This band is a particular and special reaction to that, I feel. I believe Ukraine is the most significant country in the world right now because it is literally the struggle of good against evil. When you talked about coming to terms with your feelings and flowing with the current of your emotions, I couldn't help but think that might be more difficult when your country is under attack and your home has been destroyed. This song succeeds on so many levels for me. I've heard the band members say it's not their favorite representation, but my suspicion is that they may simply have grown tired of everyone focusing so much on it--bands tend to get tired of their most popular songs. For me it's a perfect representation of the duality of life, and of Tatiana's voice and personality. The beautiful calm intro, verse and refrain build subtly and then transition shockingly into the heavy guitars and screaming aggression of her voice. The instruments perfectly complement the emotional expression of the lyrics. Tati's vocal delivery expresses raw emotion with an intensity rarely seen even in a world of great singers. I feel like her scream is part of her scale armor. One of the elements I love about Jinjer, and that I rarely see mentioned: feminism! It's pure female empowerment! Rock music has been largely a male dominated world, and I'm thrilled to see women who not only hold their own, but excel and even dominate in their arena! Tati is not afraid to show feminine sensitivity and emotionalism, even admitting weakness and terror. But she defies weakness with a primal scream of rage and power! I have a young daughter, and that's what I want for her: the strength to face up to challenges, find her inner strength, and scream out like a peaceful warrior. Women have been second class citizens for far too long! I love it when a woman shouts out loud and refuses to be silenced! Tatiana is a ferocious Woman King! #BOTD The beginning or the end you can't tell, when I wave my fin and shake my tail. A moment of cuteness and playfulness in Tati's expression of how she feels with the anxiety of dealing with the emotions expressed in the song. She's an introvert, and I can sense she had some of the same conflicting and contradictory feelings about fame and notoriety that have plagued people like Curt Cobain and Neil Peart. An interesting thing I heard recently (not sure if true) is that this Pisces video was shot at a time when she had just slashed off her long dreadlocks in a fit of anxiety. Clearly there's been some trauma. In my experience a shockingly high percentage of women have experienced the trauma of sexual assault during their lives. Not saying that's Tatiana; I don't know. But clearly she's had anxiety over dealing with "callous men" and "handsome butchers" And she's facing up to it with a roar of defiance and masculine strength. I love it. In the past year the courageous Ukrainians have given the world a lesson in bravery, inventiveness, toughness, and what it means to stand up for freedom and goodness. I think we should all thank them from the bottom of our hearts, and support them in any way we can. For me Jinjer exemplifies everything that is good about Ukraine. Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava! Queen Tati and the boys are legit! seen them live twice. She means every damn word she writes. Very concerned about the state of this world! They are a Ukrainian band. In fact are from the Donbass region, Donetsk to be exact! They have seen the worst that humanity has to offer since it all started there in 2014! Through all of it have stuck it out. The image of herself as a fish both afraid but wanting to be caught - wanting the sunlight but knowing that being caught and out of the water brings pain and suffocation. The analogy of that to the fears of risking being in a relationship is such brilliant writing.

I've also seen them live twice and can confirm that the vocals are all Tati and they are an absolutely phenomenal band. They are just as good or maybe even better live, than in studio in my opinion. She’s all natural with her voice (sometimes layers vocals on top of each other for fullness of sound but everyone does now). Now that you’ve dipped into genre fusion metalcore with this it’ll open you guys up to some really crazy vocals. My favorite jinjer song has to be teacher teacher. If you want to move even heavier into deathcore, I would check out “to the hellfire” but Lorna shore. The new vocalist Will Ramos has changed the game of harsh vocals. He makes some crazy noises.

Jinjer is definitely not a "typical" metal band, they have a sound all their own, and that most definitely includes Tati and her phenomenal vocal range. If you like RAP, check out Jinjer's "Teacher Teacher." Make sure you watch it all the way to the end!

I have been a Jinjer fan now for about 5 years now and they just keep getting better and better.

When the war began they interrupted a tour and went home to Ukraine. Tatiana was sent back to the US to be with her husband. The other band members were soon sent to join her and continue touring to support the cause.

It was about a fish (Pices).. swimming...playing...getting caught and put on a butcher's table being cleaned or descaled. (emeralds ripped away). :)

Tatiana is self taught, she's a goddess! Vlad, the drummer was a classical pianist and he took up the drums as a hobby, how talented is that guy? The list of women with beastly harsh vocals is growing constantly. Spiritbox, Arch Enemy, Hanabie, and Ad Infinitum are some good bands to look into if you want some variety in bad ass front women.

Tati said in interview that she heard Otep and wondered if she could do what she was hearing coming from Otep (if you don't know who Otep is, she is one of the original women in this genre of music, and should absolutely be check out). So Tati found a place outside in the Ukraine and end result is Jinjer....this is 100% her

I don't know astrology, but since the sign Pisces is represented by 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, this would go perfectly with the split personality of her vocals. Without going into all of the nautical imagery used, I think the song boils down to her being in the position of "once bitten, twice shy". She is of 2 minds internally. Part of her longs for an intimate relationship - a fish being hooked. But the other part of her is "skittish" due to past pain caused by abusive relationships - "callous men" and "handsome butchers". In order for true intimacy to be achieved, her protective armour of iridescent scales (emeralds) has to be abandoned, (ripped away), but she is afraid. This reminds me of the situation in Star Trek where the transporter won't work if the shields are up.

I got tickets to see them in Cincinnati in August !! counting down everyday ..They are the best metal band on the planet !! Tatiana speaks 7 ..yes 7 languages and is a masterful lyricist!! I still believe that whoever was responsible for putting out the lyrics for this song got the chorus wrong and Tati just didn’t want the hassle of having it corrected. She is always very thoughtful about her lyrics and “scale armor Blaze virgin innocence” simply doesn’t make sense. It also doesn’t sound like that’s what she sings. I believe that the chorus actually is “scale armor Belies virgin innocence”. I love watching people discover Jinjer and this song for the first time, but that always bugs me. There are distortion pedals for vocals, but they have that artificial sound and they can’t reach this level of distortion quality. Also, using them to completely distort vocals doesn’t sound right, they can only really be used to add just a little bit to whatever vocal you want some distortion on

The first line of the chorus is deliberately ambiguous. There are two major interpretations of it, and Tatiana pronounces it halfway in between the two. "Scale armor, blaze! Virgin innocence..." vs. "Scale armor belies virgin innocence." I personally like the second one, as it makes more sense and flows better to me... but on the other hand, the first one is like a defensive battle cry, like "Scale armor blaze! [Protect my] virgin innocence." She won't say which is what she meant it to be... mischievously so. Then again, she harbors a lot of resentment for this song, and _hates_ that it's their most popular.
