Lovely video Damian and very well put together, some serious work went into this we should imagine. The spot looked amazing for the views and apart from the wind the weather looked great too. See what you mean about the sheep comment you left on our video now lol. We like to cook with buddy burners/twigs ect but unfortunately we have to go to the dark side and take gas sometimes if its going to be too windy. Thanks for sharing the vid, we really enjoyed it. All the best, Gareth&Zoe Wildcamps

Looked a brilliant camp. Lovely spot. "Wild camping is great if nothing goes wrong" lol. The camp my brother and I talk about the most and what we both consider as our "best" wild camp was when 2 tents got destroyed by the wind in the middle of the night and we abandoned camp at 3am walking back in torrential rain and waist deep melting snow. It was bloody AWESOME. ATB MARK.

Thats one advantage to using a tent is that if its windy you can just cook inside. Great video! Looking forward to seeing a vid of you and Davey again :)

Some great time lapses Damien. I'd definitely put up with a flappy bivi for those views. Nothing like that down here in the fens. Have you ever thought above a gas stove. I know a jetboil is expensive but there are cheaper options alpkit brewkit, fire maple etc. Even if you kept your crusader cup and went with a msr pocket rocket type stove. You can refill the canisters with the right adapter if cost is an issue. I have a Coleman 442 featherlite petrol stove which lives in the car but in my opinion is still to big to take hiking. I'll be honest I like the fact your a traditionalist and stick to buddy burners but out on the hills they Can be an arse. Ha I'm waffling. Love the vid mate Kind regards Kai
@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
I think I'll stay with buddy burners as I like being able to burn twigs so they last longer and less weight to take. I may try a small gas burner at some point if I do more hill camping but there are so many options out there. Thanks for the comments, ATB
@MintOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Awesome views Damian. Was interesting to see how those bivvie's hold up in the wind. A bit flappy but seem reliable enough like.
@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I was surprised the bivy survived the wind, it took a bit of a hammering. Next time I will take ear plugs as it was a bit noisy. ATB

Beautiful views plus the company of sheep. Who could ask for more. The bivy seemed to be a good option here. I guess that a sleepwalker who have to pass on this location.

Nice wee camp there Damien lad. I love that place the views are amazing from all angles. You shouldn't chase sheep. You might catch one lol 🐑 then what? You're right those meals are tasty but not enough of it. I sometimes stick 2 in. 🐷.. shame about this rotten wind like. It's been a right pain. Hopefully it'll drop soon. Loved the lapses as usual stunning sunset 🌅 you caught. Hope to see you soon mate. Keep on camping. You know it makes sense. Atb.

@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
I've replied, really I shoudn't bite but couldn't help it lol
@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
Its one of my favourite places (the western fells) and there is lots of parking in the Crummock water area so was a no brainer for me. Chasing sheep is fun, warms you up before getting in the sack. If your serious about bagging a sheep, the best way is by downhill mountain biking with wellies and baseball bat. Just start at the top and pick out several targets on the way down, once your good at it you'll get a few then take your pick but remember go for lamb as mutton is a bit tough, mutton dressed as lamb is somewhere in the middle and thats what I prefere. Top tip: wearing a mask is recommended incase someone spots you mind. ATB
@AndyWardle7 жыл бұрын
Fell Wanderer pmsl. I'll write these top tips down for future use. Aye it's a great area over that way. Plenty places to camp left to do. I've climbed all the fells but not camped up them all. Great reply on that annoying comment like. People are strange... hopefully see ya next week wor kid.

Love that benny hill bit...keep that for your next vid... Still say the Dutch hooped biv is better...more leg room...not had any condensation yet even sleeping in the rain without a tarp. Thumbs up as always & keeping one eye open for the next video..
@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
The dutch bivi is more breathable and roomy plus you can get a large pack down at the bottom where your feet is. It's a bit heavier and not as small packed down though. I've heard the zips can fail and they come in used condition, I wasn't sure what kind of quality I would get as some come with professional repairs?. it was a hard choice, lots of plus and minus with both bivi's but I'm happy with the Stratosphere and I'm sure would have been happy with the Dutch bivi also, Thanks for your comment, ATB

good one pal I think I would have been down in the gap out of the wind like but a video👌
@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gaz, down the gap was like a wind tunnel but the wind did shift direction later on and would have been a better spot. Above had more views and maybe a little more wind so camped there. The weather forecast was wrong and if I'd known the wind was going to get that bad, I would have definitely pitched down below instead and possibly a sheep for company. Great seeing you and John the other day, ATB

Great video Damien. Pleased to see you using the noodles again. I've stopped using the look what I found meals. And only use ilumi or British army boil in bags. Far better in my opinion. That's a great area but the views from Dale head or Dale tarn are great too you can pay £7 to park at honister slate mine overnight safe and secure you can see right out to the Irish sea through black sail pass in one direction and straight down newlands valley to Keswick in the other. Id give up with buddy burner in the hills and use a small gas stove or even better invest in a jetboil,expensive but pays dividends. 👍
@Fell_Wanderer7 жыл бұрын
I'm getting sick of the look what we've found meals, the ilumi ones do taste better or maybe I'm just sick of eating them, especially meatballs. Thanks for the info on Honister parking, it can be hard to find a parking spot in the lakes. I'm gonna take a stove in future, makes more sense up in the hills where its usually windy, atb.
