Moving Pictures is an absolute masterpiece and a perfect album in my opinion. Tom Sawyer and Limelight are the most popular songs on the album but my 2 favorite are Red Barchetta and Camera Eye.

BUT! I read an interview with Geddy Lee where he said that "Clockwork Angels" album was their best work. Moving Pictures used to be my favorite album until Clockwork Angels was born.

Right there with ya on The Camera Eye. Not just one of my favorite Rush songs, but one of my favorites songs of all time. My favorites on MP have gotta be Witch Hunt, Red Barchetta and The Camera Eye. Moving Pictures was the album that really pushed to try to play more complex parts on the drum kit and of course Neil is my favorite drummer of all time (RIP Neil). My favorite Rush album is Power Windows (My favorite Rush song is Natural Science), but you can’t deny that Moving Pictures is a perfect album. And again I’m with you on Clockwork Angels. No other band I know could’ve gone out with an album like that.

Rush served notice to the music world in 1981 with this album. No other band at the time could hold a candle to them. There's a reason Neil Peart is your favorite drummers favorite drummer!

Fantastic reaction. The first time I held this album, oh so long ago, it didn't leave my cassette player for months. Later when I bought my first CD player, this album HAD to be my first. It has become a tradition that whenever I purchased a new entertainment system or vehicle, playing this album first would provide me with luck.

YYZ was based on the IATA code for Toronto's Pearson International Airport. If you listen carefully to Neil's and Geddy's opening patterns, you'll note that they're spelling it out in Morse Code (-.-- -.-- --..), which is what they heard as Alex, who's a licensed pilot, was flying them home for the weekend from Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec, where they were recording Moving Pictures; on subsequent tours, whenever they saw YYZ on their luggage tags, they'd know that they were heading home to their families. My favourite live performance of YYZ is Live In Rio, where the audience is singing along to it; I also like the Exit Stage Left performance, where the third drum full leads into an extended drum solo. Great reaction; looking forward to more Rush!! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥

The album cover, front and back is a masterpiece too. It's moving pictures: people moving pictures into or out of a building. The pictures all depict highly emotional scenes, thus moving pictures. On the back, we see a film crew filming the whole scene, making a moving picture.

Red Barchetta is based on a short story (I believe it was in the magazine Popular Mechanics called A Sunday Drive. A futuristic story about a time when gas engines are outlawed. Great mind visual!!!

The Camera Eye is my favorite Rush song, though Hold Your Fire is generally my favorite Rush album. We had to fan vote them into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame because fuck them. I think the band only accepted it because we as fans had been pushing for it for so long. They didn’t care. So humble. Check out the video of them performing on Stephen Colbert’s show. I think it was around 2015. It was their first US appearance in like 40 years.

Pretty perfect album. Has it all. This is also the era I liked Geddy's voice the best. A little lower than the real early Geddy.

About Red Barchetta, you are 100% correct. My first car was a '75 Chevy Camaro, into which we poured a 350cc V8 from a Chevy truck, with a four-bolt main paired to headers and a shift kit. This was the favourite song for its use. Come to think of it, it remained the best driving song through various motorcycles, ending with a BMW K1200 GT, transitioning into 2- and 4-series BMW coupes. That was nothing compared to Neil Peart's automobiles. His class car collection was auctioned off for charities a couple of years after his death. Just Google "neil Peart" and "silver surfers" and you'll see for yourself. Of note, Peart never did acquire a red barchetta!

This album came out when I was 15. A few yrs later I was at a friends house and he had the album. I opened the liner notes and began reading the song Camera eye. I couldn’t remember how the song went and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how he sang those lyrics. When I played it, man, the sheer genius of this band and this record just exploded in my brain. I’ll never forget that experience.

Red Barchetta is the greatest driving song ever created. If you don't have a V8, premium sound and a sunroof, sell your car and get one. Windows down, sunroof open premium sound cranked V8 floored down a winding country road. This is life.

Interestingly, a recent poll of Rush fans by the band itself (through its website) placed Tom Sawyer in the fourth most popular position. Red Barchetta came first with Limelight a close second. Then came YYZ, and then came Tom Sawyer.

This was Rush at their best. Many fans would've been content if they just repeated this album over and over again ala AC/DC. That's not in their nature. They experimented and lost some fans. Im a diehard who stuck with them even when i didnt like a particular album, "Hold Your Fire". "Sticking it out", was right because i loved their subsequent releases.
