Two songs to consider reacting to, for the high tenors are "When a Man Loves a Woman", where Austin takes the lead, and "End of the Road" where Rob primarily takes the lead. You'll know their names and faces in know time! Tim, their bass, has a five octave range, so be prepared to get shocked by some of the songs he does!

The high tenor you liked in the beginning is Austin Brown. The lead tenor (glasses and beard) is Rob Lundquist. The beatboxer is Adam Rupp or otherwise called "freak of nature" he is one of the founders of the group together with his brother Chris Rupp, baritone (usually wearing a hat). Chris left the group some years ago and was replaced by Adam Chance as baritone but given his range Chance covers bass whenever Tim takes the lead. You already know Tim Foust, he is a legit natural basso profundo (lowest of basses) that rattles chairs, and occasionally breaks sound systems when hitting really low and yes he has an incredible 5 octave range and can easily sing tenor. To easily learn their names look for Working for a Living - their names are stated there and it is a great example for the incredible sense of humor of these guys. Some of their videos are outright hilarious.

Nice reaction. This was the 2nd song I heard when I discovered Home Free last year. It is done in a reggae calypso beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim & Avi. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. When they performed this on the "Sing Off" show Tim goes even lower & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam once again was stellar in his vocal percussion. Just a side note, Tim & Avi are both natural bass singers whereas Geoff is a baritone singer who has learned subharmonic tricks to get low.

You've got it right, Avi, Geoff and Tim all have stunning, hell staggering ranges, four or five octaves. People seem to want to pit them against each other, but the truth seems to be that they are all friends. For the high voices, End Of The Road for Rob taking the lead and When a Man Loves a Woman for Austin, where Austin unleashes (no other word for it) the full power of his voice. Great reaction! Your comparison of three of the most talented basses in music presently is spot on IMO. Little mentioned fact, the three singers are ready to collaborate on each other's renditions. Geoff, for example, arranged HF's version of "Elvira," and Tim appears in VoicePlay's "Just sing." Avi also makes cameo appearances in other HF videos. All three artists are confident in their individual talent to show no ego :)

You like Avi's beautiful voice, listen to his Change on the Rise (he does his own harmonies), Aberdeen, and Otherside. He's a very talented composer and a trained opera baritone. Tim has a really good voice that he can put a real edge in when he wants to. Like Geoff Castellucci, Tim and Avi have 4 to 5 octave ranges. Tim and Geoff are famed for the low notes and you're right, Avi is sooooo smooth you miss just how low he's sung. Tim uses subharmonics the most and as Geoff uses them, vocal fry, and growl (Tim taught him the growl technique). Listen to Geoff Far over the Misty Mountains by Geoff and he hits G1 three times and each time he uses a different technique. The note has the growl that Tim taught him.

Tim did a collaboration with fellow Acapella singer, Peter Hollens. Peter is known for singing songs from Lord Of The Rings movies. So he and Tim did "Misty Mountains" from The Hobbit movie. Tim does the bass and Peter the high notes. Peter edited the video and added over 120 layers of his high voice for a choir effect. It's a masterpiece!

Austin does When a Man Loves a Woman, and Rob Lundquist does End of the Road. Both gorgeous. Tim, Geoff and Avi have all worked together, so they have shared techniques, but each develops his own. Check out one of Home Free’s live concerts with Tim singing Your Man. One good one is from Morrison, IL. Tim sings low and high. Yes, Chris Rupp left the band (one of the founders), to go out on his one, although he still does some arranging, and Adam Chance (known as Chance, since they already had Adam Rupp) came in. Chance did the leads in Folsom Prison Blues.

I'm sorry this is going to be a long one, but there is a lot to know about Home Free that just doesn't pop out of the box. To begin at the beginning, you really should watch season 4 of the TV show, The SingOff, with the judges' comments. In season 4, both Home Free and VoicePlay competed (spoiler alert: Home Free won). If you watch those videos, you will hear Austin say that Tim was singing the lowest in the competition. I read somewhere that Tim (with his 5-octave range) was helping Geoff to hit lower. At the end of the 4th season, all the contestants from season 4, and the winner from season 3 (Pentatonix with Avi Kaplan) were there together. So, they all know each other. There has been only one change in the Home Free line-up "recently." In 2017, baritone Chris Rupp (one of the founders of the group) decided to go his own way, and he picked Adam Chance to replace him. Chance, to differentiate him from Adam Rupp, is a baritone/bass. He has a 4-octave range and, when Tim is singing in the higher registers, Chance takes over the bass line. Adam Rupp, who also has a sweet tenor, is the beatboxer and Freak of Nature. I know there are several videos of him doing his thing, but my favorite one is an oldie but goodie: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8eefrp9useooJs.html The high tenor is Austin Brown (who can lose his Georgia Accent at will). He really shines in When a Man Loves a Woman. And the lead tenor, Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses), is simply amazing across the board. The group chooses the lead for each song by figuring out who does it better. No prima donnas. Nice guys. And they seem to like each other and have fun together, too. They don't do too much in the studio that they can't do in a live show. They keep it pretty real. I see someone below has suggested Bless the Broken Road and Brothers in Arms. They keep turning out my favorites. Actually, every time they put out a new song, it becomes my new favorite. Thank goodness the rabbit hole is deep. Avi has been described to me as the man who sounds like melted dark chocolate. Geoff has a voice like black velvet. And Tim is the Dragon. And I think you're right. Avi and Tim sing, even when they are going low. Geoff sounds to me as if he is saying "See how low I can go!" And it doesn't always fit properly into the musicality of the song.

The HF singer with the smallest range still has almost four octaves in his toolkit, so assigning them to parts is almost futile. Specifically, all four can go above C5 and below C2. Brown's range reaches D6, and Foust can get down to least A0.

♥️♥️♥️ man of constant sorrow would be a good choice to review next. And yes this has Chris Rupp (Adams brother). when he went out on his own, he found his own replacement, Adam Chance. So when you see the tall, baldish guy (usually with a cowboy hat), that's Chris. He's a tenor also and felt the group didn't need three tenors, so he brought in Chance who was a bass in another group. Chance sings baritone and also bass, which let's Tim flex his higher range more. They have a Christmas hymn which has both Chris and Chance in it. I believe it's "What Child is this". Enjoying your reactions!

Yes, to all your questions. 😉 You're asking all the right questions too! Yes, there are several bass vocal techniques, but I'd suggest you check out Geoff's videos on his channel for those answers. Yes, the guy in the cowboy hat, Chris Rupp, is a HF founding father and brother to the only founder left, Adam Rupp, the beatboxer. He left for a solo career in 2016. He was replaced by Adam "Chance." That's the only difference in the lineup since 2016. IMO, Tim's bass is more smooth like velvet. Geoff's is more, in your face and bold. Avi's is pure silk. All 3 have incredible ranges, and all 3 will tell you, "working the higher ranges, helps the lower". It's a science thing. 😀 Great reaction!

I just found your reaction to HF. There's so many times that Tim - super bass - has blown out subwoofers during shows, which Avi has as well, but Tim blows everyone out of the water when he gets low. Ring Of Fire is done in this video by the original 5 HF guys. The beatboxer (Adam) and his brother started the group and Tim, Rob (the beard) and Austin (the high tenor) all joined in later. Adam Chance - he goes by Chance - replaced Chris later. I can't remember when tho. If you like Austin's high notes, check out "How Great Thou Art and you'll hear Adam's pure high tenor tone. I've never heard anyone that has that clear and clear amazement. He doesn't do a lot of singing of course but when he does it blows my mind. I love their cover of Hillbilly Bone by Blake Shelton & Trace Adkins. It won't take to many songs by HF before you officially a Home Fry

Geoff uses much more sub-harmonic technique than any other bass singer. The sub-harmonic technique is actually singing in the higher octave , but the false vocal folds get activated exactly one octave below what is being sung. It's not as hard on the vocal tract as a growl or vocal fry technique. Tim uses the growl technique much more than anyone else. It's more breathy and has less tonal quality than sub-harmonic, but it's the real vocal chords doing the work along with the breathing. Avi uses vocal fry technique more often when he gets lower than his chest voice. That's the hardest on the vocal tract. It has little breath involved. The support doesn't need to be there to force air through the vocal chords.

Notice Avi slides his beanie off and dons a cowboy hat in deference to Tim's superior range. It's all in good fun. ..

Another bass singer with an incredible range that I would highly recommend is Tomi P. He has several amazing a cappella covers here on KZfaq, but his most popular is probably 'Hellfire'. Definitely worth a listen!

@Rob Robbie High & Low blend? You need to hear Home Free's cover of Brothers in Arms! If you listen real close near the end of the song, you'll hear Tim and Chance sing the bass line together, then Chance slides up to the baritone part. WARNING: Heart wrencher of a song!!

Austin Brown (high tenor) has his own YT channel and Tim Foust does as well. Watch Tim's version of "My Maria" for his higher range and "Hillbilly Bone" or "Brothers in Arms" for his lowest melodic showcase you'll find.

the bass guys use different techniques for different bass notes. the chest note, a growl and a vocal fry. Tim foust is outstanding, I believe he has 6 octaves. Home Free sing some much stuff, Try when a man loves a woman for Austin, end of the road for Rob, some girls do for Chance, brothers in arms for Tim . As lead singers. also Take me home country roads is an outstanding cover

Tim is known to have blown speakers at concerts. No added help is needed for the low notes. Do check out Man of Sorrows and End of the Road. New suscriber.

Avi and Tim both have 5 octave ranges, but Avi also has his polyphonic/overtone voice which adds whistle notes to his already 5 octave range. If you haven't, you should listen to some of Avi's performances singing overtones. I like both Tim and Avi but Ave has that thick, rich, dark, weighty, chocolate sound that I prefer.

The fire sounds you are hearing is actually Adam. Tim has a 5 octive range. His lowest note is an octive lower than most men can reach. He can also break sub woofers 👍

Big difference is Geoff tends to use Subharmonics, and Tim uses Vocal Fry... I'd say it due to his tamber. You can hear it even when he's singing mid-range, you can hear that depth like it's trying to bubble out. Geoff has some info on how he signs lower on his channel, but understanding the difference truly, you almost have to do it yourself. Anyone pretty much can do them, it's a matter if your voice is in the range for it to sound decent. :D I've been practicing a bit, can pretty much hit a F1 and belt it out louder than my speaking voice, dead on at will, and move down to a D1. Which is stupid low... but it's there. Fun around Halloween to scare people!

Since you like deep voices, another voice you should NOT miss is that of Russian teen Diana (dee-AH-na) Ankudinova (an-ku-DEE-no-vah), the "Queen of Goosebumps". Her voice is totally unique and she has masterful stage presence living the music. The best intro to her is probably her "Wicked Game" cover. Just make sure you are seated first.
