to one another. And all the while displaying an excellent depth, and certainly in this instance, width, of knowledge about such an extensive catalogue. The added pleasure is knowing that you three will return with your review of the not-so-good albums of the same band and looking forward to that with great anticipation. Also appreciate you mentioning the live album as the potential 'true' top album. That provides the starting point. Thanks to Simon, Steven and Pete or spending so much time on these shows. They are great to watch watch and also fun to rewatch since there always seems to be something missed on the first viewing. Thanks, gents, and cheers!

Fascinating. Quo were in 50% of UK teenage boys' top 10 fave bands back in the seventies. I have no idea who listened to them after that. Certainly not me. You'll deal with what went wrong in more detail in episode 2. The best albums were from Piledriver to Live! Arrange those six in whatever order you like. (Best track is Forty Five Hundred Times but that goes without saying) Finally, Tangerine Dream (and Peter Hammill and no doubt many other solo artists) have more than 33 albums but it depends which ones you count to know which is no. 33

Frank Zappa also comes to mind when talking about artists/bands with more than 33 albums. At the time of his death I think Zappa had at least 50 albums out and a lot more have come out since his death. Nobody will top Buckethead though. He's released, recorded and/or played on something around 400 albums as crazy as it sounds. That's an insane output.

Fantastic show. One of mt all time fav bands. All the ones that got are fantastic but my number 1 is always on the level. My parents bought this when it was released. Contains the longer version of down down, was released here in Australia originally as get down. Love heavy traffic i saw that tour it was fantastic. In the 70s quo toured Australia 7 times , twice in 73 and didn't return to Australia until 1998. You guys also mentioned the levi promo that they did for blue for you, which they never got any royalties for. Inside the gatefold cover of on the level there is a photo of rick parfitt hand which he has has a split webbing cut to his thumb and first finger, which resulted in cancelation of there south Australian show in 73, i think it was the 2nd 73 Australian tour that this happened. Looking forward to the next show and yes there some awful quo albums and unfortunately i own all of them. Also Francis Rossi hates the quo live 77 lp. I read this in classic rock Magazine. Check out Status Quid (the heebeegeebees) song boring song funny as even Francis and rick liked it.

Loved the band in the 70s. They went downhill at a rapid rate of knots once Lancaster and Coughlan weren't in the line up. Was lucky to catch them live twice, both in Cardiff, Wales, UK. The first time was July '76 when they topped a bill over Budgie, Curved Air, Hawkwind and the Strawbs, at a great outdoor gig at Cardiff Castle. The 2nd time was a year later at Cardiff Capitol Theatre

Interestingly enough, Quo sometimes got lumped in there with the metal bands for a while in the late '70s/early '80s, their hardcore fans were definitely the denim (sometimes leather) male crowd. Magazines like Kerrang! I remember would feature them quite a bit and in Germany they'd guest the more hard rocking TV shows like Beat Club, Szene and RockPop in Concert the latter 1982 live show also featured Jethro Tull, Joan Jett, ZZ Top and Saxon that year, all these gigs are on KZfaq.

Great summary. A 'worst of' has to focus on the lazy covers albums, Don't Stop and Famous in the Last Century. I have a soft spot for Under The Influence, and to be fair they are rarely unlistenable. I saw the Frantic Four twice on the reunion tours and they were incredible. Last time I saw them they were surprisingly energetic without Parfitt, as well. Good on them.

I think I saw Quo more than any other band in my teens in the early 80's. The final time was at Crystal Palace on their farewell tour in 1985. While they weren't the most musically talented band, I still think they were the most fun band I've ever seen and I guess that's why I kept going back to see them. I did see Rossi with his latest incarnation in Hyde Park a few years' back but, regretably, they were awful. With the passing of Alan and Rick, we'll never get those days back again, so thank you for bringing back so many great memories and I've spent the afternoon listening along to albums I haven't listened to in years, maybe decades!

Quo were the bridge for me as a 15 year in 1978 from the glam of Sweet and Slade to Thin Lizzy AC/DC NWOBHM. From the singles Caroline , Down Down. I bought the Live album still their best album and OnThe Level.. Then as I started listening to AC/DC etc and they released Rocking all over the world , Accident prone I lost interest in them. That said over the years I’ve appreciated their classic line up releases more and now own the classic albums. When you asked of an American band similar profile I immediately though REO Speedwagon though they have a couple of hits in the UK.Not really Skynyrd as I last saw them at the Glasgow Hydro in 2019 and everyone knows at least 2 Skynyrd songs. Ironically Quo supported Skynyrd that night. The later stuff I haven’t heard much I should try some but bits of them I have heard Rossi alway sound a bit Chas and Dave to me.

The Doors may not be everybody's choice, but let's not forget that when they heard Roadhouse Blues being played in a bar somewhere, it was almost a turning point for the band. They grabbed it, made it their own and used the shuffle and gritty, heads down attitude and sound of it of it as a basis for the Quo trademark onwards. Same really with Bye Bye Johnny. It's virtually closed every Quo set since 72 onwards. Aas with the Doors, you can't ignore the influence of Chuck Berry on the band.

78 - Welcome to the world of THE QUO. We love it when Americans and Canadians discover QUO via You Tube. Most of you are shocked and surprised that you've never heard QUO until You Tube. I love the superlatives and adjectives you use to describe The Best and Greatest Rock Band of all time. In relation to your Lars Ulrich comment, Lars actually wrote in a book called "The Most Popular British Band of all Time, STATUS QUO", it was either The Foreword or the section in the back of the book. Lars said that his Father took him to see STATUS QUO in the 70's, when he was 14 yrs old, in Denmark.it must've been 1977. Of course, Lars has nothing but great words to describe his QUO experience. He loves THE QUO!!!!!

Great show, what a laugh. I'm in Glasgow like Steven, and also saw the show they did as part of 4 in 1 day. Think it was around dinner time when it finished. Not a massive fan of the Quo but live it's impossible to resist the boogie. On Quo at the Apollo - it was always said the upper circle moved when they played there, a frightenimg thought. And Steven's "chug means something different in Scotland" - lmao at that one. Brilliant guys.

Nice piece, well done chaps. I'm another to whom the Frantic Four tours were great (rating in my top 10 live shows) and unexpected as John Coghlan had left by the time I was old enough to see them live. For me it's 1. Never too late 2. Just supposin' and, now you mention it, 3. Quo. I was always an Alan Lancaster fan and once he left I showed my disgust with the softening of the sound by also switching off and moving on to the like of Maiden. Oddly I never rated the Live! album, to be from a 1980/81 perspective it was really old hat.

Quo/Hello/Blue for You/On the Level - all no 1 picks for the Quo. Quo Live absoutely their greatest moment even though it has Roadhouse Blues on it as well it has a fantastic version of 45 hundred times. That was my first Quo album followed by 12 Gold Bars - if you've never heard any Quo either of those 2 are a great place to start. Back in the day I'll admit I was a bit of a musical snob thinking the Quo just stuck to the three chords however on getting all the albums mentioned in this it is clearl evident that they were far greater than some painted them out to be back in the day.

Great show chaps - lovely content, conversations, recollections and reveals during the show (thumbnails and so on...). Totally agree about the greasy spoon cover being reminiscent of Saturday night, Sunday morning. The Quo always had that working class vibe along with bands like Maiden. I was never that into Quo as a 1980s child/ teen. In the UK rock scene they were considered very uncool / dad rock / boring and just rehashing the same song 10303823 times. They were lovely people, always came across well in interviews and on UK TV but yeah - for me, I was into Rush, Maiden, Sabbath, Hawkwind and classic rock which excited me. But they just didn't move mountains for me...
