What is deeply disturbing to me is that there is a movement to try and "normalise" paedophilia (calling it "intergenerational relationships"). This man is proof of just how devastating it is to the development of a person's psyche and how difficult it is to break the cycle of abuse. But you've survived it and I wish you peace sister.

Abusers were probably abused themselves but not all people who were abused continue to go on an abuse others. Luckily most victims don't continue these crimes.

As an outsider who doesn’t ultimately know you or fully understand what you’ve been through, I can think of many reasons “why” you should heal and not repeat a pattern of trauma. One reason that sticks out to me is that repeating the pattern of trauma does not change what happened. And nothing can change or alter what happened, but also the trauma does not have to overwhelm all of the positive and beautiful things that can happen for and to you moving forward. Hopefully life and the world can repay you in kind by showing you beauty, peace, happiness, and healing which won’t take away what happened but also won’t be overshadowed by what happened. Hopefully the dark and the light can exist together and by living in the present you can experience them both for what they actually are and for what you can learn from them. I don’t have the answers at the end of the day, but I hope you can experience the kindness of people and see through experience that you’re never truly alone ever in this world. 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤗🤗🤗

I wish that was rare. It’s not. As they get older the shame is so overwhelming they retreat to booze and drugs because who are you gonna share this with? They ended up in my office because they were mandated and yeah, ya gotta work like hell on the relationship. But when they finally trust you, you have done what what it takes to connect with them as human beings, to do to deal with their hostility and shame, what comes out after is a child, broken by Mommy-Dearest. Does that make their crimes OK? OHHELLNO. “I don’t deserve to live” etc. they tell you. Most of mine were high risk suicide and some completed. Men are less likely than women to play out the typical scenario of “leading to a suicide” and more likely to complete due to no prior notice/behavior and the lethality of their methods-hanging, shooting, intentional OD. Help is available and ya can’t just take their drugs away all at once. A bit at a time and replace them with psychotropic meds a little at a time. Will they ever be OK or “safe?” No. Hell No. And they are the first to tell you that. And *yes, they are violent.* Much of the time they aren’t even living in the here and now-the reality you and I live. They are so far removed from and dissociated from the here and now they are in something like a Dream State where their behavior doesn’t seem or feel real. They know they don’t belong and they know they are alone and words fail to explain.... *And nothing excuses, mitigates or makes their behavior less than horrific.*

If you watch through a lot of these interviews, or even interact with abusers in real life, you'll notice all of them do this. A lot of times they even talk about ttheir abuse to others being hard on THEM. It's a lot of "I cant believe I'd do something like that" "I think about it every night" "It really breaks my heart that I hurt someone", almost like their all reading the same script. They'll do anything to flip the situation to make them look like victims

Alyssiah it's so bizarre to me.. I have been raped and my parents were physically (to the point of breaking bones and starvation) and emotionally abusive. As an adult I'd never scream at anyone, I'd never lift a finger against anyone and I'd never disregard another person's consent. People need to understand childhood trauma can have profound effects on the brain...it can be altered forever.

I worked at a prison for many years and know what you mean. Most inmates are conmen in some fashion. A lot of them liked to hype up their charges for cred. Some lying altogether and trying to make themselves tougher that way. Some lie about their past to justify their actions. So when I see this, it is so hard for me to believe any of it. But that's just me and based off of my life experiences and what I saw in the prison. I had the ability to see their pretrial investigations and see whether they were lying or not. A lot were. I would only believe them about their pasts of it could be verified by someone other than them. This is still an interesting interview.

As a recent viewer of Soft White Underbelly interviews, I am getting a sense what the channel is about. It is about hearing and acknowledging humanity, despite how ugly that can get. Some become so ugly that we avert our eyes and ears from them. Despite their appearance and behavior, they deserve a voice. Everyone, regardless of their past (good or bad) or their deeds (good or bad) have a story that is worth hearing. Though my past is nothing resembling James' past, I know what it is like to be hurt; I also know what it is like to hurt others. I would not want to be discarded by society. I'm sure ALL people that are interviewed don't remember everything accurately, and have a measure of self-protection or justification. (Don't we all?)

Isnt it that we all are responsible for one another, and as long as people end up like this man, we are failing in some way. Calling people monsters and arguing about whether or not we should empathise with him is missing the point. He is a human with human capability. If he can turn out like this you may well have done too.

@@catharperfect7036 that’s literally when he did it. I broke up with him, he started stalking me. Convinced me if I just saw him one last time “it would be easier” and he’d leave me alone. In a hotel room that night after raping me he started choking me while I begged him. It was very traumatic.

Let's say even if it was true. Let's humor the idea that everything he said was true. Does being raped as a child mean rape other people when you get older. I was abused, by my mother, then i was s^xually assaulted, and m0lested by 3 different boys (i was 6 the first time). The first one did it for a year, until i finally told someone, another was a few timea on a school bus, and the last was later at 12 in a group home. My girl cousin also got on top of me when i was 9 or 10, and i woke up to her using me as a "Toy" for herself, she was about 10 or 11. The abuse from my mother started at 8 until i was 17. Punched kicked, beaten, chased, hit with a belt up my back, the back of my legs. I had bruises most days, and got called out of school, so my mom wouldnt get caught. This is only a small part of my story. But i didnt become a Grapist
