@Gregbaltzer
@Gregbaltzer 4 жыл бұрын
@@anthonynewcome128 Load and Reload were both suppose to be released together in one album, but the label didn't allow it. It took me 20 years to like Metallica again, but the problem with Metallica is they've lost the ability to self edit themselves. It seems like every idea they have ends up on an album. That's the issue with Hardwired. If they kept that album down to the top 8 songs it would have been really good, but they didn't know when to discard their more mediocre moments and it all ended up on the album and it weakened it.

"Alive", "Destroyer", "Rock and Roll Over", "Love Gun", "Alive II" and then in 1982 "Creatures of the Night" are all solid. Sure some of the lyrics are never going to be outclassing Neil Young or Bob Dylan but sometimes you just need something catchy and a big riff don't you? The Ace Frehley solo album from 1978 is really good too. The first three albums before "Alive" would be great too if it weren't for the fact the production means they sound like they were recorded in on a cassette which has been dropped into a tank of water.

Van Halen - Diver Down was the first VH album I ever bought. I had a friend that introduced VH to me through that album. Yes, I learned of the greatness of the earlier albums after that. But, this one has some cool moments in it too. "Cathedral", "Little Guitars" and as a young drummer I loved Alex's playing on this too.

I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. I have tried to like The Final Cut too and I dont care for it. There are few moderately weak Floyd albums that I have tried to like, but I couldn't. Atom Heart Mother would also make that very short list. I'm glad the band later trashed their own AHM album, because I dont like it. Oddly enough, I think Tales From The Topographic Ocean is a good Yes album, even though band members like Rick Wakeman say that album was a mess. So, the band is sometimes wrong about ther own albums. That might make a good topic. "Albums that bands regret making, but they aren't that bad".

@@floyd75dylan Wright was fired during the recording of The Wall, but stayed on as a salaried hired hand for the live shows. Even when he came back for AMLOR he wasn't an official member... I remember a funny pic in the tour book had him taking the back seat in a plane cockpit to Mason and Gilmour, driving the bus so to speak. FC can be pretty dreary, but Waters cuts to bone with his emotions throughout it. Title track is brutal. Too bad he had to put all of the Faulkland Island politics into it, which now dates it badly. The few Gilmour solos are top notch and can lift you up above the terrible sadness of it all.

I was shocked when Evergrey suddenly was mentioned since most people who know the other bands you mentioned typically never heard of Evergrey. I agree Monday Morning Apocalypse is a weaker album since Tom went on record of using a more well known producer instead of producing it himself (at this point, Tom only produced Inner Circle. Andy LaRoque produced the other ones before it). I still think its a great album in its own right but it did grow on me overtime. I felt songs like "I Should", "Still in the Water", "The Dark I Walk You Through", "Till Dagmar", "I Should", "Obedience", etc are classics. I used to think that as well, since Dave was so schmaltzy and vaudvillian and so forth. But according to Ed, Alex and Mike, Ted Templeman was the one who mostly pushed for VH to do energetic covers, to fill slots on the LP's. I actually think their cover of Ronstadt's "No Good", is a masterpiece. "DITS" is acceptable because of all the phantom keys Eddie put in, that many VH fans still think are guitars. On a personal note, "Pretty Woman" was the first song I ever learned to play with a whammy bar and can still pull out of my ass at a drunk jam session lol. So I have a thing for it. But yeah overall, VH would never get away today with putting out all those covers. Warner Bros could afford to buy the rights and Templeman ran with it so, there ya go. And hell, even Judas Priest covered "Diamonds and Rust" by J. Baez. So it's not like it's unheard of for hard rock/metal giants, to do it.

SvenTviking I’m not arguing with your dislike for the Final Cut, but to clarify....do you mean “everything else by the Floyd are masterpieces” to include all 7 releases prior to Dark Side?? Or do you mean all 7 releases After Dark Side?? Just trying to understand your meaning. I find the releases prior to Dark Side mostly difficult to listen to. They were so experimental and mostly lacked direction,clarity, and structure.

That's the one that ended it for me. I thought Eddie Van Halen would have done a solo album by now.

This is the first time, since discovering this channel, that I'm catching this video, and it's over 2 years old. I laughed my ASS off the entire time. You were far more brutal back then, Pete, LOL! Some thoughts: Pink Floyd - Yeah, I always liked them best when they were a collective unit. There's none of that on FC, and it suffers for it. My least favorite, as well. ELP - I don't think it's so much that the songs are poppy, as much as it's a severe lack of passion. There's no enthusiasm here, to my ears. It was done out of contractual obligation, and it shows. Their reunion albums had a bit more spark, and as a result, I like those better. Love Beach is my least favorite, as well. Gentle Giant - Their weakest, I still love this album, even though you could tell it was their most contrived. Messages all over the album that signalled GG were near their end. Rush - This was the 2nd album I bought from Rush, so it's a sentimental favorite. Love the songs, too. Yes - Well, I honestly don't think they did too much that was all that great after Talk. Queen - Hahahaha!!! I still like this one, though. Dream Theater - Super-long, boring, not memorable. Yeah, there's even something about the production that gives these songs an artificial, watered-down quality. No bite or crunch, whatsoever. My least favorite.
