It’s heavily implied that Jax did have a friendship with Kaufmo. He leaded him his bowling ball, seemed genuinely distraught at first when he realize he abstracted before quickly covering it up and Had a sad look on his face when the funeral was mentioned and skipping on the funeral is probably to keep up his jerkish persona and also avoiding it to avoid distress because he seems to be grieving through ignoring it all together.

I love Gabe's work, especially since he was once the singing voice of Alastor from Hazbin Hotel he knows the passion that fans have for shows. Its clear he wants to make every song the best it can be

If you think about it, even with that attitude that i wouldn't like in someone, he is still kinda... useful. After all, he is kinda de trigger of a lot of things, in fact, the most important things. No one would've known that Koufmo was abstracted until Jax opens his door or in a lot of days later if they ask Caine, they wouldn't made his "funeral" so soon. Pomni wouldn't know NPCs can be awaken or never had this moment with Gummigoo cuz she wouldn't be in the other truck when Jax threw her, and then made the players and NPCs go faster, making the glitch that happened later possible. So, even if he is so chaotic, his actions make a domino effect to good things.

The best part ist that Jax and Pomni have their actual voices from the show. The actual voice actors are very willing to participate in fan songs it seems. There are multiple songs with the original cast so there might be more to it that just crazy headcanon.

It's amazing (pun half-intended) that fan songs (or official songs) like this can change someone's perspective of a character so much to the point where they feel differently about a character or topic afterwards. And even if you decide you still don't really like Jax or his personality/his coping method, this song still offered you a fresh perspective that you can appreciate despite whatever your feelings are on the character itself.

To be fair, while forcing oneself to be cynical is indeed unhealthy in the sense of it being a form of repressing, it's arguably better than wallowing in despair+miniature psychotic breaks (Pomni), persistent negativity (Zooble), disassociating (Kinger), or delusional/unrealistic/false optimism/cheer (Ragatha, and [sort of] Gangle with her can-only-be-happy-with-comedy-mask-intact thing). Out of all of them, Jax is the one closest to getting SOME legitimate enjoyment out of their horrific circumstances. *Sadistic* enjoyment, yes, which would certainly make him unpleasant to be around for the most part, but still REAL enjoyment. Unpleasant and canonically immoral (the creator went on record essentially saying that he's the worst person on the cast) as he may be, his approach is probably the healthiest one, from a psychological standpoint; at least in such outlandishly strange and hopeless circumstances as the cast find themselves in.

What I see in Jax is his asshole attitude, is to more or less to keep himself and others from becoming complacent. To keep everyone remembering that they can't fall into the fantasy of each game and NPC or so deep in your thoughts that you abstract, being the common enemy among a group of humans who is not caine.

It's always worth mentioning that these fan songs are not canon. They're fan songs at the end of the day. Someone elses interpretation of the show. I do love this interpretation of jax though, because also he's canonically the youngest in the circus, it would make sense that he wants to be seen as the guy who has it all together but inside is scared and hurt but doesn't want to reach out. It's a nice interpretation of the character.
