The creator of JBA is a giant fan of Western music. As such, many of the Stands are named after bands and songs and those names have to be changed when it comes over into America. Sometimes they are hilarious and other times you don't know what they were thinking. It is a series truly worthy of having the word Bizarre in its title. Also definitely check out the openings! They are all bangers and bops, though they can be filled with out of context spoilers

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is originally a manga by the legendary Hirohiko Araki which started publishing in 1986 but the anime has only started airing in 2012 and neither one of the two versions are finished. The western influence you mentioned is a BIG part of the story and has its presence throughout the entire journey. The author himself is obsessed with western pop culture, music, fashion etc. and at a certain point of the story he even started calling basically every fictional power he creates for his characters after popular bands or artists from the west (for example there are characters with powers called "Red Hot Chilli Peppers" or "Vanilla Ice" and MANY more). The story is, as you already realized, really bizarre and kind of all over the place but everything is connected and makes sense so it is not just random, although there is a fun "randomness" to it which makes up a big part of the charm of the series. For me this manga/anime really is special since you will not find anything like it anywhere else, it has its very own character that defines the show and it is just overall a really fun show to watch/read! Over the last few years the anime really exploded in popularity and the author even had his own art exhibition at the Louvre in Paris as well as many collaborations with popular brands such as Gucci which should speak to the quality of the work he has created :D Great reaction Knox and I hope you will also listen to the openings since they are at least as great as the endings if not even better imo!

This has always struck me as a strange way to introduce oneself to something. Openings/Endings exist like curtain risers/closers and are part of the story itself. A compilation seems more made for those who have already seen the show. However, it seems to work surprisingly well at teasing out what is both compelling and truly bizzare about this series. More than any description I could type, this summarizes JOJO's.
@ProQuo360

You should watch the series man. The word “bizarre” hits so many highs throughout each iteration of the Joestar lineage. The crazy part is how the creator reinvents each JoJo to be their own character but still carry on. The intros and outros are just amazing and follow the timelines kind of closely as well. Aside from the first two generations of JoJo’s that is. But yeah everything people are saying the comments is completely on point. The series is an awesome adventure story and builds.

Gotta check out Jojo, Knox. It is over the top in all of the best of ways. All seasons including the one currently being dubbed are all out on Netflix! Time for a marathon! The story of Jojo follows a generational lineage. It switches perspectives between multiple main characters. Like Jonathan Joestar and his grandson Joseph Joestar, Jotaro Kujoh, etc. They all get the nickname "Jojo" because of Jo and Jo in their respective names.

Except for Roundabout and the Oingo/Boingo/Hol Horse songs, the endings are just random songs that the author loved, vaguely related to the theme of the part (like part 3 takes place in Egypt, so the ending is Walk like an Egyptian). What's really cool about music in Jojo is the openings. Every single one of them has become legendary, and would need its own react video imo. There's so much to talk about, in terms of lyrics, delivery, instruments and ofc visuals. (But they are in a sort of mix between japanese and english, so it would be hard to really react to the true lyrics i guess)

The two really weird endings are just when the oingo bonigo brothers are on an episode. The reason it’s like this is the little one has a book that can show the near future, but it’s in the same style as the outro. Also the time period it takes place in changes for each part. The earliest part is late 1800s while the most modern is ~2011

It's actually common for anime to use license music both in and outside of Japan. So western songs have been used by other series.

Im 3 mins in, but Yeah jojos author araki is famous, besides his art style and fashion sense, for all the 20th century music refferences in his work. Of the top of my head:pink floyd, Prince, queen, david bowie, etc.

the series is a bit difficult to explain what its about, but basically it starts with old school drama and magical sunshine karate to an almost indiana jones vibe with aztec vampires, to a buddy road trip movie with psychic punching ghosts to a murder mystery whodunnit in a small town to a mafia movie to a prison break part. at least all the anime so far, differs a bit more going further

Knox you fucking Legend! Jojo's has been my favourite series since before it became popular in the west. It features so many songs from the west. It's been memed so many times with the to be continued memes, among others. The manga came out in the 80s I believe and is the 9th bestselling ongoing manga series of all time. The plot centers around the protagonist named Jojo but each part takes place through different time periods, Part 1 Phantom Blood takes place in the 1800s in Britain and features the protagonist named Johnathan Joestar the first protagonist of the series and Dio Brando, who was taken in by his father because Jojo owes a debt to Dio Brando's dead father, Dio is the antagonist for most of the series Part 2: Battle Tendency takes place in around WW2 and in America (mostly) features the protagonist of Joseph Joestar with the Plot continuing from the first part, Its hard to explain the series without spoiling it Part 3: my personal favourite is StarDust Crusaders and features Jotaro Kujo, the most prominent Joestar in the series. (This part I believe takes place in America in the 80s at first and then transitions to multiple countries In Africa like Egypt Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable is Of Josuke Higashita who is also a Joestar but it's complicated to completely explain without spoiling it and is like a slice of life anime mixed in with the protagonists trying to find a killer in this town called Morioh (somewhere in Japan I believe, and takes place in the 90s Part 5: Golden Wind Features Giorno Giovanna In Italy who wants to become the head of the mobsters should take place in the early 2000s Roundabout is from Part 3, Stardust Crusaders and By the Band Called Y.E.S. the same band that had another huge hit back then called Owner Of A Lonely Heart. Second Song is called Walk Like An Egyptian by the Bangles and also from Part 3 because they have to venture to Egypt in the season so it fits. One of the Endings aka the trippy one is of Oingo and Boingo Part 4 outro being Savage Garden with the song from the 90s called "I want you" The rest of the songs I've forgotten the names of but they're all Legendary. The Artist and creator Hirohiko Araki was inspired by artists from the west as I've mentioned, and derives names off of famous and even lesser known bands and artists. From taking inspiration for a character off of David Bowie's likeness to a stand called Metallica or Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then we have characters named Santana as in Carlos Santana, or Led Zeppeli off the band formed in the 60s of course. Shining Diamond is another stand name derived off of the Pink Floyd song called Shine on You Crazy Diamond

The reason there are so many western things is because the author/mangaka Hirohiko Araki is OBSESSED with western culture and you see that clearly portrayed in JOJO

The anime/ manga takes place over the history of the joestar family. Each protagonist is the next in the family line. Youl notice the one in the cap and long coat is in more than one part though. Surprised you didn't notice in the intro video.

The reason that western music is used for the first few outros is because the creator of the show really likes western music and a lot of the character after season 3 have abilities named after popular musicians from western culture.
