Getting smacked around on shockwave was a right of passage for many kids in Chicagoland.

Spent my entire junior high and high school existence there! Great memories.

Absolutely love this park and thanks for the Viper shoutout, that thing gets better every year! I miss Rolling Thunder, good memories as a kid, but the irony is that Raging Bull is in its place now and the Bull is now my favorite ride ever.

SFGA is my home town park and its definitely fun.I went there as a kid and now that I'm 40 with 4 children I get to enjoy their smiles 😃.

Deja Vu was alway broken, and Shockwave had it's hare of problems as well. Southwest Territory was planned much earlier, and a taller sky ride called Southern Cross took riders to that part of the park. The original sky ride was called Delta Flyer/Eagles Flight.

This park is literally my second home~ my mom and I would go just to do raging bull if we were near by, I love this place

Very nice summary. Been going there since I was 13 in 1981. Rode every ride in your video except Turn of the Century before it was the Demon. Rode the Edge just a few days before the accident.

Riding the Eagle backwards was so much fun. Miss the Tidal Wave. I still have my Marriot’s Great America frisbee, lol.

Six Flags Great America is a awesome theme park. I've been to Gurnee Illinois and Atlanta Georgia.

Nice retrospective! As a kid, I visited Great America during many summer vacations (closest big theme park to Eastern Iowa), but I don't think I've been back since 2000 or so. Always wondered how the place evolved since then... kinda sad so many of my old favorite rides are gone, but that's the price of progress I suppose.

I loved the video! About to head there in a few hours. Always a shame seeing what the park was/could have been.

I grew up next to and worked at Marriotts Santa Clara It was sold repeatedly as well. I hate that they got rid of the flume rides. Whizzer was removed after a kid was killed on it since it was named after Willard Marriott. I still have the opening day frisbee. I’ve been in LosAngeles for over 30 years now and I’m a Disneyland guy but I’m finally going back to Great America in august. I may be in Chicago in September and if I am I’ll go to gurnee for sure.

Yankee territory is now DC Universe, they renamed the Yankee clipper to "Aquaman splash down" and renamed Vertical velocity to "The flash". So in DC Universe is Dark night, Superman,Batman, The flash, The joker, and Aquaman splashdown

I grew up going to this park at least 2 times a year, and a whole bunch more when they started selling season passes. I wish they would have taken the off year to fix up the general appearance... landscaping, painting walkways, and overall general look, as the park looks it's age. I'm still waiting and hoping they decide to hybrid retrack The American Eagle. It's a miracle it's still working, the track has always been a brutal ride. The video was right on, one little note, the shuttle replaced the Edge. The Turn of The Century was awesome and my first coaster... the Demon song kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i5h6ncSf2tGqqGQ.html is silly!
