I'm a Kyle Busch fan but I don't agree with him at number 2 ahead of people like Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon, maybe in the 2010s he would be up there but not the 2000s

Agree He's 7th IMO for the 2000s. The 5 champions minus Bobby because he fell off after leaving JGR in 2005 should automatically be 1st-5th.

In 2002, Newman won 6 pole awards, and that was the deciding factor in the rookie of the year. Jimmie did finish better in points than Newman though. Strange.

First off 2000's is 2000-2009, so 2010 should NOT be included. That being said my list only factors in the Cup series. #1. Jimmie Johnson: 291 starts, 47 wins, 117 top fives, 180 top tens, 23 poles, 9682 laps led, & 4 championships #2. Jeff Gordon: 358 starts, 33 wins, 145 top fives, 217 top tens, 38 poles, 10,445 laps led, 1 championship #3. Tony Stewart: 358 starts, 34 wins, 132 top fives, 209 top tens, 8 poles, 9,423 laps led, 2 championships #4. Matt Kenseth: 358 starts, 18 wins, 94 top fives, 172 top tens, 4 poles, 5,679 laps led, 1 championship #5. Kurt Busch: 328 starts, 20 wins, 71 top fives, 136 top tens, 10 poles, 5,535 laps led, 1 championship You could argue that Stewart coukd be ahead of Gordon and Busch could be ahead of Kenseth but these five are definitely the best five from that decade.

As a Busch fan I agree with you. I was expecting him to be 4th behind Johnson, Gordon, and Stewart. Busch was always a race contender in the 2000's but never a Title contender. After 2010 is really when his stats started to truly pile on. I mean now he's finished top 3 in points 3 consecutive year and top 5 4 out of 5. So 2010's he'd definitely be up there, maybe even first, but 2nd on this list is too high

I feel you because of guys like Mark Martin, Bobby Labonte, Dale Jarrett, and Jeff Burton but IMO they should be a best drivers from 1990-1999, 1995-2004, 2000-2009, and 2005-2014 because we have different generations of drivers. Like for example. I wouldn't include Chase, Erik, Daniel, William, and other future rookies in a 2010-2019 list but I would include them in a 2015-2024 list.

Richard M. Boyd Ehhhhh more like 95-05. Remember Jeff won 4 championships from 1995 to 2001 so you would have to either put him in 1990 to 1999 or 1995-2004 because those are 10 year periods and that was Jeff’s prime years.

Champs with creditable success come first, then Harvick and Jr who had relative success. A surprise factor with Newman because of ROY, # of poles, 8 wins in a season, and Daytona 500 win.

Kyle is the #2 of this decade. In the 2000s? Nope, maybe at the low end of the top 10 but I ended up not picking him. My top 10 would go (in that order): Johnson, Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Edwards, Biffle, Dale Jr, Harvick, Hamlin. Counted only Cup results, lower series shouldn't be added because there are guys who ran full seasons (or close to that) in those series when they were already established cup drivers (with Harvick and Edwards winning championships) and guys that ran only a handful of races (the Hendrick duo barely ran any and Kurt jumped from the Trucks straight to Cup). Picked Stewart ahead of Gordon because he won more races and championships, picked Kenseth over his Roush teammates because he was more consistent, finishing top 10 in points for 6 straight years (2002-07), also, he was a champion under the Winston Cup format (in quite dominant fashion, despite only winning once) and had a decent number of wins too, Kurt had his ups and downs including getting fired from Roush but he was always good for 2 wins a year and people forgot he was quite good during his earlier seasons, even at Penske, which was a 2nd tier team when he was there (even 3rd tier at some years) he was able to get some wins, in fact, Kurt won at least one race every year from 2002-11, while guys like Edwards, Biffle, Dale Jr had multiple winless seasons in the same period. Dale Jr had some truly abysmal years later in the decade but he was quite good from 2000-04, sure, we can argue that his win totals are sort of inflated because of how dominant DEI was on restrictor plate tracks (Michael Waltrip was a scrub and he won 4 races, including 2 Daytona 500 lol) but Jr was a championship contender in some of those seasons. Final 4 spots on the list I was between Harvick, Hamlin, Kyle and Mark Martin. Mark had some decent finishes in points, including two 2nd places and two 4th places but he didn't win many races (over half of his wins came in his 2009 ressurgence season) and ran part time for two years. Kyle showed signs of being an elite driver but he was very inconsistent (like in 2008 where he dominated in the regular season and disappeared in the Chase) and him being a yearly championship contender is actually a very recent development, so I picked Hamlin because despite the fact that he didn't run a lot of seasons in the 2000s, he was consistent at all of them, including a 3rd place in points as a rookie and Harvick because he had the worst equipment of those listed. When RCR had minimally decent equipment, he always went on to finish top 5 in points (and top 10 as a rookie despite being rushed to the ride because of Dale Sr's death) but that wasn't always the case and RCR had some truly bad years (like 2004-05 and 2009) that robbed him of contending for more wins. Quite crazy that he led more laps in his first year driving for SHR than he did during his entire career at RCR.
