Thanks for the awesome vid! Only got into Amicus a year ago but have now obsessively collected all the anthologies. Torture Garden is a bit flat, but for me House that Dripped Blood and Asylum are tied for first. If you could switch the ditch the Waxwork segment from House and bung in the Vampires cloak from Asylum, you'd have the ultimate anthology. A video ranking individual stories would be amazing!

Watching horror films as a child, me too! I was only six years old when I started watching the double feature of Universal Horror on Sunday afternoons that aired on a local station. I also had to fit the viewing in between brunch. My mom was a really good cook and family time was very important for all of us. Thanks for the reviews.

The simplicity of some of the stories often worked in their favour. I remember an episode of ITV's Thriller 70's series,( I'm the Girl he wants to kill) which mostly consisted of a man running around an empty office block hunting a woman - saw it at age 11. Absolutely terrifying.

Good video, love these films. My order would be (best to worst) 1.) Tales from the Crypt 2.) The House that Dripped Blood 3.) Vault of Horror 4.) Asylum 5.) From Beyond the Grave 6.) Torture Garden 7.) Dr Terror's House of Horrors Hurts to put that last but, apart from Christopher Lee and the severed hand, I find the stories pretty weak. My favourite story from all of them is probably the Denholm Elliot story in THTDB as 'Dominic' has always creeped me out!

For me, the jackpot is anything with the triumvirate of Lee, Cushing, and the fabulous Michael Gough, whom I can't stop watching. He makes me laugh like none other. One of my guilty pleasures is a film called Konga where Gough is totally off the chain. His performance in that is so right it's wrong ( or maybe, so wrong, it's right???) Don't even get me started on Tales from the Crypt, and the early '90's HBO series that came out when I was 15...so amazing!
@michaelbartlettfilm Жыл бұрын
So pleased to come across a fellow Michael Gough fan! He never got his due. His weird apotheosis was a TV series written by Dennis Potter called Blackeyes, with him and a young and very beautiful Gina Bellman. It's VERY politically incorrect, but worth a gander if you're a Gough devotee.

I really enjoyed your video. I've been a huge fan of Hammer and Amicus since watching them as a kid, on late night BBC and ITV in the 80's. All seven films are great, it was hard putting them in order, have included my favourite story too: 7 - Torture Garden (The Man Who Collected Poe). 6 - House that Dripped Blood (Waxworks). 5 - Dr Terrors House of Horrors (Disembodied Hand) 4 - Vault of Horror (Drawn and Quartered) 3 - From Beyond the Grave (An Act of Kindness) 2 - Asylum (The Weird Tailor) 1 - Tales from the Crypt (And All Thru the House) Interesting to note that Peter Cushing was in six of the seven films - although he was part of the framing story in two of those, interestingly, the first and last. I could easily make a case for saying that the four segments he was in are four of the best ever stories and could put them together and make a 'best of' amicus anthology film. There aren't any terrible stories but some of the weaker ones for me are: Bargain in Death (Vault); Mr. Steinway (Torture) and The Elemental (Beyond Grave). But I love them all really.

You describe these films brilliantly but I`m a big fan of "Torture Garden" especially with the spectacular funfair shots at the start of the show . The introductory lift scene in "Vault of Horror" is also pure magic but I`m not keen on Tom Baker who just looked out of place with his dated hairstyle and terrible clothes . I really like all the films and actually saw "Doctor Terror" at the cinema back in the day . Roy Castle was slightly irritating as the cocky jazz hipster , but Alan Freeman gave a creditable performance in the creeping vine story . Also a mention for Max Adrian who was superb in the vampire section .
