This is my Rapid Set Mortar Mix REVIEW. I am a Licensed Builder and recently made Precast Concrete Countertops...Here are my thoughts on Rapid Set Mortar Mix!
If you are looking to make your own DIY Concrete Countertops you are making a good decision.
If done right, your DIY Concrete Counters can transform the look of your kitchen and give it a modern and rustic appeal.
The first set of Concrete Counters that I made were done using Quikrete Countertop Mix, which was not what I expected!
The Second round of Concrete Countertops that I made, I used Rapid Set Mortar Mix and they turned out much better and the overall process of making them was much smoother.
In this video I will give you a detailed review and my experience using Rapid Set Mortar Mix.
Thanks for watching!

Great overview. Your spot on in your overview based on my experience. I just completed a pour using this Rapid Mortar mix on 5/25/20 just prior to your video. I poured a 60x30 table top at 1.5" thick for my Big Green Egg with a foam filler for the egg opening. I used only the flow control and worked good but only with the help of my two sons to handle mixing 3.5 bags in a fast process. Used the charcoal color as well, used one 10oz bottle for two bags and it came out a medium grey. Results was good, with some small pin holes that I filled using an unsanded grout. Overall fun to work with and would do it again.

Listen and follow the advice in this video. I am currently pouring counter tops and back splashes with the CTS Rapid Set Cement All Product. It is behaving exactly as is this video. Set control and Sakrete liquid colorant in the water. No issues. Add the FLOW Control to the mix just prior to pouring into the mold(s). Watch the dates on the CTS materials from the stores as CTS states 12 month shelf life. I did have issues with two pours. Lost one due to rapid cure. That was the one I mixed the Flow and Set controls in the water. Use them separately. First pour had issues due to taking too long to mix it. You should have everything absolutely ready prior to the first bit of mix going into the bucket. These products do an excellent job for counter tops. I have been able to de-mold shortly after the mixture stops or significantly slows in taking water and the temperature has returned to ambient. About 3 hours. This product is very exothermic while curing. ~135 to 150F and it steams in 80 degree weather too. I am using two set controls and one flow control along with 3 oz liquid colorant per 55# bag. Pour sizes up to two bags by one person is doable. BE READY to WORK. Counters are 1 1/4" thick by 25 1/2" by 18" to 49" long. Micheal Builds you tube channel also has a few CTS Rapid Set counter top videos. 05/31/2020

I just did about 6 countertops with the rapid set, and the best one that came out had no admix whatsoever. The flow control didnt seem to do anything at all (void in corner, visible gap between pours), and the set control which I was hoping to make this stuff useable, just made the whole countertop develop cracks everywhere. Best one was just very wet mix with nothing added and moving fast

That's strange I have used this product many times with the add mixtures and never encountered anything like that. The set gave us plenty of time to work and the flow made it plenty loose. Still vibrated the form and water cured it for about 2 hours after it lost its sheen. No cracking and minimum air bubbles. Thanks for watching.

Great Video. You mentioned you tried the pre-bagged COUNTERTOP MIX---but with bad results. Did you use the flow and set control with this product? I am pouring one next week and already have the job stocked with 20 bags of countertop mix from Menards and was not happy with my test pours. I mixed per directions with NO additional or additives and it was quite hard to work with. my 12"x 12" samples were drying too fast and losing workability.

I used 2 bags of flow and 2 bags of set in the motar mix. I called quikrete to find out if I could put additional flow in their mix but they said they did not recommend it. Thats why I switched to the motar mix. I am not familiar with countertop mix from Menards, is it quikrete? I have used both mixes. Go to my channel, then videos and quikrete countertop mix review. Let me know if these are the same issues you are having.

That’s a lot of good info. I’m looking to level a threshold with it. Feather it out to approx. 1/2 inch thick. The concrete floor slopes down hill from right to left and I’ll use very little of it but I’m hoping it will hold up for this.

I am wishing to paint a skimmed over patch of porous concrete in 1-2 days time. Maybe not?, Considering products? Period... this is a great cement for repairs.
@detroitdiy
@detroitdiy 3 жыл бұрын
This is a great cement for repairs, wet the surface you are repairing with a spray bottle of water to achieve the best bond. I would wait as long as possible to paint over try to give it at least 4 days.

@@detroitdiy i believe i found the best solution for my needs....a polymer modified cement patch...something like Ardex CD, or la habra poly bond, which can last. Otherwise a slower drying setting body putty will get the area painted, & last awhile for art installments. Still need a moisture block primer.

You can use a white pigment to color it or you can use cementall also made by rapid set that is more white in color. If you go to my channel then videos look for a video called sampling rapidset motar mix and I show the white pigment in that video. Thanks for watching.
